  1. Serious? you are blaming Gross' AB for Bush allowing runs in the 6th? Nope, just stating that Gross was not patient at all, when 95% of MLB players would have taken at least one or two pitches.
  2. I have no idea what ISO OBP is, and I don't really care. One of his one-pitch outs came right after Bush scored on the error. Maybe, if Gabe had taken a few pitches, and let Bush get some rest, Bush wouldn't have given back the lead in the 6th.
  3. I have played and watched enough baseball in my life to trust my opinion more than any faulty defensive metrics that are available. And, yes, with one game you can tell that a CF is not very good. Bad jumps and bad angles are big-time no-no's for a major league center fielder. It wasn't a one-time event last night, it happened on a number of plays, and that only confirmed what I believed from watching the games on tv.
  4. Wow, you really made me laugh there. Gross always seemed like a below average defender to me. Then, I went to the game last night. He is a butcher in CF. He had horrible jumps on the ball, and took bad angles. There were 3 balls that above average CF's make, and the only one he came remotely close on was Dunn's HR. Edit: I forgot to mention Gross's great day at the plate. 0-3 while swinging at the first pitch in each at-bat. I thought Estrada was back on the team last night.
  5. By the time Cameron comes back, it will be almost 3 weeks since Gwynn tweaked his hammy. He would be 100% by then, and they wouldn't waste him on the DL.
  6. On the radio, the press conference sounds like a eulogy. So gloomy, and no excitement.
  7. Is it just me, or did he make it sound like Bush was the odd man out of the rotation when Yo comes back?
  8. Bogut is more of a star than Williams. Williams just gets more publicity right now because they are winning.
  9. He's actually already 25. My mistake, but the premise remains the same.
  10. Tejada with run scoring triple. Astros lead the Cubs 3-2 top of 8. Edit: Make it 4-2 on a sac fly.
  11. I would drink heavily too if I had to watch that team for 162 games.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Sampson with a 3 hit shutout against the Cubs through 6. Only 56 pitches so far. 2-0 Astros.
  13. If Gross is anywhere above average, then Gwynn is a gold glover. I don't care about defensive metrics, just watch them play. I'm not sure Gross will have a better OBP. He has had one season significantly higher than Gwynn's career OBP in the majors...and Gwynn is only 23. Gwynn will improve, Gross' numbers have gotten worse over the last year or two.
  14. Why is everyone calling today Opening Day? It is not Opening Day. If it were the Brewers would be 0-0, but they are 2-1. It is the Home Opener people! Get it right!
  15. Not sure why this would be in Blue. OPS is absolutely, without question the "thing" that makes a hitter good. Being able to get on base, and what those produce is pretty much the very core of offense. I didn't say make the "hitter" good. I said the "player". So many people on here argue that Gross should start over Gwynn because he will have a higher OPS. Well, OPS isn't everything. Defense, baserunning, and instincts are all values that can't be judged by numbers. The Brewers have plenty of OPS friendly players, and that didn't get them to the playoffs last year. Adding guys like Cameron and Kendall will help with the un-measurables mentioned. Gwynn also brings those, but is obviously the 4th outfielder once Cameron returns.
  16. Last night, I heard that if you purchased the NHL package (Time Warner only), that you automatically get the baseball package. They are on the same channels on Time Warner, and they don't turn them off when the hockey season ends. I can't confirm this, since I would never buy a hockey package.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. Doesn't Gwynn know that that type of play doesn't help his OPS, and that's the main thing that makes a player good.
  18. If its a playoff game, I would agree. But, its only the 3rd game of the season, and the bullpen can only throw so many innings on the year.
  19. 90-72 isn't a bad record, but not nearly as nice as 162-0 would have been.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Cubs didn't want it to be an error, because then they knew Braun would hit a home run this game.
  21. Goes to show how ERA can be a bit misleading as well. Two earned runs for Bush when Braun's should have been an error, and a bad hop single.
  22. Cubs would be wise to walk Braun here. Hall shouldn't scare them at all.
  23. Will Gwynn be leading off next inning with a righty on the mound?
  24. Sacrifice bunts to not count against OBP. Sacrifice fly balls do. H+BB+HBP/AB+BB+HBP+SF is the formula. Learn something new every day. I always thought that Sac bunts did count as a PA in the calculation, but you are correct.
  25. There is a reason many stat-heads don't like the runs scored and RBI's stats. Because they are team dependent. His job, at the top of the order, was to get on base. Most days, Fielder or Braun will knock him in. About taking the bat out of Fielder's hands, that was a good thing also. Instead of one guy on base with a good hitter up, the Brewers got two guys on base with an equally good hitter up. As a result, both Weeks and Fielder scored without the need for a homerun.
