  1. I'm not concerned about spring, but in the back of my mind I wonder what sort of year he will have. I think it's a very real possibility that he has a down year this year from the amount of media and fan scrutiny on him. And not to spark up the "sample" debate again, but if you believe that he has been using banned substances in the past to increase his ability, he might be off of those substances now to avoid future positive tests, which could affect his performance. I don't personally believe this, but it's certainly a point that I've heard some people bring up. We saw how emotional Braun got during his first press conference. If a guy like Tiger Woods can have his play affected as much as it has been by off field occurrences, surely Ryan Braun could be susceptible.
  2. This is how I feel as well. If the other 2 tests came back with the same insanely elevated T/E ratios as Braun's and they underwent the same mishandling, then Braun could essentially clear a large amount of doubt in the public's mind by releasing the details. Maybe he is afraid of the other 2 players looking bad if the results come out, but taking into account the circumstances of the mishandling and the cloud of doubt already hanging over the testing policy I would have to believe that having the other results come out would only help Braun's cause.
  3. Wow BA is calling the LB State - New Mexico game. That came as a shock to me. Good for him.
  4. I found that article too, but it said he was 27. He was a senior in '03 so I'd think he's closer to 30, which would make me assume that article is a couple years old. I searched for like 15 minutes but there's no easy way to find their current coaching staff. It's like people don't care that much about Montana basketball or something?! http://www.montanagrizzlies.com/coaches/?c=23&b=1122&m=36 All the Grizzlies information is on that site. Like I said previously, I'm currently attending Montana and this is definitely a football school. Bringing up the tournament around campus today got me some "honey badger" comments and general jokes about how the Grizzlies are going all the way this year. It was a pretty big deal for us to win the Big Sky championship at home, and anything beyond that is frosting. EDIT: http://missoulian.com/college/griz/speltz-anything-is-possible-just-ask-freddie/article_6e75f1be-6b54-11e1-8f71-001871e3ce6c.html Here's a blurb about Freddie Owens and "the big shot". I'd summarize it, but I can't read it since I have reached my 20 articles per month quota with the Missoulian. Dumb.
  5. I'm going to school at the University of Montana right now, so go Griz? I agree wholly that this years bracket is going to resemble last years and maybe even be worse. The highest seeds just aren't dominant enough. As far as the "experts" go, they might as well pick the top seeds because their brackets are getting busted either way. You have a greater chance of picking correctly if you pick chalk and besides that you have the masses on your side when you look a fool.
  6. For those who own an Xbox like me and hate the 2k Sports MLB games, this is the last year of their exclusivity contract, meaning that next year we will hopefully get some competition from either Sony or EA.
  7. Alex Gonzalez is the most minimal of upgrades from Yuni. He's 5 years older and strikes out twice as much. He ranked 300th in the league in K/BB ratio last year (out of 306). Obviously his defense is an upgrade, but even hitting 8th in the lineup this year I'm willing to bet we'll be reading a few Yuni comparisons in the IGT in regards to his "offense".
  8. Parra with 2 scoreless innings and 3 Ks is nice to see.
  9. I got a lot of good natured heckling in Arlington after Coco Cordero blew a 3 run lead with 2 outs in the 9th, but I never make much of it. It's not as if you personally have anything to do with Braun's debacle, besides being a fan of the team he plays for. The only way any encounter with an opposing fan would get out of hand is if you talk back.
  10. I have Premium MLB.TV and I'm able to watch the game right now through my Apple TV. It should give you the same access. Have you given it a try? I have not tried it. I read right after I bought it "Coming soon! Watch LIVE and archived baseball games with MLB.TV Premium on your Xbox 360. Spring Training games available mid-March." On top of that I'm now finding out that I need Xbox Live Gold in order to use it, which means it's going to cost me another $35. I'm getting robbed here.
  11. I bought the "premium" MLB.tv this year because I guess you can play it over your Xbox, but I guess that doesn't include spring training games. Dumb. EDIT: I totally agree that not having the pitch tracker there is great. It's distracting and inconsistent.
  12. As much as I love that picture, I can't take credit for it. I stole it from a friend of a friend on facebook. The caption was something like "More than just best friends?"
  13. Can you make me a shirt that says "Official Urine Sample Collector" with a picture of a cup of urine?
  14. http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/420187_10100714771399340_15920837_54448211_380847505_n.jpg
  15. I'm guessing he is going to apologize for not the delivering the samples in a timely fashion. He might suggest that he didn't know that the FedEx locations were open and that he has no good excuse for not knowing this. He will also probably say that he in no way tampered with the sample and stored them using a method in compliance with WADA guidelines.
  16. What if he's been juicing since college and just this one time he forgot to take his epitestosterone, leading to elevated T/E levels. That's probably unlikely, but I'm playing devil's advocate here.
  17. For me to believe Ryan Braun, I wanted more than a sample shipped out late. I wanted a testing flaw or evidence that the sample was spiked or an underlying medical condition or proof of unintentional steroid use. Even before this story was leaked I had strong suspicions that a large number of players were still using and had been using in the past. After reading "Ball Four", Canseco's book and "Game of Shadows", I have a very different view on the innocence of the game. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, I'm just confirming your belief that the public is going to believe what they want and no one is exempt.
  18. Since it's not completely clear if the sample was tampered with, I would hope that their identity remains hidden.
  19. OK. If we say that the sample was tampered with by either of those two couriers, what sort of motive would they have to spike the sample? I realize Braun's party probably didn't have to prove that they had a motive, but to me it doesn't make sense that either of these people would have much to gain by doing this sort of thing.
  20. Does anyone know if the sample was sealed the entire time after the sample was taken? Could it have been accessed by the person taking to it to FedEx? Is there anyway that guy would have been able to identify the sample as Braun's sample?
  21. Wow. I don't know what Olney said or wrote, but those tweets make it sounds like he really hated on Ryan Braun. At least he's responding to the outcry.
  22. Wow! I am so happy for Braun and the Brewers. I can't wait to hear all the details. It sounds like Braun got off on a technicality, but if the people handling the sample weren't following the correct procedure then that's their own fault. This was a long appeal process and I think regardless of the outcome we have to respect the decision. Way to go Braun, let's get this season started!
  23. Sorry, pebadger that this is from a few pages back, but I think you've made too many presumptions about what "the facts" in this case are anymore. I don't agree with numbers 2. and 3. on your list because I don't think either of those things have been confirmed by MLB or Braun's people. Braun has never said that it wasn't a steroid and he never said that it wasn't a masking agent. In fact, Braun's people only indirectly confirmed that he tested positive for something. All 70 pages of this thread are pure speculation all based on 2nd or 3rd party rumors. I'm not saying it's not fun to speculate, but you can't use speculation as a concrete defense in an argument (friendly discussion) with someone. Hopefully that dosen't come off hyperbolic. Sorry for the double post.
  24. CBA or not, MLB would look really bad if Braun was acquitted and they stayed silent. It would potentially give Braun the option to slander MLB and it's drug testing poilicy without response or consequence from MLB. Or likely just as damaging to MLB drug testing reputation he could stay completely silent. It just wouldn't make sense for MLB not to comment on the situation that is already very public.
  25. What other facts? Unless I missed a link, we still have no idea what Braun did or did not take. The only info I'm using is original ESPN article that stated that Braun's T/E ratio was elevated and that he tested positive for exogenous testosterone, and even that has not been confirmed by MLB or Braun. You are trying to throw out test results for a test that you haven't even seen.
