  1. Like when he uses Brian Shouse against right-handed hitters? Or bats Estrada 5th? Or plays CF defensive-whiz Tony Gwynn Jr. in RF? Or played Jenkins against LHP all year last year before outright benching him and then playing him against LHP again? How about when he batted Kevin Mench in the cleanup spot? Or when he kept trotting Turnbow into save situations last year when Turnbow couldn't even throw a strike? Or when he managed the 3 headed 3B monster to a top 3B production in the league? Or when he stuck with Jenkins in '05 and he completely tore it up in the 2nd half? Or when he stuck with Hardy through that horrible first 3 months? Or the other 95% of the games when his bullpen moves were the right ones and we won the game?
  2. Iluvlamp is right (all three times). Yost's abysmal bullpen management is his biggest fault. He's made mistakes, as all managers do. I get just as mad as the next guy when he does, and we are all yelling at the TV before we blow the lead, but that happens to all teams. Does he get no credit for the 24-10 start? He just gets the blame for the last few weeks, because his lineups aren't good? What did Yost stop doing as soon as we went to New York?
  3. Yost ain't going anywhere. Players win games, managers lose them, at least in the eyes of most fans. Its Yost's fault we got no-hit tonight, but he had nothing to do with our 22 hit thrust the other day. In fact, he had little to do with both.
  4. Mike Maroth is a solid pitcher in the AL. If I had to slot him, I'd say a #4. You'd think Vargas would have similar trade value though.
  5. I want a guy in the lineup that will be able to sac fly that runner on 3rd with 1 out. Dunn would strike out more than he would fly out. That's what you are going to base your player evaluation on? How well he can hit sac flys? Nevermind the many extra times he'd get on base or the multiple home runs he'd add.
  6. Hall, Gallardo, and Jenkins for Crawford. No way. Gallardo alone is worth as much or more.
  7. Elite sluggers in the prime of their careers are going to cost a good prospect or two. 3 months of an elite slugger doesn't equal 6 years of two good prospects each. I don't see us making a big move at the deadline for this very reason. Maybe a reliever.
  8. I like it. Four quality players for three spots, they'll all play about 75% of the time. I still wouldn't give up a top prospect for a rental, doesn't matter who it is, but if something like Mench + Jackson would get him, maybe we add one more prospect and get one of their in return, I'd be totally on board.
  9. Why would Tampa do that though? I wouldn't mind adding Wigginton, but I don't see Tampa trading him for Graffy as the centerpiece.
  10. I'm getting more and more exciting about the pick each hour. As the surpise wears off, and I read more and more, I can't believe nobody was really asking for him before yesterday. I absolutely love the fact that he's already close to the bigs and is going to have quite a high probability of having a major league career.
  11. I nearly went to UWM for the proximity to the Brewers alone, but decided most of the season is in the summer anyway. I ruled out Minnesota because of the Vikings.
  12. Lucroy sounds excellent, very pleased with what I'm reading about him. I am really happy about our first two picks. What amazing insight and analysis I bring to the draft forum.
  13. Lineup position affects that number too. I've seen studies suggest OBP is close to 2.5 times as important as SLG out of the leadoff spot.
  14. I actually like the pick. LOVE the OBP, and I really like the fact that he could very well be ready sometime next season.
  15. Colby, what if anything have you heard about possibility of Moustakas as a catcher - in terms of ability and/or his interest/willingness? If Brewers draft him, do you think they'd have plans to try that route? If so, sign me up for sure. I'd be fine with Parker or Porcello though. Aumont...maybe.
  16. I wonder who he was trying to call.
  17. Out, for sure.
  18. Great story! Its a very cool experience to really help an animal.
  19. Late to the party, but yay! Hart batting leadoff. I can't wait until I stop hearing it is a foregone conclusion that Gwynn is our future leadoff hitter because of those 30 AB's.
  20. He gets a lot of press because he is a power hitting catcher. Its about as justified as all the hype that Corey Hart gets on this site. What does this mean?
  21. I play guitar, and I think it both helps and hurts when trying to play GH. It really messed me up when I played the GH's More Than A Feeling. Sometimes I add notes that aren't in the game too. But it helps, you already have that finger dexterity, and I was two-way strumming from the start.
  22. thanks, so is there formulas for those, or does a certain site calculate them? I don't use VORP much, but FIP is a great stat: FIP = [13*HR + 3*BB - 2*K] / IP + ~3.2 Not the easiest to calculate, so its much easier to look it up at a place like Fangraphs.com. The 3.2 is a league factor that makes the average FIP equal to the average ERA, so it changes slightly every year. FIP takes out the BABIP and LOB% that can inflate or deflate a pitchers ERA. A pitcher really has not control over those things, therefore he depends on luck. Bush's ERA is 6.13, but his FIP is just 4.17.
  23. Oh.... The Air Up There Love me some Kevin Bacon.
