  1. I fail to see how hitting the pitcher 8th will bet the big bats extra AB's. It is the same 9 hitters, so unless there is some magical increase in OBP for one of them with a new spot in the lineup, the number of AB's will not change for anyone, except Kendall. He may have less, because the 8 hitter may make the last out in the game.
  2. I believe that was Dillon that slipped in SF playing RF.
  3. A strategy that has worked well for me is to spend a lot of money on 3 or 4 studs (Pujols, Cabrera, Webb, etc). The rest of the team will be filled in with cheaper players (i.e. potential freezes). This works very well if two things are present - 1) You know every player on every team in the NL. By knowing every player, it is easier to find bargains in the later rounds; 2) Keep a very close, active eye on the waiver wire. There are always a few players who come up out of nowhere.
  4. I have seen Yost bashed a number of times in IGT's and probably in this thread too (I'm too lazy to look through the whole thing) about not bringing Cordero in, on the road, in tie ball games. Just wanted to point out that, in a winner take all game last night, the Padres held off on using Hoffman until they took the lead in the 13th inning. Posters on here would have been begging for Cordero to be in there in the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th innings if the Brewers were in that situation.
  5. Well said Bucky Rules. I can't count the number of times this year, when people were all upset about a certain pinch hitter not being used. Some of the times, that guy had already pinch hit earlier in the game, and many other times, it came out after the game that a player was sick, or injured, and wasn't available. The manager, and all of his coaches, have a lot more information at their fingertips than we, the educated fans have. As die-hard fans, we tend to live and die by every pitch, and every decision, of every game. We tend to lose sight of the big picture. I think Yost has done an excellent job of developing the young talent, and keeping the team on an even keel (especially after some of those brutal losses). If the preseason prediction thread is still around, we should bring that back to see what people predicted versus where the team is at now. I remember a lot of people predicting below .500 this year. The team has exceeded a lot of expectations going into the year.
  6. I think the only way you can answer this is to compare to other teams. What is a teams record when they are leading when the starters leave the game, and also what is the teams record when the team is losing when the starter leaves the game? If a team normally wins 80% of the time when leading and 20% when trailing, and the Brewers are at 75% and 25%, then there may be little effect. I don't know if the actual stats are available anywhere, but that would be the only concrete evidence to prove it either way.
  7. It's not the number of innings that is the problem. It's the increase in innings from one year to the next. They try and limit it to about a 25-30 inning increase per year. Who cares how many innings Blyleven threw as a 20 year old. That was a different era. He may have thrown 250 innings the year before which would still meet the "limit".
  8. So you're saying it was a bad move to try and bunt the tieing and go-ahead runs into scoring position, with a guy hitting under .210, to get to your 3 best hitters. I can't imagine what this thread would look like if Weeks had GIDP, K'd, or hit an infield pop-up. There would be a lot of screaming as to why Yost didn't bunt. To me, it was a no-brainer that you bunt there. The execution just wasn't there.
  9. Exactly. The shirt would be much better if it was crumpled up on the floor of my bedroom!http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif I hope you also meant to add "with Alyssa in bed with me", otherwise why would you want just an ordinary shirt crumpled on your floor? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Well, of course! That is a given. I'd actually throw the shirt out the window, and if I missed, I wouldn't notice because I'd be too busy "doing" other things.
  10. Exactly. The shirt would be much better if it was crumpled up on the floor of my bedroom!http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif
  11. I'm guessing Dillon will start at 1B tonight. With Prince getting hit in the arm last night, and a lefty on the mound, it would be a good time to give him a night off.
  12. It will be a one-day tournament, unless we get 13 or more teams. As of Saturday, there were 10 teams signed up.
  13. Who's the injury delay for? I would assume Thompson, by the looks of those last few pitches.
  14. Are they trying to hit Braun? Gameday shows a pitch behind him, and one right at him.
  15. Which county league is your team in? We will not allow an under .500 team from the Power League, or a couple other leagues. We are trying to keep this as even as possible. To get in, you can call Gary at 262-483-3408.
  16. As of now, it's scheduled for the 4th and 5th. We have 10 teams so far. I'll confirm this afternoon if it is still two days. To get in, you can call Gary at 262-483-3408. ASA bat list. Mikens may also be banned. All home runs are outs.
  17. For Thatcher, Inman and Garrison. That seems like a steep price for a reliever.
  18. Brewers got Scott Linebrink from San Diego. They just confirmed on 1250. Edit: It looks like they paid a steep price - Inman, Garrison, and Thatcher.
  19. Our softball tournament team is running a .500 and under softball tournament. It's only for teams that have a losing record in their leagues. Would the bfnet.com team be interested in getting in? Here is the info I do have, and will be able to answer any additional questions you may have. August 4 and 5 (probably will be just the 4th though) $125 entry fee (I have to double check, but am pretty sure this is right. Played at Schowalter Park in Saukville (less than 5 minutes off of 43) No home runs allowed (300 foot fences) Plenty of good food and cold beer!!!
  20. This arguement is rather silly. The people saying that Yost screwed up by bringing in Balfour instead of Cordero are using a strawman arguement. You're arguing that Cordero should have pitched the 12th because you use your best pitcher to ensure the next inning. If that is the case, then you should be arguing that Cordero should have pitched the 9th, not the 12th. Hindsight is 20-20.
  21. It could be the worst of both worlds today. Bonds hits 2 homers and the Cubs still win. Ugh!
  22. Hey, I guess we found a way that Gross can hit. Just have him bat with a 7 run lead. The most useless homer ever.
  23. Wise with a bat in the on-deck circle? Maybe Parra is the one that was traded.
  24. Anyone else rather see Turnbow or Sheets up at the plate next time, instead of Gross. He's just painful to watch. At least with the pitchers, you get some comedic value. Hopefully, when Spurling comes back, they send Gross down.
  25. No Hardy in the lineup today. Haven't seen the order yet, but just heard that JJ was getting the day off.
