  1. Pirates got raided. One player taken in the ML portion and 10! in the minor league phase. Ouch.
  2. I'm sure I am overthinking the rules, but let's say its a crazy year and the worst 9 teams are all ineligible for the lottery. So does that mean the 10-12 teams now get 16.5% chance of getting the top spot in the lottery (and so on)? And then once the first 6 picks are selected, picks 7-9 would go to the remaining eligible teams and the original worst 1-9 are slotted 10-18? If so, It would be fun to watch.
  3. It really is stunning how bad Bellinger has been the two years. He was stunning good from 2017-2019 though. I guess I see why the $17.5M but that is very likely to be an overpay for 1 year.
  4. You make a good point that I agree this gets confused. Though even if not on the OD roster, the player can only miss 2 weeks of the season. I believe the injured list counts as being on the roster. The top 100 list is an unnecessary complication. Baseball America wrote an article earlier this year showing that 75& of top 3 ROY we on the top 100 lists. It just makes it so difficult who is eligible and who is not. .So when do the preseason top 100 lists come out? Do we have to wait until Spring training to before we know who will be eligible for this? I assume they don't make any tweaks or corrections to these lists before the start of the season (that would be a mess). So as for Brewers, I am assuming Frelick, Chuorio, and Weimer will be on 2 of 3 lists. Will Turang miss it then? Both Ruiz and Mitchell will also likely miss out.
  5. Wong also had $5M of last year's $7M salary deferred until 2023/2024. Not sure who is on the hook for that but that could be some potential cost savings if Seattle is picking that up. I think the Brewers did well here considering most of us expected they were just going to non-tender Wong. Based on that low bar, it would be hard to see the Brewers picking up a free agent of Winker's value for the $8M they saved. That does not include getting Toro as well. Trying to see a comp for Winker out of the existing free agents and the best I could find is Gallo. Could we pickup Gallo as a rebound candidate for a $8M 1year deal? Best prediction I could find is from the Athletic: 1yr, $13M
  6. I see this as a huge boom or bust trade, but still low risk. Winker was not good last year but was fantastic in Cincinnati. If he could rebound, he could be the best cleanup hitter we have had since Prince (at least vs RHs). If he repeats last year, its only for a 1 year deal and he was at least an average hitter last year (based on OPS+) He's probably just a platoon bat and should only play DH. I'd say he replaces Singleton on the roster (though he was unlikely to make it anyways). I compare Toro to Cam Devanney. Same age, both high OBP guys, but different path to the majors. Cam was still in college when Toro first made it to the majors. Toro had better numbers at a younger age than Cam. I'd give the edge defensively to Cam but Toro with a better potential bat. Still, Toro is a pretty good defensive 3b from what I can tell. Not exactly the blockbuster deal we are all waiting for, but this could be really meaningful if Winker rebounds. Winker in Am Fam field will be interesting to watch. This is the type of low risk, high reward type move the Brewers need to make. I think they still target a free agent 3b yet. And this trade opens up a spot for that. Someone like Longoria or Turner on a short term deal or maybe a hope for a rebound out of Anderson. Toro would likely block Turang in that case as the utility IF; At least in the beginning of the season.
  7. Good catch. I was going off of when they signed a contract, but the players you mentioned did not play in their first year.
  8. These 10 players will be minor league free agents after the 2023 season. I would expect aggressive placements of many of these and they will be rapidly promoted to see what they can do. Free agency can be avoided if the Brewers put them on the 40 man roster. I'm excited to see what Lutz, Ward and Rodriguez will do next year as there will be a lot of OF competition. I expect Lutz to be at AAA and Ward and Rodriguez to start in AA (along with Chourio). Robbie Hitt Brent Diaz Tristan Lutz Max Lazar Jevon Ward Justin Bullock Karlos Morales Matt Hardy Michele Vassalotti Ernesto Martinez
  9. Ruiz had 86 SB / 16 CS last year (84%). Its also reasonable to think those SB% will increase next year. The Brewers are well primed to take advantage of the new rule changes.
  10. I'd like Edwin Rios as a low risk pickup. He can definitely hit, just needs to stay healthy. He's not a great 3b but he can play the position and would be a nice power platoon bat with Urias. If they trade Wong, I like them to pick up Brian Anderson. He would be a great bounce back candidate with more HR potential playing at Am Fam.
  11. The Singleton selection is odd. He is out of options, so if he does not make the OD roster he will have to be outrighted. He has been outrighted before so he can refuse a minor league assignment and become a free agent. It just seems like he does not fit well on a team with Tellez, Yelich, and Hiura already on the roster as they all are better against RHs and play overlapping positions. IF he was a masher against LH pitchers he will fit perfectly as a platoon mate at 1b/LF/DH. Maybe this is an indication of some big shakeup on the roster. Just seems like this is a wasted roster spot.

