  1. I really hope Saito can come back and be effective; he would be such a welcome sight in the 8th inning. (that is if RR actually lets him pitch)
  2. Hawkins has got to be hurt; that the only thing I can come up with. I think the Estrada magic from earlier this year is officially gone; bring McClendon back.
  3. So why exactly has Wilson not been given a chance at SS? Yuni's two hits tonight have bought him at least another week of starts
  4. With Green & Gamel having so much success at AAA this year it is making me quite a bit more optimistic about next year's lineup Weeks Morgan/Gomez Braun Hart Gamel Lucroy Green Some random SS My pipe dream would be Reyes Morgan/Gomez Braun Weeks Hart Gamel Lucroy Green I am not sure that Green would be a good 8 hitter but I am not sure how to move him up in the order either. Assuming we just get an average SS; I think it would be a safe assumption that Melvin could extend Marcum and/or Grienke which would be pretty amazing.
  5. Betancourt wasn't this bad last year; he had a very respectable OPS for a SS and had a lifetime OPS approaching .700. I don't think anyone was anticipating YUni to fall off the cliff like the has. He is having his worst season as a pro. That being said; just dump the guy and get it over with; I am ready to move on. The guy has walked exactly twice since May 22nd and I believe he has been intentionally walked during that span. He single handedly allows opposing pitchers to stay in the game longer due to his complete lack of plate decipline. If you are going to swing at the first pitch at least swing hard; he swings like he doesn't quite want too but has a reputation to live up to.
  6. I am trying really hard to get over the tough loss last night but I just can't seem to do it. There was just all kinds of stupid and I just can't stop thinking about. I like RR but for goodness sakes use your freaking brain sometime. Pena was 3-48 against LHP? What motivation could RR possibly have to leave Loe in there especially after seeing what happened in CIN not to long ago? Then you actually pitch to Ramirez when you have a really good DP/K candidate with Soto on deck? And you squeeze on a 3-1 count with the pitcher up. I hope RR is second guessing himself on his multitude of stupid decisions last night but he certainly hasn't made that public. If you aren't going to use Braddock on the 8th inning of a tie game with the go ahead run on base against Pena who is 3-48 against lefties then why the heck is Braddock on the roster? It still isn't Yost intentionally walking Howard with Shouse but man it is right up there.
  7. If I am remembering correctly; RR has pinch hit for Nieves as soon as Wolf is out (Or will be out) in each of his last 3 appearances. Obviously RR has no confidence in his offensive abilities at all yet still feels he is worth a roster spot. If Fielder & Braun weren't so hot leading to a whole bunch of wins Melvin/RR would be feeling a lot more pressure to change the bench. Unfortunately I think the only way the bench is altered is if we go on a losing streak again.
  8. My hunch is they give McGehee until the all star break unless the Brewers start losing. At that point perhaps Melvin gets a little desperate.
  9. Its not like Lucroy has been lighting the world on fire either; he has been struggling big time. And the fact the Wolf just plain doesn't like Lucroy tied RR's hands on that one. Melvin really needs to help RR too and just get rid of the deadweight. Get rid of Nieves, Wilson, and Kotsay; bring up Kottaras, Green, and Gamel/Gindl. Kotsay as the DH in Boston should be really fun. This is why I hate playing the Cubs; they always seems to have just dumbfounding losses such as this.
  10. Not RR finest hour for sure; but 4 frickin hits against Demp is a joke. He should have also had Braddock ready knowing that Quade had Fukodome and Pena on the bench. Bad managing and an inept offense usually doesn't provide good results.
  11. I have gone on record with my love for RR but that squeeze was just dumb. 3-1 count with the infield in; there were a ton of outcomes that could have happened with far less risk than the squeeze
  12. I know the Cubs are just god awful this year but I still have an awful feeling about this series. The Brewers could go on a 20 game winning streak and I would still worry about having to play the Cubs. I don't know what it is; just something about playing CHI that always makes me nervous.
  13. RR has been pushing a lot of good buttons right now. He is still making some in game mistakes but at least IMO those mistakes have become fewer and farther in between. RR is learning on the job and seems to be making some good progress. His next logical step should be to just give up un Yuni already and I think he is pretty close to that point. If he had another legitimate every day option at SS he probably would have already made the change. His stubborness with the late innings in the bullpen is a little concerning but he is hardly the only manager who is stubborn in that regard. I don't know why he doesn't use Hawkins more and he probably uses Loe too much.
  14. Fielder & Braun are locks, Weeks & Marcum should be virtual locks. If Gallardo keeps winning and knocks down that ERA he has a shot as well. Sadly Lucroy probably has no shot.
  15. ESPN's hype of his first start in NY was over the top borderline ridiculous. There have been probably 20+ more talented players that have debuted since Joba and none received even 1/10th of the attention that Joba got.
  16. I am just going to raise my own hopes and think we have anything more than a 5% chance of resigning him. The good news is that many of the big market teams already have a 1B/DH but it really only takes one team to price out MIL. Unfortunately I think that team might be the Cubs. I fully expect Melvin to offer something like 6/126 which while a lot of money just won't quite be enough most likely. The only way I see them resigning Fielder is if he signs a Bobby Bonilla contract. Something like 6/156 but with 3-4 Million deferred every year and repaid over 10-15 years with interest. I really doubt Mark A or Doug would ever entertain that though; you don't want to be paying a 45 year old retired guy $5 Million a year. Personally I think we would be better off taking the $15 Million he is making this year and offer extensions to Marcum & Grienke. We will have plenty of internal options to fill 1B in the coming years; although obviously none of the players are of Prince's calibur.
  17. I generally agree with not walking the bases loaded; it just seemed to make sense. They Brewers were already down one; if it was tied or they were trailing already I would agree that walkinh him would have been a bad idea. We were already losing; I would have taken the risk of walking in a run in exchange for the GIDP that Loe is usually pretty good at inducing. O well, no harm no foul; we have a chance to steal a win and get Loe out of the 8th inning all in one night. Seems like a pretty positive outcome to me
  18. Kotsay did play remember. He used his awesome power to fly out to the warning track.
  19. It is a major stretch to say you never walk the bases loaded. When you are already down by one with a base open facing a guy with three hits already; you walk him end of story. Especially when Loe is supposedly a sinker ball pitcher who gets a lot of ground balls.
  20. If anything; I hope that finally convinces RR that Loe is simply not an 8th inning guy. He should be what Mitre is right now
  21. I get where Bill was going but he was making no sense. The better comparison would be the NBA; you don't want 1/2 the teams in the league making the playoffs. It justs dilutes everything. But Bill was talking out of his butt there
  22. Someone is going to look awful stupid if it starts raining and the roof is open
  23. It would be nice if we had a power bat on our bench right about now.......
  24. So who is going to be the Josh Wilson tonight? 6-8 isn't instilling much confidence in me right now
  25. There really aren't any players playing way over their heads right now; it just seems that the Brewers have won so many close games recently that they are bound to lose a couple. Or perhaps they are getting sick of close games and will just decide to beat the crap out of everyone from now on. This weekend will be a battle of epic proportions; The Brewers and their huge hot streak vs. the Cardinals and Jaime Garcia, Kyle Lohse, Allen Craig, Ryan Theriot, Lance Berkman, and John Jay (You know the players that all of a sudden are world beaters)
