  1. Apparently th Sox are on the verge of acquiring V-Mart
  2. I guess I don't really care. It certainly not something to get upset about IMO. We didn't give up and anything and we didnt't get anything. We have our new Seth McClung.
  3. Well if the Mariners were looking for major league ready pitching we certainly weren't a good match for them. It doesn't seem like they gave up a lot but if Jack Z is looking for pitching you have to understand why the Brewers weren't a match. I suppose we could have offered a couple A Ballers but who knows what Jack Z was looking for
  4. Details forthcoming. Don't yet know who the Tigers gave up www.mlbtraderumors.com EDIT: Apparently Luke French is one of the prospects going to the Mariners
  5. It wouldn't hurt for McGehee to at least try to work the count every once in a while. He is going to end up like Corey Hart quickly if he keeps hacking away at 1st & 2nd pitches
  6. This is turning into a "Whose Who" of 2003 Home Run Hitters Obviously not suprised by Manny, but I am pretty suprised my Ortiz. Not exactly sure why though.
  7. No matter what the Crew does this year I won't be changing by ticket plans for next year at all. I would hope that most fans realize we can't win every year and will continue to support the team but I guess you never know. No matter what the Brewers do the rest of the year I can't really see attendace falling below 2,500,000 next year. Maybe after a couple years of mediocrity it will start to fall substantially but not just one. The Brewers are too much of a hot item right now to completely fall off of the map in a years time.
  8. Cabrera can't hold Cam's jock strap either offensively or defensively. I don't care if he is cheaper and younger. If we could afford to pay for the better player in Cameron I just assume we do that instead of settling for the cheap option. Most people devalue Cam because he strikes out so much, but I bet there are a ton of GMs out there that would love to have him on the roster. He is a really solid player. I will not be upset at all if he is back again next year and I hope he isn't sold off this year. If we are going to sell, I would much rather it by JJ and or Hart because I think they are much more replaceable than Cam.
  9. Either the Indians were dumb and didnt ask for enough or the Blue Jays are being unrealistic. By all accounts the package the Indians got is no where near what the Blue Jays were asking for. Yet you would think the value of Lee & Halladay aren't really all that different. Both have been similary productive and both are signed for next year. So either the Cleveland or the Toronto GM comes out looking like a fool.
  10. When you consider all the guys the have traded in the last 2 years, it is pretty amazing that they were so terrible. A lineup with McClouth, Bay, LaRoche, Wilson, Nady, Sanchez etc wasn't all that bad. And their pitching has never been horrible either. They have had some good pitching talent in Duke, Maholm, Snell, Gorzo (Snell & Gorzo were atleast solid at one point) I get what they are doing, they aren't going to win with the roster they have now so they might as well just gut it and start over. Although I can't imagine that the Pirate fanbase is to enthused right about now.
  11. Did I miss something, why did Gamel not play at Nashville today? Just a regular day off or what?
  12. Well The M's aren't going to be looking at a SS anymore (Atleast not Hardy). Wilson probably isn't there long term answer though so they probably would still have an interest in a SS prospect. Jack Z did a good job at buying low on Snell. By all accounts Clement was never going to make it in Seattle, no idea who the other guys are. So assuming the rest of the bunch going to the Pirates are B Level prospects I would say Seattle fared pretty well. The Pirates already have some catching depth so I would assume Clement is going to play 1st for them and Cedeno can play Ss for the time being
  13. I would love to get him to if we didn't suck so much. Even if we got him I have no reason to believe that we would make the playoffs so what is the point? If we could get him w/o Gamel or Escobar than maybe.
  14. I am almost positive that I just heard that Rickie could be a PTBNL. I guess in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. If we wanted to trade him it would be done one way or the other But anyways unless we are also getting someone like Morrow back, the Mariners aren't a realy logicl trading partner anymore. That is unless Doug still think we are only 1 pitcher away.
  15. We might as well just bring up some of our A-Ballers at this point. Wow that is terrible.
  16. At this point I will actually be dissappointed if we don't sell to get some pieces for next year and beyond. If we aren't going to make the playoffs what is the point of hanging on to guys like Cameron, Hardy, Looper and Hart? It seems pretty apparent that they aren't in our long term plans anyways.
  17. Well heres hoping they don't make the same mistakes after the 2010 year because they are going to have boatloads of money to spend. And (Fingers Crossed) we should get a nice wave if prospects in 2011 so they might be able to go big on a good FA or extend Fielder. The only signings I haven't liked are Suppan and Gagne. I didn't hate the Suppan signing but I didn't exactly like it either. I didn't mind that we took a risk on Gagne but $10M seems like a bit much.
  18. We also need a new 3rd base coach. Fischer has been entirely underwhelming this year. Yeah lets get thrown out at home down by 5 feet down by a billion runs with the top of the order coming up
  19. Sell the whole stupid pitching staff except Gallardo. This will be one interesting trading deadline and offseason, if we go into next year with another very mediocre/poor starting rotation I am going to freak. OUr window with our best offensive player (Fielder) is shrinking fast and you would hate to miss out on title contention because of a horrible pitching staff.
  20. I am not sure he had a whole lot of options this past offseason either though. If anything it is his/Jack Z's fault for just laying an egg in the MILB pitching department sans Gallardo. I think everyone of our starters has fallen below my expectations thus far and lets face it a lot of things had to go right in the pitching staff for this team to be a legitimate contender I am excited for after 2010 when we finally get rid of some bad contracts, hopefully get some good FA pitching, and we actually get some contributors from our farm system. This has been an extremely frustrating season, I won't blame Doug one bit if he decides to just stand pat. We need 3 new starters right now
  21. I wouldn't call it o% although it is highly unlikely. No doubt in my mind that Escobar could be had for the right price
  22. Atleast thus far the Linebrink trade was a failure for all parties involved. Linebrink stunk when he was with us and no one we sent over has amounted to anything thus far I would be fine sending Escobar to Seattle but we would need another significant piece other than Washburn. I don't know if they have any other high level pitching prospects other than Morrow. I wonder if we could get back Rowland-Smith some how? He has had some decent success in the Majors the last couple years, maybe a #3 type pitcher.
  23. Its one thing to say someone is "untouchable" in the media, its quite another to say a player is "untouchable" to another GM. Other GMs could probably care less about what Melvin says to the media, if they take Doug's words to the media as fact and are too lazy to give him a call to ask about the player then they deserve to be left out in the trade market. There would be no reason for other Gm's to respect Melvin less if he lied to the media, in fact they might ask the guy for a few tips
  24. Well he is always going to playing for another contract and being a bench player isn't going to help him get more money the next time he is looking for a job. If I were him and had the opporunity to get a full time job at lets say $3M or a part time job at $5M I might be inclinded to take the $3M if I felt it would do more to build up my value in the future.
  25. I would also hope he realizes that today's market isn't what it was 3 years ago either. His value in this upcoming offseason is probably no where near 3 years and $7M per even with his excellent season. I think the Crew would have a realistic shot at signing him, maybe 2 years/10-12M. I am still trying to figure out what kind of package would need to be done to get him here. It would take more than just Washburn for Hardy or Escobar I am just not sure how much more. I would think it would take more for Escobar just because he is under control for much longer than Hardy. If Jack has soured on Morrow I could see a Hardy + a prospect for Washburn & Morrow or Escobar for Washburn & Morrow. The prospect in the Hardy trade probably has to be in the 7-15 range.