  13. I agree that all of the names would be nice adds, but I think the Brewers will be closer to the dumpster in their free agent diving. Someone in the mold of Brett Anderson. A 1yr $5M contract in a prove it type year. A Ryan Yarbrough just got DFAd and would not cost much, but I think they could do better than that.

  15. Singleton provides some insurance in case the Brewers find a taker for Tellez in order to reduce payroll. Other than that I think he is a AAAA type player. Who knows, maybe they strike gold with him, but I think its highly unlikely. I'm fairly confident Devanney will sneak through the draft but will be bummed if he gets picked. I see him as a solid Utility player as a floor with an average starting 3B at peak. That has a lot of value.

  17. Reminton Batista? I pride myself on having a good grasp of the minor leagues, but huh? Who's this?
  18. Seems like the classic case of Sell high, buy low. They obviously think Box has had his best days. We will see how next year goes. relievers are fickle so you never know what you are going to get. I know nothing about Tyson other than looking at his stats. He had low walk totals most of his career until they skyrocketed since AAA in 2019. Maybe they see something they can fix. Only costs us a 40 man spot to see what he can do, and they have those available.
  19. I got to remember to use folksy talk when delivering bad news. It just makes it sound better. Ya know, I'm sorry to have to let you go, but you should find a job in a couple two tree months....
  20. 1 Sal Frelick 2 Jackson Chourio 3 Joey Wiemer 4 Brice Turang 5 Garrett Mitchell 6 Jeferson Quero 7 Estuary Ruiz 8 Robert Gasser 9 Tyler Black 10 Ethan Small 11 Jacob Misiorowski 12 Eduardo Garcia 13 Eric Brown 14 Hendry Mendez 15 Felix Valerio 16 Mario Feliciano 17 Stiven Cruz 18 Carlos Rodriguez (P) 19 Hedbert Perez 20 Alexander Cornielle 21 Victor Castaneda 22 Tristan Lutz 23 Cam Robinson 24 Freddy Zamora 25 Brandon Knarr 26 Abner Uribe 27 Cam Devanney 28 Lucas Erceg 29 Darrien Miller 30 Peter Strzelecki
  21. Mitchell's OPS is up to nearly 700. With strong defense and good speed, he is having a pretty good callup. Looking for more pop and less K's but he is making a strong case to start next year on the opening day roster. Hope Frelick, Ruiz, Wiemer all make it hard who to choose.
  22. I can finally now start watching the Brewers again without being disappointed. I no longer have to worry about those pesky high expectations that I had earlier in the year. Thanks Brewers!
  23. Are we doing another of these for September? I'm ok either way. I think end of the minor league season would be fine as well.
  24. I agree. I don't ever recall this many promotions in-season. I think its due to a number of factors: The lost 2020 season has resulted in less time evaluation time for the Brewers. They only get 4-5 years before Rule 5 eligible and 6 years before minor league free agency. Need to push these players to determine if they are worth adding to the 40 man roster. Even though they lost playing time in 2020, they physically matured a full year in 2020. Maybe the players worked out in the weight room and put on more muscle mass. So skipping a level or promoting quickly still makes sense. The talent level in the system is really good. These guys are young and getting pushed hard, but most are still succeeding. I think this org is better than the evaluators are giving them credit.
