  1. I thought he said on the year, but wasn't paying too close attention.
  2. So there are people here who question him giving Sheets the ball every fifth day? Actually, yes there are. Some want Sheets to pitch every 5th day even if there is a day off, thereby pushing every other starter back a day (or skipping a starter). Personally, I think it's a horse apiece. You want to keep Sheets healthy, but you want him to pitch as much as possible.
  3. If you are upset about Tavarez pitching the 12th, then you should be upset that he pitched the 11th, since you don't think he was the best option.
  4. I'll take Claudio Vargas in that category.
  5. Counsell does have a higher career OBP than Hart. This year, he is only slightly lower than Hart. I would rather have Hart in the 5 hole where he'll have more guys on base.
  6. I remember the same things being said about McClung not so long ago.
  7. Salomon Torres is a better pitcher than Mota, it doesn't work that way. And Mota has had a better year and career than Villanueva.
  8. Differences of opinion are expected. However, this place turns into a lynch mob whenever Yost takes an OPTION that doesn't work out. The move he made today, was the same one he made last week. However, since the names were Mota/Torres, instead of Villanueva/Mota, and the move worked, this place is extremely quiet. Once something goes wrong, this place goes crazy, as everyone comes out of the woodwork to bash Yost. I thought this site was supposed to be better than the espn boards, et al. The bandwagon bashing just gets out of control.
  9. What? Nobody complaining about taking a guy out who struck out the side on 10 pitches, and bringing in a guy who pitched 2 innings the night before. Oh, that's right. It worked this time. If it had not worked, people would have been all over Yost on here.
  10. Don't you have to be in the minors for 5 years before you can be taken in the Rule V draft? If so, most of the AA/A guys wouldn't need to be protected.
  11. They are 4-0 in games he has started at home. He only has 2 official victories.
  12. Is a 1-2-3 DP too much to ask for? Edit: Or a walkoff HBP.
  13. Did he also pitch in a day game following a night game after he went multiple innings the night before in New York too? (Well, I made it over 100 posts before my first Ned doesn't know how to manage a bullpen vent, hopefully it will be another 100+ before he makes me do that again) Did he also have to get 4 outs every inning he pitched in NY?
  14. But strikeouts are the same as any other out.
  15. Down 2-1 in bottom of 7, Cubs let Zambrano hit with 1st and 2nd and two outs. He was already at 99 pitches. Ned would be roasted for making such a move, even though Z has had a good year at the plate. He popped up to first on the first pitch he saw. Then, proceeded to walk the leadoff guy in the 8th on 4 pitches.
  16. Nice to see that the Rockies are 0-10 in Jimenez' last 10 starts. Let's see him continue on the Capuano-like streak.
  17. What don't they like about him? I think he has some good potential, 6-6 guy, fastball in the upper 90's. More than likely he will be a relief guy but I do not think he is anyone to be upset about. I think Cubs fans just like to complain. I think it's mainly the uniformed nsbb fans that are upset. They can't believe that a relief pitcher would be the BPA.
  18. Cubs fans are not happy about their draft pick of Cashner.
  19. Kendall is now the only player without a hit this game.
  20. Parra may have bought himself another inning with that quick inning.
  21. Nope, all Branyan's fault for hitting one out of the park.
  22. Some kid named LaPorta just hit one too.
  23. I see what you are saying about going forward Russ, but the logic is a little flawed. You project to 94 wins based on winning at the pace of an 88 win team over their last 104 games. However, they have 10 more road games than home games remaining. The 88 win projection was based off of equal home/road games. So, the 94 wins is probably 2 or 3 wins overstated.
  24. Wouldn't the same arguments be true for walks? Other runners don't advance, and they are not as valuable as a single. This is why I feel some people overvalue players like Gabe Gross. His OBP is okay because of his BB numbers, but his average still stinks.
  25. I totally agree, and I'm a big Gwynn fan too.
