  1. i really think you are joking, if you not that was the dumbest thing i have ever read and we are all more dumb for reading it. Braun is better then all of them and under control for a long time. I will excuse you this time, please dont let it happen again. Tell us what you really think. Eternal Pessimist, welcome to the forum, but I'm going to have to agree with jwill535. (But in a more respectful tone.) Braun is not only at least as valuable as those other guys right now, but he's also under contract for 6 more years after this season, and playing for league minimum. He's also a main reason why our offense isn't at a complete standstill right now. We are in a pennant race and he might just be our team MVP so far.
  2. I agree. OBP is exactly what the Brewers need more of, and just average power in LF would be fine. Only guy that really comes to mind would be Brian Giles. He's under contract next season for $9 mil, and then has a $9 mil option with a $3 mil buyout for '09. I doubt the Pads would trade him though.
  3. My guess is, Bush stays, it's Cappy if the offer is good enough, or it's Vargas if the player coming back is a short-term answer. Looks like I'm "fourthing" this.
  4. I was considering trying to start something like this myself. I was planning on making it a contract league with a rookie draft and auction free agency, but that can get pretty complicated. I'd definately be interested in this league. I do have a concern with your silent auction draft though. A person who has computer access all day could just wait until 3:55 before posting their bid and get in over the top, while someone without access would be at a disadvantage. What about something where say 5 guys at each position are put on the auction block, and aren't sold until 24 hours after the last bid. Everyone has a chance to get back in on the bidding, and nobody can grab him just before the time limit. After one player is purchased, another goes on sale. Just a thought.
  5. If Gwynn for Otsuka was nearly a done deal, what would you propose for Benoit? I would have to imagine that Benoit's value is a little lower. They might still demand Gwynn, which is fine by me, but maybe we could squeeze a prospect out of them as well.
  6. Would be a very nice pickup. I don't think he's got enough of a track record that we'd be able to ink him as our '08 closer, but he'd be an option and a nice boost for this season. Depends on the price.
  7. Hate to say it, but Davy Nelson is just as bad.
  8. If I did my calculations correctly, he also has the highest BABIP for any position player on the Brewers at .380. I believe this means that he's been "lucky" and that his number will regress either later this season or next season. He's only got about 3 or 4 "extra" hits over his expected BABIP. He's been hitting a lot of line drives, which fall in for hits very often.
  9. Hope not, I've got tickets and then I won't be able to go.
  10. Interesting comparison. I for one feel that the impact of steriods was not as great as some make it to be, that steriod use was so widespread during the last decade everyone was to a certain extend still on an even playing field, and that substance abuse was present during past eras as well. While I don't know if I'll be celebrating Bond's record, I no longer am rooting against him. I'll take it as a very historical moment that needs to be taken in its proper context, just like all records.
  11. Cubs.com Poll: What would you do if you caught a Bonds historic HR at Wrigley? Keep the ball - 8623 votes, 62% Throw it back - 5393 votes, 38% Now that would be a sight to see. Some dumb Cubs fan catch #756 and throw it back.
  12. Gary Paulsen? edited spelling
  13. I think steriod use has been very widespread throughout the last decade or so. Therefore, while Bonds has been a cheater, so have most of his peers. In 20 years, I think we will look back on the record and say, "Yeah, but he did it on steriods during the steriod era." This record he's about to set simply has to be considered in its proper context, just like any other record. What's better, Ruth hitting 60 homers in 154 games, or Maris hitting 61 in 162? Is a .350 career batting average in the 20's equal to a .350 career batting average in the 80's? Yet these numbers go on the same list, side by side. I'm not sure I look at Bond's HR record any differently. It simply has to be put into context, looking at just the number "756" doesn't tell the whole story. People feel very strongly about it now because its happening now, but I'll bet when we look back on it in the future, it'll be more or less just another record, nearly the same as any other.
  14. Arroyo about equals Capuano, so I wouldn't add more to him. Vargas+prospect maybe. Arroyo's good, but would he be better than Gallardo/Villanueva?
  15. THROW IT BACK, THROW IT BACK! Naw, I'd auction it. I'll be at both weekend games, too bad he didn't get a little closer, and too bad I'm not sitting in the OF...
  16. Villanueva, Gallardo, or even Parra are likely to be better than any guy we can trade for, and they're free. That said, it would weaken the bullpen. My remedy is getting Otsuka (most likely), Gagne, Chad Cordero, Wheeler, Dotel, Kline, ect... But, unless we are getting a nice deal or someone really stellar like Otsuka or Cordero, we should probably hold off to see how well Balfour and Parra prefrom out of the pen. Our entire solution may be in house, we should give it a week or two.
  17. Still in college, and so far I have attended St. Norbert in De Pere, MATC in Madison, and now I've been accepted to transfer to UW-Madison next spring. I was also enrolled at UWGB for a few weeks during the summer. I'm 20. They call me the "decider". EDIT: Next, I'll pick my major!
  18. Say: The great Bob Uecker once said, "The easiest way to catch a knuckleball is to wait until it stops rolling." And I think that's true with marriage as well. Then go on to say how so. Does that help?
  19. Kendall is having a rough year at the plate, but his secondary stats show he's not really playing much worse than he usually does. He'll probably come on strong in the second half. Nice buy for the Cubs, though I don't know anything about the minor leaguer.
  20. All I want to know is where to sign up for Fantasy Congress. That just sounds like a blast! (The half-kidding color there.)
  21. Good luck getting the players to agree to it. A-Rod would lose out on $10+ mil a year.
  22. Milwaukee Gets: Bedard bullpen arm Baltimore Gets: Carlos V. Inman A. Escobar Not even close, IMO. Gallardo+Hart maybe. They would probably ask for Braun. Bedard is going nowhere. We can improve the rotation the most using guys from within.
  23. Lofton would be ideal if Hall was out longer, but it looks like we caught a break there and he should be back shortly. I wouldn't mind Lofton, but I agree there is no real need for him. We'd have 6 OFers again. He'd be a great CF backup though.
  24. We encountered a major power-tripping usher last year who insisted those stools/tables were only for people with bleacher tickets. When we asked why people with bleacher tickets would go all the way to the top behind the bleachers, he didn't have an answer and threatened to have us thrown out. Jeez, he sounds like Brewers19. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. Is that guy really 58? I've never met a 58 year old like that before...
