  1. What I like about Brantley is not only does he carry a stellar walk rate, he is able to maintain a stellar strikeout rate as well. That makes me think if he's not walking 80-100 times in the big leagues, he'll be hitting .315. And still very young, especially for his level, so some level of power could definitely be reached yet.
  2. Maybe he's not underrated, but Brantley does not get talked about enough around here. The Brantley wave is nearing the beach and about to break - look out, its a big one. Everything you hoped TGJ should have been, but even better than that. I don't see a September call-up though. AFL maybe, AAA next year, and then probably a Corey Hart '06 like for Michael in 2010 with our crowded OF.
  3. (We could probably update this thread title...)
  4. Like Russ said, he is a lot like baseball's Brett Favre. Hey, I know a compliment when I see one!
  5. Not a fan, though I'm thrilled to see us play at Fenway. It should be in the WS though, that's all. The AL and NL are two separate leagues, who's respective champions match up to see who's the best club in the "world," hence the name. Interleague wrecks that, and wrecks the character of the individual leagues.
  6. I don't think SF would trade both, almost regardless of the offer. It would just be moving their weaknesses around.
  7. I think Manny Ramirez is in some sense baseball's hispanic Brett Favre. He does things you laugh at while shaking your head, but always get the job done.
  8. Ya, a guy on my softball team continued to play softball up until his surgery date. Not sure that's recommended, but it can be done.
  9. 1. The All Milwaukee (Brewers/Braves) roster set would be awesome. 2. Also, you mentioned something about that All Time Brewers vs. All Time Yankees post 1970 9 game series sim a while back, anything further with that? 2.) Whoops. The problem was the normalized database wasn't working. I started to upload the guys based on the raw numbers, but forgot to go back to it. I probably won't have time until next week, but I'll still do that for you if you want it.
  10. I was going to post it, but I didn't think it was all that funny.
  11. tbbrewers, do you recall what happened on this swing? http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm205/tbbrewers/th_DSC00881-1.jpg I'm far, far from an expert, and I'd like to hear others take, but this doesn't look like a balanced/good follow through to me.
  12. EDIT: Having trouble formatting for some reason. Anyone else have problems with tags? Rickie Weeks, Bunting Statistics: BU SH BUH BUH% 2005 4 2 1 .500 2006 8 2 3 .500 2007 4 3 0 .000 TOTAL 16 7 4 .444 BU=Bunts; SH=Sacrifices; BUH=Bunt Hits; BUH%=BUH/(BU-SH) According to this article - LINK - the league average BUH% has been around .400 the last few seasons, and the best players can be successful as much as 50-60% of the time. I don't know if looking at Rickie's 9 bunt for hit attempts tells us anything due to its small sample, but it does suggest it wouldn't hurt him to try laying down a few more if the situation is right. And to expand on the worth of a bunt single, keep in mind its just that - a single. Even though it may be successful 40% of the time, its value could be less than swinging away with a batting average of .250 and a respectable walk rate and slugging percentage. If you consider a hypothetical player who only bunts for hits and is successful 40% of the time, he would hold a .800 OPS. Last season, Weeks had an .807 OPS.
  13. What I'm seeing is Rickie is swing at less outside the zone than last season (18.18% v 19.05%) and more inside the zone (38.82% v 37.97%). Very small, but improvement over last season, nonetheless. He's even making more contact no matter where the pitch is thrown, when he does decide to swing. These are all good signs, but his awful line drive percentage says there's something wrong with his swing right now, down to 12.0% from his career average of 18.4%, which kills his BABIP (.200), and in turn kills his batting average. I'm not sure what he needs to do with his swing, but I'm convinced the ability for line drive contact doesn't disappear for good. It'll be back, and in the meantime I think his approach has been as much as we could expect.
  14. $2,000? Bah, $200 tops, if I was producer, especially with that "royal" hint.
  15. The other news from this article, at least to me, is they are also looking into a longterm deal for Corey Hart.
  16. Booing at former players for no reason is stupid. The only argument for booing that makes sense to me is if you feel like as fans, you are the congress and the manager is the president. So you boo decisions, NOT the players. Support the players.
  17. 1. Why do I keep having people hit my cars? Karma? Next time you're at the grocery store and have a lot of things, let the guy behind you who's only buying bread and a magazine slip ahead of you. That or get one of those orange triangles on the back of your car.
  18. Twins fans are still loving it. I would be.
  19. Why on Earth would a Brewer fan EVER boo Gagne? If you believe, as I do, that he's one of the keys to getting YOUR TEAM to the playoffs, what good does booing do? It does no good. Frankly, it hurts your chances. So why do fans do that? One has to wonder how it affected Turnbow... Please talk about this! Milwaukee fans have been booing way to much lately. Turnbow publicly made a comment about booing effecting him, I want to say last season.
  20. Best character in either show: http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:FXEek0aaZMwotM:http://rfleamarket.com/images/Evil_Monkey_301.gif
  21. Depending on how many stat categories you need, it might take a little bit of time, but: If you just copy and paste the leader board from baseballreference into notebook, save as a .txt file, then you can open that file in excel as "delimited" data. Thats an easy way to get the data in excel in separate cells.
  22. I find it unbelievable that this guy thinks it would be a negative to know more about the farm system.
  23. The baseball episode is a classic. Helped me learn the state capitals. Awesome songs! (Video heavy so I'll shrink it) [+]
  24. I get it so much I wasn't aware it was obscure. NARF!
