  1. hamstring discomfort confirmed. craig counsell said that it's going to be close to get derek fisher back in exhibition games ahead of opening day. he certainly is a candidate to open the season on the injured list.
  2. a reminder that an optioned player must remain optioned for a minimum of 10 days, starting opening day, unless replacing an injured player or a player on leave. thus, a replacement player "early on" (i.e. first 10 days of the season) would have to be from outside of the organization, or a non-roster player.
  3. I hope they play in both Schaumburg and Grand Chute. I'm 10 minutes from Wintrust Field in Schaumburg. Illinois Gov just announced that state is on verge of allowing up to 60% of capacity for sporting events with anyone with proof he or she has had both doses or the one dose of the J and J not counting toward the 60%. Supposed to take effect once 70% of seniors have had at least one dose. That should happen in next couple weeks. this excellent article explains how forcing one team to travel three hours to play another might not be okay with mlb, who is dictating whether or not exhibition play is allowed. playing at american family field, as a midway destination, allows players to drive their own cars (as suggested in the article) and make it a reasonable drive for all parties.
  4. micah bello came in to play left field in today's game, and was on deck when the final out was made in the 9th.
  5. two weeks until opening day. corbin burnes is batting in a cactus league game (the first brewers pitcher to step to the plate this year). it doesn't look like the universal dh will be repeating in 2021 . . .
  6. turns out that the entire ats roster will travel to milwaukee at the conclusion of exhibition play in texas. that's 28 guys, plus 26 for the mlb roster.
  7. the brewers will be traveling north with 26 players for the major league roster, and 28 players for the alternate training site roster. until the ats in grand chute opens up 12 april, those players will be allowed to work out at american family field. presumably, when the brewers hit the road, they will take five taxi squad players from that ats roster with them to chicago and st. louis. the club's second homestand conveniently starts 12 april.
  8. devin williams is scheduled to make his cactus league debut saturday.
  9. what's confusing is that the alternate training camp won't open until 12 april. will these 28 guys destined for grand chute stay in maryvale until then? if needed before 12 april, they most certainly would have to take commercial airfare from phoenix to milwaukee. maybe the brewers will be allowed to take their taxi squad of five players north with them, even though they are starting the season at home?
  10. to no one's surprise, grand chute, wisconsin, has been named the official alternate training site for the brewers. the brewers will be allowed to field a 28-man roster there, and in april, only players from the alternate training site can replace players on the major league roster. hopeful that fans will be allowed!
  11. Between File's injury and Bettinger and Brown needing to be shut down at various times, the starting pitching depth has taken a beating as well. don't forget thomas jankins has been shut down with a flexor strain. because there likely won't be any exhibition games in april, the alternate training site roster will just have to get intrasquad work in. i'm hoping that the brewers and white sox alternate training site teams will be able to play an exhibition series or two at american family field while the brewers are on the road. milwaukee is nearly equidistant from grand chute and schaumburg.
  12. i don't believe that pregame and postgame analysis by fox sports wisconsin has ever been included in mlb.tv streaming, and the youtube tv and facebook live streams of brewers games have employed talent outside of fox sports wisconsin, no? (i remember dan plesac calling a game or two.)
  13. click on the tweet in the original post.
  14. it's my understanding that another former brewer will be replacing jerry augustine for that regional sports network. he was a nashville sounds teammate of dillard's, and likely were on the same brewers roster from time to time. My guesses for the riddle are Ax, Lo, or Narvdogg. the secret's out. he's been volunteering at a meal program with my mom in racine and he told her about his new gig.
  15. vinny rottino, a former brewer, should get some love in the thread title.
  16. considering that tim lopes and mark mathias are both out with injuries, the brewers are probably going to need some infield help for the april alternate training site roster and the class aaa nashville roster in (hopefully) may. will it come in the form of younger players from "early camp", or via a free agent signing?
  17. in case you've lost count, 40 players remain in major league camp--five of which are non-roster players. one of the 40 is expected to open the season on the injured list (bobby wahl). a number of others have been shut down, or have only recently begun playing again in cactus league games after being shut down: ray black (sore right elbow) lorenzo cain (right quadriceps strain) derek fisher (left hamstring) jacob nottingham (recovery from thumb surgery) luis urías (recovered from left hamstring injury) devin williams (held back after end-of-season strained right rotator cuff)
  18. craig counsell, on whether or not zimmermann would remain in the organization if not on the brewers opening day roster, "we have not discussed that".
  19. hedbert perez made his cactus league debut today and struck out against trevor bauer. here are the remaining six "early camp" players who have yet to appear in a major league cactus game: lhp antoine kelly rhp max lazar rhp reese olson of micah bello 3b lucas erceg c/of cooper hummel
  20. craig counsell expects bobby wahl to open the season on the injured list with an oblique strain.
  21. So you think that anyone that doesn't make the opening day roster just gets shut down until May? the brewers have to figure that out. 28 players will report to the alternate training site to work out in april until the class aaa season starts. 26 players will open the season at american family field. a second wave of spring training will be starting in maryvale, but these will be guys who need time to clear intake and get ramped up.
  22. c payton henry, lhp aaron ashby and rhp zack brown have been reassigned to minor league camp. five non-roster invitees remain in major league camp.
  23. dylan cozens has been reassigned to minor league camp. this thread lives on while hoby milner remains in major league camp.
  24. zach green has been reassigned to minor league camp.
