  1. Yeah. Looks like i missed a bunch. I'll take Cheeshead's list and double-check those and then add them to the original post. Note: I found that fangraph has a column in their roster resource table for this. Its still a little confusing and you have to dig a bit to determine Rule 5 vs. minor league FA, but its a nice double-check: https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/depth-charts/brewers Thanks for the help.
  2. Thanks for the catch on Vennaro. The UDFA's are easy to miss. I was close to adding Hardy as a long shot (and Vennaro is in the same boat). Their WHIP is too high for me right now, but they have a chance. More likely that they would be added in-season if we have any more need for RP. Note that I don't believe the Brewers will be in any real roster crunch this offseason. They have 3 FA's, a couple of club options, and some non-tender decisions to make. Even with the extra players on the 60 DL and restricted list, they should have no problem adding the players they want to keep. I'm sure most of these guys will get left unprotected. The Brewers historically have been willing to roll the dice with borderline guys and it has not hurt them much.
  3. My early opinions on who we need to protect are: Locks (3): Valerio, Turang, A. Kelly Possibles (3): Lutz, Casteneda, Devanny Long shots (7): Lazar, C. Robinson, Vassalotti, Gray, Bello, Jarvis, Ciprion. I also think there Erceg has a shot of being put on the 40 man roster to avoid minor league free agency. His results have not been great, but you hate to let a guy go who can hit triple digits.
  4. Let's start with the rules. Per COTs contracts: Rule 5 Draft The Rule 5 draft is held each December at the Winter Meetings, and it consists of a Major League portion and a minor league portion. By November 20, each club must set its 40-man roster and submit reserve lists for all major and minor-league levels (See Minor League Rosters). Between November 20 and the Rule 5 draft, a club may add Major League free agents to its 40-man roster but may not add any player from its minor league reserve lists. After 4 or 5 years as a professional, a player must be added to his club’s 40-man roster or exposed to the 29 other clubs in the Rule 5 draft. (Under the new CBA, a club has 5 years to evaluate a player who signs his first pro contract at 18 years old or younger, but only 4 years to decide on a player who signs at age 19.) For purposes of calculating years as a pro, counting begins the day a player signs his first pro contract, not the season he begins play. The following player are eligible for Rule V at the end of this year. If you see any errors, please let me know. Caden Lemons Alec Bettinger Dylan File Robbie Hitt Brent Diaz Tristan Lutz Max Lazar Jevon Ward Justin Bullock Karlos Morales Cam Robinson Victor Castenada Matt Hardy Alex Hall Michele Vassalotti Ernesto Martinez Daniel Castillo Israel Puello Juan Geraldo Carlos Rodriguez Larry Ernesto Jesus Chirinos Noah Zavolas J.T. 5. I will volunteer. I have the Rule 5 list for this offseason already. How do you want them formatted? Should I just post it in this thread?
  6. I would not get your hopes up. He's 30 and has a career OPS of 531 with a OBP of 279. He's basically a slightly better version of Cain this year. I wish him well and you never know. Today was a great start.
  7. I have to give Devanney some props this year. I was really down on him last year, thinking he would just be an organizational soldier. But looking back at his stats, he had a very good start in rookie ball in 2019. Then COVID happened and missed 2020 and then was pushed all the way to AA in 2021. Totally justified that he would struggle. But now he has nearly an 800 OPS playing SS. In years past, he would be considered a top prospect. I think he is not getting enough attention and with all the other talent at Biloxi, I can see how that would happen. If he continues this trend though, he is going to be in my top 20 list.
  8. Do we know where Logan Henderson is?
  9. He seems like an ideal option for long relief. The ground ball specialist would be a nice change of pace from the hard throwers.
  10. I'd say Antoine Kelly is the next big prospect. Castaneda is also pitching well but not sure I would call him a "big" prospect. Both are more likely to be relievers though. With the draft the last few years focusing on hitting, we dont have a lot of SP prospects in the minors.
  11. 1 A.Ashby 2 J. Wiemer 3 Turang 4 S. Frelick 5 E. Small 6 G. Mitchell 7 Antoine Kelly 8 J. Chourio 9 F. Valerio 10 Tyler Black 11 Hedbert Perez 12 J. Quero 13 J.Gray Jr 14 Hendry Mendez 15 F. Bello 26 Stiven Cruz 27 A.Uribe 28 Russell Smith 29 D. Miller 30 W. Clarke
  12. Why would you say it is "proven". I have seen no evidence, video or other physical evidence. Our law says "innocent until proven guilty". That does not say I dont believe he could be guilty. Just that legally, it has not been proven he is guilty. I think its the correct term.
