  1. Maybe it wasn't possible for the Nats to sign Werth for any less then this absurd contract. That's all I can come up with. Does anyone outside of the Nats front office think this is a smart move? It will be really interesting to see how the rest of the FA contracts fall into place after this.
  2. Shaun Marcum was interviewed on MLB on XM Inside Pitch this morning. It was a pretty standard "new team" interview. Here are the highlights. -Marcum was shocked, thinking that the Blue Jays wanted him on board long term. Almost sounded like they were considering an extension. -He researched the Brewers online last night. He knows schedule and rotation. Mentioned that he looks forward to pitching with Wolf, Gallardo and Narveson. -Excited to "compete" with Brewers. -He had to explain to his 4 year old son what a "Brewer" was and then went online to show him pictures of Bernie's slide which got him excited. -Hasn't talked to any players yet, but will call Dave Bush to get the scoop. -Excited about devout fan base. -Looks forward to facing 8,9 hitters in the NL Central, but knows there will be challenges with the likes of Pujols, Berkman and Holliday.
  3. I disagree. I think the best way to deal with it is to be the better person. If he's a jerk then other people probably know it too and you're not doing yourself any favors by starting a confrontation at a new place of business, especially since you're probably trying to make new friends there. See if you can get past it and if not just ignore the guy as best you can. I know I'm a smart guy, but like you it takes me a while to learn a new computer system (done it twice this year with a new job and internship), and I've gotten ragged on a couple times about it. Ask questions when you have them and make fun of yourself if it's really bad. You have a lot more life experience than this guy. EDIT: I should stipulate that this depends on the work environment also. I worked in the oilfield for a while where everything is a pissing contest and anything short of a snappy comeback makes you look a fool, but I assume you are talking about a "real" job.
  4. This is true. Besides Cliff Lee, Marcum is probably better than any of the FA out there this year anyway and he is cheap (dollar wise). To put some perspective on it Jorge De La Rosa just signed for 3 years/$33million.
  5. If Melvin can lock up Weeks for a few more years this deal is going to look a lot better. We all know how hard it is to lure in FA pitching to Milwaukee. Also, we didn't give up any of our top pitching prospects which is a big plus.
  6. This is great news! It finally feels like Yo is getting some support in the rotation. Marcum's got an injury past and he's under contract for only 2 more years, so I think Lawrie is a bit much to give up. I think Gamel or Braddock is a little more reasonable.
  7. "I swear officer, I wasn't texting. I was just downloading pornography."
  8. Is there an explanation as to how the voting works? Looking at the 4 different rounds makes my head hurt.
  9. I'm a huge fan of radio and Ron was always one of my favorite radio voices. I love passion in the voice of an announcer and Ron was certainly genuinely passionate. As a Brewer fan I could grin a little bit hearing Ron's "Oh no!" when the Cubs were playing the Brewers. I didn't get to see him play, but his numbers always seemed Hall worthy to me.
  10. Best episode in a long time for me. The toilet paper separator was great.
  11. I guess he's close to a 3 year $33 million dollar deal according to Fox. I wish him well and I'm glad the Brewers passed on him. He's only posted more than 130 innings once (2009) and has a career WHIP of 1.523. His best years may be yet to come, but he'll be 30 when the season starts.
  12. I won't endorse Milwaukee's Best, but I can't pretend it doesn't exist either. There are times when I can't shell out $9 for a six pack and enjoy falling back on something a little less refined. I'm enjoying a Bayern Doppelbock Lager right now. Very dark, heavy and intense.
  13. I feel dumb, I always assumed George Lucas directed the Star Wars movies. Well, Kershner did a good job.
  14. The link is broken. This makes a lot of sense for Vazquez. Take an incentive laden 1 year deal and go back to the NL East where he had so much success in 2009. He has a home in Miami too, so it was probably an easy choice for both sides. I would have liked to see the Brewers get him on the cheap, but like you say, it probably wasn't even considered by Vazquez.
  15. I learned the word "sycophant" around the age 15 from The Velvet Undergrounds Murder Mystery. I also learned the words laconic and didactic from the Velvet Underground. Now that I think about it, that band taught me a lot during my awkward teenage years.
  16. I live outside of Wisconsin and it is literally impossible to buy the new logo anywhere in my state. I have tried. I have to order my hats online or get them when I travel to Wisconsin. I'm a fan of the new logo, but I think it would be a big success if they reintroduced the old logo with the new uniforms and used the new colors. I'd buy that hat.
  17. That's a huge bummer. You are going to have to start planning your sentences with no n's or b's.
  18. I like Conan, but I think all of the promos made this sort of anti-climactic for me. He's a cutting edge guy with some of the best writers around, yet his show uses the exact same format as Leno, Letterman, Kimmel, Fallon, Lopez, and Ferguson (minus the band). With this fresh start I thought maybe he would try something a little bit different. I'll still tune in when I'm bored.
  19. All of these quotes and stories go way beyond drumming up good press for the new manager. I'm genuinely excited to see what he brings to the table. And how can you not like "Rags" for a nickname.
  20. I've decided that 2019 is my unlucky number. (and yes Linda Cardellini is a babe)
  21. As a Brewer fan, I'm all for increasing their chances of making the playoffs, but as GAME stated you can't force 162 games to come down to a one game playoff, 5 game playoffs are already short enough. I wish Selig would talk more about expanding instant replay instead.
  22. Maybe they're trying to fool people into thinking it's football to boost the ratings.
  23. If they replay this in your area, it's about 1 hour and 50 minutes into the show. Melvin came out posed like the bobblehead with his cell phone to his ear and Jon Stewart signed his neck in marker. Insanely random, but I understand that's sort of Kimmel's thing. It had me laughing.
  24. This hasn't aired in my timezone yet. Any idea of how far into the 2 1/2 hour program this takes place. I would love to see it. This seems completely out of left field.
  25. Gutsy move by Glaus not going for the force out at home with 1 out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th. An aggressive slide into second and the game is over.
