Very complementary article on MLB rumors about the Brewers rotation. Though the writer failed to mention the defense and how key they are to the rotations success.
Hudson has an option available, whereas the other three just can't be sent to AAA. The brewers are being pretty obvious in thier IL of slightly nonperforming players when in a roster crunch. Interesting to see if the league cracks down.
Montas has a $20M mutual option. Zero chance that is agreed to. I forogt to include Civale. He has one more year of arby, probably around $6-7M. I'd assume the Brewers would keep him.
Woodruff, Freddy, Rea, DL Hall, Myers, Misio, Logan Henderson, C-Rod with Gasser possibly later in the season . Lots of question marks there but decent upside with the kids. They will probably sign a middling FA SP as well (maybe Miley returns?).
I don't think the Brewers ever considered cutting Ashby. They usually don't make rash decisions like that, especially one signed through 2027. Maybe the fans did, but not the front office. They would have given him at least another year to recover from his surgery
DL Hall and Hicklen. Bringing up DL allows them to avoid using his last option this year, giving them one more year to option him. Hicklen just makes more sense from roster construction reasons over Black. Another RH OF would be welcome to the roster.
I was recently looking at Fangraphs top minor league power rankings. The 17th top player listed is Jadher Areinamo, one spot ahead of Jackson's younger brother Jaison. I dont know much about these power rankings and how they are calculated but still, this feels like I am severely under-rating Jadher. I had him 26 in the last update, but maybe he should be much higher. Still feels like a utility infielder to me with the upside of a starting average 2b. Doesn't scream top prospect to me, but I'd love to hear thoughts of others.

FYI - KC Hunt is 71 (2nd higher Brewer minor leaguer)
I had recalled that sometime last year that someone made a post to an article that suggested Yoho had a shot at making the majors in 2024. That seemed far fetched to me so it stuck in my head. I finally broke down today and did some searching for that post. Low and behold that poster was me (I must be getting old if I dont even recall making that post).
The article referenced is behind Baseball America paywall. But still, that's quite the prediction and could very well come true.
I'd add a couple of AAers: Russell Smith who has resurrected his career as a reliever. Kaleb Bowman is 27 but has been fantastic in relief. He's repeating AA but was an indy sign and has low miles on his arm.
The Brewers stuck with Chafin last year after he clearly didnt perform. At least Mears has three years of control left. I agree he should only be pitching in mopup roles at this point. The Brewers have eight relievers and will get a ninth in a week. They can hide Mears on the roster if they want to. Hopefully we wont be saying no lead is Mears proof like we did with Chafin. My point is that it would be unlike the Brewers if they cut him after a month.
They gave up two decent pitching prospects for him less than a month ago, so yes, I think it would be a shocking move for the Brewers. I had assumed getting Mears was a longer term thing since his numbers this year were not all that impressive at the time of the trade. It seemed like they thought they could make some tweaks to fix him and that usually takes longer than a month to come to realization.
I think the call on Misio is a lot easier than Yoho. Mis is only 22 and does not need to be added to the 40 man until after the 2025 season. He clearly has more work to do in the minors. He could succeed in the majors now but I think its likelier that his lack of control will hurt him.
Yoho will be 25 in a couple of months and has absolutely dominated the minors. Hard to see what he needs to work on other than keep doing what he is doing to show that he can get out upper level hitters. The likelihood that he performs well at the majors is much better odds than Misio. I don't think it is even close comparing the two.
However, Yoho does not need to be added to the 40 man until after the 2026 season. The Brewers also have a wealth of relievers with more coming off the IL now. Who goes to make room for Yoho? There is a good chance Yoho could be really good, but there is no guarantee and to make room for him will reduce the depth we have. I'd like to see what Yoho does through August. Would I take Yoho over Ross (DFA) or Peguero (Option)? Probably. Enoli Paredes will be available to come the IL beginning in Sept or Rob Z even earlier. Not sure I would DFA one of them (who are out of options) to make room for Yoho.
