  1. yes. in 2015, he'd have one option remaining.
  2. a-rod has 'fessed up.
  3. i would not be surprised at all if the brewers decide to option davis for most of 2015 and play parra in left in his place. is that unfair to davis? maybe. it would only be for one season, until parra reaches free agency. davis has two minor league options remaining.
  4. daniel ray herrera (claimed from the reds) was one of the two players acquired by the mets after giving up francisco rodriguez.
  5. brewers exercise their half of the option. ramirez has three days to accept or decline.
  6. i stand corrected. lhp zach duke, lhp tom gorzelanny, 1b lyle overbay, 1b/3b mark reynolds and rhp francisco rodriguez did file for free agency yesterday. that puts the roster at 35. rickie weeks is expected to file for free agency, which puts the roster at 34. jim henderson and tyler thornburg still have to be added back to the 40-man.
  7. with the claim of catcher juan centeno from the mets, the 40-man roster is full. (rickie weeks, though his option has been declined today, has yet to declare free agency and thus, remains on the 40-man. as mentioned earlier, expect many players to come off the 40-man once free agency is declared.) it appears that centeno has two minor league options remaining. his contract was purchased by the mets in september 2013 and he was optioned in spring training 2014--with some brief mlb service in 2014. EDIT: Added link (Mass Haas)
  8. it should be noted that all american league teams passed up the chance to claim jimenez earlier this week, and all national league teams with a record worse than the brewers (many teams) also passed on claiming him. that's not necessarily an indication of how things would play out if the brewers want jimenez to clear outright waivers and play for colorado springs in 2015, but it has to be considered by the brewers' management.
  9. the brewers claimed corner infielder luis jimenez from the angels today. it appears that jimenez will have no minor league options entering spring training in 2015, as he was optioned by the angels in spring training in 2012, 2013 and 2014. the roster stands at 39, with tyler thornburg and jim henderson still on the 60-day disabled list and a score of players waiting to declare free agency.
  10. if enough people chime in, #slopper and #slobber can be trending on twitter.
  11. bianchi has been outrighted three times by the brewers, and no team claimed him in those instances. compare that to the 2011-2012 offseason, when the royals waived him, the cubs claimed him, the cubs waived him and the brewers claimed him.
  12. unlike his entry into the brewers organization, alfredo figaro departs with a thread in the major league forum. i've often wondered about this . . . was figaro shunned by the brewerfan.net community?
  13. what's proper protocol for posting the signing of a player to a minor league contract? if it's about a player with major league experience, should it posted in the major league forum or the minor league forum? if it's about a player signed to a minor league contract but with an invitation to major league spring training camp, should it be posted in the major league forum? if the player has major league experience but isn't invited to big league camp, post it in the general thread for minor league transactions? the signings of aaaa-type players will start soon! inquiring minds want to know!
  14. one would think that the brewers activated bianchi ahead of henderson and thornburg with the intention of outrighting him so he could be one of the first players to elect free agency. with jeff bianchi, hector gomez and elian herrera out of options in 2015, i can't see the brewers carrying three utility infielders with no minor league options remaining. at least one of those is going to be removed from the 40-man.
  15. alfredo figaro (no options remaining) claimed by texas. matt pagnozzi outrighted (yes, he was with the brewers in september). the roster is now at 38, with many more openings expected when players start to file for free agency.
  16. i see what you did there.
  17. the brewers are really in a great position here, and i'd be shocked if they didn't exercise their side of the mutual option. if ramirez declines his part of the mutual option, it's a no-brainer for the brewers to make a qualifying offer. we shall see in the coming weeks.
  18. ron roenicke says the brewers have been talking about a move to first for braun.
  19. neither of the two players that the brewers sent to the reds for jonathan broxton were on the 40-man roster, so the roster remains full.
  20. rob wooten recalled. the active roster is at 35. from memory, i don't recall the brewers having this many players up in many, many years.
  21. team streak in 1987. hot april, horrible may (12 game losing streak).
  22. no other team claimed gindl and he was outrighted to nashville. he can declare minor league free agency.
  23. i'm sure the brewers were certain on 31 august that they were going to designate gindl for assignment. postseason roster eligibility rules have changed slightly, so had the brewers dfa'd gindl on 31 august and added one of matt clark or hector gomez to the 40-man roster that same day (without recalling him), that player would be available for postseason play without having to justify via the injury of another player.
  24. gindl has the right to declare minor league free agency if he goes unclaimed. if the brewers do not tender a contract to gerado parra, caleb gindl could indeed still have a future with the brewers at the big league level.
