  1. quintin berry matt garza taylor jungmann (it doesn't make sense, especially with jimmy nelson expected to miss a chunk of time, but the brewers seemingly didn't want jungmann's services during his final option year, and i doubt they'll want him in 2018) domingo santana (trade to an american league team while his value is at an all-time high . . . it'll be tough to see him go, but it will open the door to give better defenders lewis brinson, keon broxton and brett phillips more playing time while bolstering the farm) andrew susac (assuming jacob nottingham is added to the 40-man for catching depth) carlos torres stephen vogt (ditto with jacob nottingham) neil walker
  2. from this tweet, we know that jorge lopez (on the 40-man) returned to puerto rico after the season ended. being a u.s. territory, lopez would've been free to return to the continental u.s. and not have to worry about visa issues (but obviously, travel logistics challenges as many in puerto rico are unfortunately facing right now). this still doesn't answer my question . . . one has to think that mlb teams take steps to insure that they have reserve players readily available for activation from the second week of september on.
  3. well, for the first time in a really, really long time, the brewers did not use the 60-day disabled list. for the most part, brewers players did not suffer serious injuries in 2017. that certainly had a hand in their success this year.
  4. the season's been on the line, and as of late, it's been brett phillips' name in the starting lineup in center.
  5. that's been acknowledged.
  6. guerra will be out of options in 2018. he'd have to clear waivers to be outrighted to aaa.
  7. entering play today, the brewers bullpen has pitched 532 innings, most of any contending team in the national league and third most overall. as discussed elsewhere, the club definitely needs its starters to go deep in this series against the cubs.
  8. aaron wilkerson took the streak to 30.0 innings before surrendering a walk. the team surrendered three walks last night--not great, but not horrible. the brewers still lead the league for fewest free passes allowed in september. let's hope that trend continues.
  9. agreed. hopefully, they've been keeping to a workout regimen since their seasons ended.
  10. 28.0 consecutive innings for brewers pitchers without issuing a walk. however, the team has issued 514 free passes, sixth worst in the league and tenth worst in the majors. april: 95 free passes may: 90 june: 102 july: 83 august: 108 september thus far: 36 (fewest in the league, second only to cleveland in the majors) definitely like the trend thus far. undoubtedly, the removal of matt garza (3.56 bb/9) and junior guerra (5.65 bb/9) from the rotation has helped keep the walks down.
  11. wilkerson is official for tomorrow.
  12. only one off day left (monday after the cubs series). time will tell if aaron wilkerson earns another start against the reds next week. tonight: chase anderson on five days' rest wednesday: aaron wilkerson (threw 1.0 inning on friday) thursday vs. cubs: zach davies on four days' rest friday: brandon woodruff on four days' rest saturday: brent suter on four days' rest sunday: chase anderson on four days' rest monday: off
  13. corey knebel keeps setting a new franchise record. 117 strikeouts now as a reliever in only 69.0 innings. the only thing that would taint that record is for craig counsell to start knebel on one of the johnny wholestaff days. (of course, that won't happen.)
  14. when was the last time the brewers had a player named phillip that went by phillip?
  15. jungmann had a pretty good camp this year (14 strikeouts in 14.2 innings, 2.45 era, 1.30 whip) and made the club. he was optioned to make room for waiver claim nick franklin, and the timing just was never right to recall him again. i think jungmann is a viable bullpen option in 2018.
  16. guerra is out of options next year, so if he's kept at aaa, he'd have to clear waivers to be outrighted off the 40-man roster.
  17. obviously, the brewers feel confident enough moving forward with the versatility of hernan perez, eric sogard, jonathan villar and neil walker to remove yadiel rivera from the 40-man. the brewers were fortunate enough to have healthy infielders on their roster pretty much the entire season.
  18. this contradicts what is referenced on mlb.com above, but by placing jimmy nelson on the 10-day disabled list instead of the 60-day disabled list, aaron wilkerson (who was in the brewers' organization 31 august, but not on the 40-man) is eligible for postseason play. that mlb.com article isn't doing armchair general managers any favors.
  19. in order for aaron wilkerson to be eligible for postseason play, jimmy nelson needed to be placed on the 10-day disabled list, not the 60-day disabled list. thus, the brewers chose to dfa another player instead of placing nelson on the 60-day disabled list. the 2017 brewers may indeed avoid using the 60-day disabled list.
  20. yadiel rivera will enter 2018 spring training with no minor league options remaining.
  21. yadiel rivera designated for assignment. he will enter 2018 spring training with no minor league options. aaron wilkerson has his contract selected, and will enter 2018 spring training with three minor league options. the 40-man roster is full.
  22. aaron wilkerson on his way up. a move will needed on the full 40-man roster (a possibility being placing jimmy nelson on the 60-day disabled list).
  23. currently, the brewers have six minor leaguers on the 40-man roster that aren't part of the expanded september roster. and obviously, there is a slew of minor league players whose seasons have ended (not counting those getting ready for the arizona fall league). obviously, any player could be recalled or have his contract selected for the rest of the regular season and/or the postseason (if postseason eligible), so what are these minor leaguers up to during this potential call-up time? i'm sure they're working out in case they get a call, but i'm more curious if there's anything in their contracts (major league and minor league) that stipulates no vacations, no leaving the country (or in the case of foreign players, extending their visa through 1 october or even beyond), etc. or is there nothing explicit in their contracts and minor leaguers just play it smart and postpone their weddings, vacations, etc. until after they know that their organization has been eliminated from postseason play?
  24. unusual in that the brewers have yet to place nelson on the 60-day disabled list to open up a roster spot for an internal promotion. perhaps the club is being patient hoping for a trade or waiver claim?
  25. confirmed tonight: brent suter confirmed wednesday: chase anderson on three days' rest (first time in his career pitching on short rest) thursday: off day friday: zach davies on four days' rest? saturday: brandon woodruff on four days' rest? sunday: brent suter on four days' rest? monday: chase anderson on four days' rest?
