  1. cain has already been sidelined two to three days.
  2. quad issue, reportedly. the brewers are being cautious. we never know how these injuries go, but it's probably best to devote a thread to it just to keep track.
  3. no idea what will happen here. it appears that the brewers will be signing a free agent to a major league contract. he will have to pass a physical, report to phoenix, and clear intake before he officially comes part of the 75. but someone will have to be bumped, and unless traded to or claimed by another team, that someone likely remains under the brewers' control. where will he be allowed to go?
  4. as outlined in this excellent article, in the month of april, clubs may only promote players from their alternate training site--which is essentially their class aaa club in an extended exhibition season. they cannot promote from class aa or lower. the alternate training site roster is set at 28 players.
  5. of course, you can't rule out a last-minute change, but a universal dh in 2021 appears to not be happening. no recent movement and no planned discussions.

  7. if the minor leaguer is lucky enough to make the roster at the alternate training site, he will be earning pay. do keep in mind that the brewers will be operating a second wave of spring training in april, so some guys who may have been destined for the nashville roster may get time there. but, under normal rules, players aren't paid during spring training.

  9. it's going to be at least until after st. patrick's day before devin williams gets an in-game appearance.
  10. it's going to be at least until after st. patrick's day before devin williams gets an in-game appearance.
  11. no word on how this affects the pay of minor leaguers. just like major leaguers, they don't start getting paid until opening day.
  12. we already knew that class aa and both high a and low a were going to have later starts this season. but we had expected the class aaa season to start 6 april. now, that may not be the case, as alternate training sites and intrasquad play may start up in april instead.
  13. it should be noted that because zimmermann is a player with at least six years of service time who finished the 2020 season on a major league roster or major league injured list, his minor league contract requires an opt-out clause or a retention bonus if he isn't added to the major league roster before opening day.
  14. it should be noted that because boxberger is a player with at least six years of service time who finished the 2020 season on a major league roster or major league injured list, his minor league contract requires an opt-out clause or a retention bonus if he isn't added to the major league roster before opening day.
  15. neither player finished 2020 on a major league roster or the major league injured list. given that, and seeing neither has enough service time to require an opt-out clause before opening day, it's highly unlikely that either successfully negotiated for an opt-out clause. they signed minor league contracts with the brewers. they remain under the brewers' control and can be sent to any minor league affiliate as they see fit.
  16. the brewers don't have much time to evaluate travis shaw--especially with six-inning games slated for the start. shaw's opt-out is 15 march. and if you figure that the brewers will want to give keston hiura and daniel vogelbach as many reps at first as possible, it's not like the brewers can afford to sneak some time in at first for shaw.
  17. yes, but because he didn't sustain the injury during major league camp, the brewers are not obligated to place him on the major league injured list. they can choose to do so, but it comes at the expense of major league pay and accrued service time.
  18. you also have to factor in how late players are signing deals, and that spring training starts earlier than in years past. jay jackson and mike moustakas signed after 15 february 2019, and neither had an entry in that year's media guide.
  19. discussed in the minor league forum.
  20. (raises hand) i have one for every year starting in 1986. i reference them soooooooo often when i post.
  21. the brewers are not printing a media guide for 2021. raise your hand if this makes you sad.
  22. jacob nottingham has not started baseball drills yet. no timetable for his return.