  13. That is pretty severe for unproven allegations. The DA said they did not have enough evidence to convict beyond a reasonable doubt. Seems like 2 year unpaid suspension and 1 year paid suspension for a guy already in his 30s is pretty strict. I'm no fan of Bauer and think he is a jerk but that is quite the precedence.
  14. Excellent writeup and always a great memory of mine. Maybe my favorite just because of how unexpected it was. Family was all gathered around the radio. When Deer hit that HR, we were screaming all through Gantner's walk and most of Sveum's AB until we eventually realized that Sveum hit the game winning HR. Here is a video link:

  16. Is it possible Stearns was working both these trades and just forgot to call this one off? This makes little sense. I'm not too concerned about what we gave up, but would rather have kept Cantrelle and Ramirez. I think Jackson and Navaretto are redundant.
  17. Wow. Seems like the Brewers have been much more aggressive in their assignments in years past. I wonder if that has to do with the the lost 2020 season in an effort to "catch up".
  18. 1 Aaron Ashby 2 Garret Mitchell 3 Brice Turang 4 Sal Frelick 5 Joey Wiemer 6 Ethan Small 7 Hedbert Perez 8 Jefferson Quero 9 Felix Valerio 10 Joe Gray Jr 11 Freddy Zamora 12 Tyler Black 13 Antoine Kelly 14 Eduardo Garcia 15 Mario Feliciano 16 Korry Howell 17 Jackson Chourio 18 Zavier Warren 19 Carlos Rodriguez (OF) 20 Hendry Mendez 21 Dylan File 22 Alex Bettinger 23 Justin Bullock 24 Abner Uribe 25 Russell Smith 26 Corey Ray 27 Ernesto Martinez Jr. 28 Taylor Floyd 29 Darrien Miller 30 Logan Henderson 31 Wes Clarke 32 Tristen Lutz 33 Nick Bennett 34 Hayden Cantrelle 35 Hobie Harris 36 Wes Wilson
  19. How does this work on a scorecard? Does the starting pitcher basically transfer position from SP to DH then?
  20. If he just bunted every at bat, he would outproduce (outslug?) Hiura/JBJ from last year.
  21. Can we add another bat? We already have 13 hitters now. Three starting OF, 4 IF, 2 C, and then McCutchen, Brosseau, Peterson, Taylor.. I'm assuming we will have 13 pitchers most of the season. Sure, I believe to start the season we will have expanded rosters but throughout the season we will be limited to 13. Only Brosseau has an option left so its not like we can just option these guys out. Jace is going to get a lot of ABs being the only LH bat on the bench.
  22. Cutch is no longer good defensively and has not been since 2019. He can play CF as well as Yelich, so I would consider neither as a real option there. Cutch has only played 15 games in CF the last 4 years. I'm glad we are adding bats though this one is past his prime and is really only an option vs. LHs. If he is part of a DH platoon, sure, I'm on board. Just hope he wont be playing against RHs with his sub 700 OPS.
  23. alec bettinger: sent on optional assignment seven times in 2021 hoby milner: sent on optional assignment six times in 2021 pablo reyes: sent on optional assignment six times in 2021 there may have been more (including guys with other organizations in 2021 who were sent on optional assignment by their clubs), but i think i got them all. understandably, i was only paying attention to the total number of days optioned and whether that player was burning his option in 2021. Thanks. Its more than I thought but I still dont think this impacts the Brewer's ability to shuttle players back and forth. Depending on how they construct their 40 man roster, as long as they have enough of these guys, they can shuttle each of them up to 5 times. That's a lot. Assuming all these pitchers stay on the 40 man, they have these pitchers with options next year: Ashby, Bettinger, File, Gustave, Meijia, Milner, A.Perdomo, M.Sanchez, and Topa. Plus there are 4 open spots left yet.
  24. Is the new rule that a player can be optioned 5 times in a season that impactful? I'm not sure if any Brewers were optioned that frequently. I tried to find online and only found one article talking about the Dodgers who were real abusers of this. Only 3 of their players were optioned more than 5 times. Seems like most teams could work around this rule by just calling up a different player. Most times, a player is just called up for mopup role so there are many players that can do that. The unintended consequence of this is players who have been optioned five times will be unlikely to be recalled to the majors again that season. Teams wont want to be stuck with that player as they are essentially out of options. I assume the team would have to DFA, waive, etc to cremove them after that. If anybody has a list of how many times Brewers players were optioned in a season, it would be interesting to see.
