  1. neglected to mention that the taxi squad catcher may also serve as a bullpen catcher. we don't know how things will shake out at the alternate training site yet, but it's possible that either nestor corredor or adam weisenburger would travel up to grand chute if a catcher is pulled away for the taxi squad on road trips--especially with jacob nottingham coming back slowly from his injury.
  2. we shall see if there's an official announcement on zimmermann today.
  3. It was just reported that File had surgery and will miss a good chunk of 2021. You can likely cross him off the list. See below. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2021/02/28/brewers-pitching-prospect-dylan-file-recovering-elbow-surgery/6859682002/ alec bettinger, sidelined by an elbow injury and yet to appear in a cactus league game, has begun throwing off a mound.
  4. he's starting at third base today.
  5. rick sweet has that exhibition play against the class aaa teams for the twins (st. paul) and the white sox (schaumburg) is very likely. some games will be in grand chute, and some will be in milwaukee while the brewers are on the road. it's a bit of a haul from st. paul to grand chute (over four hours' drive), but if the twins affiliate wants to play another team in exhibition play, grand chute is the closest alternate training site to st. paul.
  6. uecker just acknowledged that there's a problem.
  7. is anyone else getting horrible audio quality on the wtmj streaming feed via gameday audio?
  8. nottingham has had some setbacks. appears destined to open the season on the injured list . . .
  9. after throwing bp yesterday, ray black is tentatively scheduled to appear in a cactus league game on thursday.
  10. craig counsell spoke as if both arcia and urias would be on the opening day roster.
  11. provided taylor remains on optional assignment for more than 20 days in 2021, he will be in the same situation as derek fisher and billy mckinney are right now--out of options and likely guaranteed to make the roster.
  12. ray black threw bp to his teammates this morning, and was hitting 93-96 mph on one radar gun. time will tell if he's strong enough to avoid starting the season on the injured list and on the opening day roster.
  13. yet, he failed to tell us how he envisioned opening up two roster spots for boxberger and zimmermann. and he implied that it's super easy to adjust the roster after day 1 (as mentioned previously in this thread, it's not).
  14. luis castro came in as a defensive replacement at first base in yesterday's cactus league game.
  15. craig counsell reports that the club needs to make a decision on zimmermann in "about four days", which would be around 25 march. that is two days earlier than brad boxberger's reported opt-out date.
  16. only players on a major league contract can be dfa'd. zimmermann is on a minor league contract.
  17. now we know why antoine kelly has yet to make an appearance in a major league cactus game . . .
  18. a player can be given an outright assignment more than once. it's just after the first outright assignment, that the player has the right to refuse the minor league assignment and become a free agent. nottingham has never been outrighted before, so it remains a possibility (if he were to clear outright waivers). Cant [sic] a team claim him but then still stuff him in their AAA even though he doesn't have an option? It was something I think happened not long ago that I feel shouldn't happen. The claiming team imo should be forced to place him on 26man or return back to Brewers in this instance. when you claim a player off waivers, you have to add him to your 40-man roster. if he's out of options, he has to be added to your active roster. remember rob scahill? in 2017, he accepted an outright assignment by the brewers three times--which also means he cleared outright waivers three times that year. the first time he was outrighted, he had no choice but to accept the minor league assignment. the other two times, he could've refused the assignment and declared free agency, but he didn't. scahill's contract was selected by the brewers after the first outright assignment, and then again after the second outright assignment. but after the third outright assignment in 2017, he spent the rest of the season with class aaa colorado springs.
  19. a player can be given an outright assignment more than once. it's just after the first outright assignment, that the player has the right to refuse the minor league assignment and become a free agent. nottingham has never been outrighted before, so it remains a possibility (if he were to clear outright waivers).
  20. jace peterson has been told that he's not in the club's plans for opening day. his thumb injury has flared up again.
  21. i think that everything revolves around brad boxberger. if boxberger gets added to the 40-man roster, it comes at the expense of another player being dfa'd, suffering a long-term injury or testing positive. i think that you have to assume that both derek fisher and jacob nottingham open up the season on the injured list, so they're not the dfa candidates. ray black might open on the injured list, or could be dfa'd for boxberger. we don't know the severity of bobby wahl's oblique injury, other than that he will open the season on the injured list. if it's the 60-day, boxberger slides in. i don't think it's guaranteed that both orlando arcia and luis urias make the team. either can be optioned. that opens up a spot for both billy mckinney and daniel vogelbach. it will definitely come down to the wire. a positive test of any rostered player could happen at any moment . . . and again, that opens up a precious 40-man spot.
  22. godley reportedly has an opt-out mid-may.
  23. the brewers have signed zack godley to a minor league deal and invited him to big league camp. godley is out of options and has been outrighted to the minor leagues before. he becomes the 22nd non-roster player invited to big league camp, and will be one of six remaining non-roster invitees.
  24. 37 players remain in camp, including five non-roster players.
