  1. And what if Zack is out for a longer period of time? Back to a 5 man rotation?
  2. The most frustrating part for me is Roenicke knowing that Greinke was hurt and not looking into it further. Greinke was probably embarrassed about the injury and tried to blow it off as something minor, but it should have been the team's responsibility to limit Greinke's pitching until it was confirmed exactly what the injury was. Those 2 weeks where this went unreported are 2 weeks Greinke should have been on the mend.
  3. I remember reading a quote from Roenicke saying that he would keep Kameron Loe in the bullpen. Of course at the time of the question he was addressing who the 6th starter would be, not who would take Greinke's place, so things could have changed.
  4. I just sold my reserved DA2 Signature Edition copy for the Xbox 360 on eBay for $97. I decided to wait a month and pick up a cheaper copy. I can't resist making a small profit.
  5. I enjoyed Bob's stories of the Pioneer League. Good Stuff.
  6. I reserved DA2 back in December, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea for my life to pick it up on release date. I might wait until spring break.
  7. Can people stop using this as a negative about McGehee? Who cares what kind of prospect he was? Judge him on his offensive, abilities, defensive abilities, character, and overall future potential, not on what the Cubs thought of him a few years ago. Mike Piazza wasn't exactly a can't miss prospect either (and no, I'm not saying McGehee is a future HOF'er). All I'm saying is that you want the greatest possible return when you sign a player to a contract. If you want to judge McGehee on his offensive and defensive abilities, I don't see how you can narrow your window of judgment down to 1 1/2 years of major league experience. I'm not even criticizing McGehee for what he did in the minor leagues, because his numbers weren't half bad, but I'm trying to get a full view statistically of who he is as a player.
  8. If the Brewers aren't going to offer a contract past his arbitration years, they should just stick to year to year deals. I think there is a greater chance of McGehee declining in production than turning into a superstud 3rd baseman. He's had the knee surgery and he wasn't exactly a can't miss prospect. Best case scenario for McGehee is that he puts up a few more seasons like his last two and the Brewers have to shell out a little bit extra in arbitration dollars. And I love Casey, I'm just trying to be realistic.
  9. Just to edit twri7's list, here are the spring training games that will be televised in some form and be available for viewing through mlb.com (all times are CT): Mar. 7 (2:05pm) @ Reds - FSN-HD, MLBN (tape delay) Mar. 15 (3:05pm) @ Indians - MLBN (tape delay) Mar. 16 (9:05pm) @ Mariners - FSN-HD, (In progress) Mar. 19 (3:05pm) @ Dodgers - FSN-HD, MLBN (tape delay) Mar. 28 (3:05pm) @ Royals - WMLW 41
  10. Using the IP address gets interesting. While working on location I used to get internet through a satellite from a Canadian company in Alberta. So Blue Jays games would be blacked out while I was working in New Mexico. And even at home in Montana, the Mariners are blacked out, even when previously the local cable provider was playing Rockies games on TV. The whole system is screwed up.
  11. Some of you talk like it's a big conspiracy against Gamel. That's exactly the sort of thing that someone who is in on the conspiracy would say.
  12. We're a week into spring training and we get the first significant injury. When I saw this on ESPN it just served as a reminder to how quickly things can change for a team. Wainwright is really the ace of this staff with Carpenter being 36 this year.
  13. The Fighter has a great performance from Christian Bale which should lock up an Oscar for him. 127 Hours was a fun movie for me to watch if only because I have been hiking solo through Canyonlands, Zion, Escalante several times. It hit close to home. I made a point to watch all of the nominees this year and I can't say I was overly impressed with any of them. I'll rank them quickly below from my favorite to least: Social Network - First by default. I wonder how engaging this movie will be 20 years from now. Also, I thought the ending was disappointing. Black Swan - Natalie Portman is great. Enjoyed the metamorphosis. 127 Hours - This movie is very accurate in how the event happened. You know how it ends but constantly wonder how you would have handled things. True Grit - The Coens make it work even in a remake, but I didn't care for the casting of Damon. Toy Story 3 - I'm still a much bigger fan of the first Toy Story, but this completes a really impressive trilogy The Fighter - Again, Christian Bale was great. I felt like it could have been edited down a bit, but it's a good story. Inception - Maybe it was hyped up too much, but besides the effects and the concept, I didn't fall in love with this film. The King's Speech - Geoffrey Rush is great, along with the direction and cinematography. I couldn't get emotionally invested in the story though. Winter's Bone - I saw this one a while ago, but the scene with the army recruiter still sticks in my head. Great setting and characters. Mediocre story. The Kids Are Alright - This movie could have gone in a lot of interesting directions, but the story took the easy way out and left everyone smiling in the end.
  14. I agree, I think that poll result is partly because people are not happy with Prince as a person for various reasons rather than people thinking Braun will have a bigger year. Most projections have Braun and Fielder having equally productive season, if not giving a slight edge to Fielder.
  15. Wow, that's a fantastic interview. It really puts Axford in a new light for me.
  16. It sounds like Roenicke already knows what he wants to do with the lineup. Here's what he's planning: 1 Rickie Weeks 2-5 Some combination of Corey Hart, Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder and Casey McGehee 6 Yuni Betancourt 7 Carlos Gomez 8 Jon Lucroy 9 Pitcher
  17. Just curious, why did you buy a 3D TV if you are never going to use the 3D? Doesn't the 3D feature make the TV a lot more expensive?
  18. The most amazing stat from that article? Narveson, Wolf and Gallardo had a combined OBP of .308 last year. That's more than either Lucroy, Betancourt or Gomez had last year.
  19. There are a few ways that bacteria escape the threat of antibiotics. The most common is that the doctor has prescribed a medication based on an empirical diagnosis and his assumption about what he is treating is wrong. In this case the antibiotic may be killing an entirely different spectrum of bacteria then the one causing the illness. Your body houses a huge amount of "good" flora that protects against various biological threats to the body. If these bugs are eliminated with the antibiotic, then the bacteria which you were trying to kill in the first place will explode in population and make you even sicker. Even if the doctor knows the bacteria which he is treating, bacteria do have the ability to "evolve" or become resistant through various mutations. Think natural selection in a very small and rapidly breeding population. If the antibiotic is the bullet proof vest and the bacteria are nerf darts, then yes, one of thousands of bacteria assumes the ability to shoot bullets, reproduces and overcomes the antibiotic. All classes of antibiotics have varying bacteriostatic/bacteriocidal properties and just about all of them have been overcome to some extent through bacterial evolution. It's the reason why it's best not to get a prescription for antibiotics unless you are susceptible or tests have conclusively shown what you are infected with. I'm not a doctor and quite frankly I don't know the exact process that doctors take in diagnosing a patient, but I get the sense that a lot of them just throw a Z-pak at anyone who comes in with the sniffles. It seems to me to be a much better idea to treat the symptoms with some OTC medications and let the patient take time to recover naturally. At least with normally healthy adults.
  20. "Boom, sadness. That's the one."
  21. This. I really enjoyed Oscar getting asphyxiated by Scarp and Toby's head exploding. Good stuff.
  22. This is great. It's going to make the Brewers look really smart when Rickie puts up another big season.
  23. Yeah, I almost voted other too. You should include "offensive" in the thread title. I was looking for Gallardo. I voted Prince. Walk year and it's his "every other year" year.
