  1. Offical snow total in Madison is 17.5 inches to date. Still don't know FDL but I would guess around 14 or so
  2. This would also be a solid addition, depending on price of course. At least early on Melvin is hellbent on improving the pitching staff. A bullpen of Hoffman, Coffey, Hawkins, Vargas, and Stetter is one hell of a bullpen IMO.
  3. There is no reason come January that Doug can't pick up one of two of the shorter term, riskier pitchers. However I agree with Doug that he needs to get atleast one stable guy that he can count on. Considering what is available this year, Wolf is the guy. I just can't believe people are really complaining so much about Wolf considering the awesome year he had last year. If he pitches anywhere close to that 3/27 is an absolute steal.
  4. Garland is a fine back up plan. Like TH's post suggests these injury risk pitchers might come at a bargain in January. If someone like Harden, Sheets, Bedard, Duchsherer is still available in January then maybe make a run at one. Right now is the time to get some stability and Wolf or Garland would achieve that. I just don't understand why some many people seem to think that Wolf or Garland are going to be the next Suppan. These deals would not be for 4 years, would not be 8 figures, and Wolf is obviously better while Garland is a bit more pedestrian. Both would be good additions to the staff
  5. I agree with what most of said on here. In fact Wolf might be the safest FA Starting Pitcher out there. Seriously what other FA could we get that we can reasonably assume will stay healthy and pitch well the majority of the time? 3/27 for Wolf would be a solid start to the offseason. Add one or two of the often mentioned short term deal guys and we will be able to compete for the division title. But Doug needed to acquire at least one pitcher that he can depend on.
  6. I revise my snowfall total to atleast a foot in FDL. Luckily the snow is so wet that it really isn't blowing around at all. I think I threw my back out about 4 different times trying to dig my car out this morning. I will agree that it is a beautiful snow. There is an inch or two sitting on every tree limb
  7. I guess I am a little dissappointed with the snow total so far here in FDL, just doesn't look like we have gotten all that much. I would guess that we have about 6 inches right now and we were projected for 14-15. Still time I guess but I think we will be lucky to crack double digits by the time this thing is done. I have no idea why I am up right now
  8. Well if that were true I would feel pretty good with a rotation Gallardo Wolf Washburn Bush Suppan/Parra I would assume that if both Wolf and Washburn were acquired that Melvin would try desperately to get rid of Suppan. Take back a different bad contract that actually helps the club rather than a bad contract that is stuck as a long reliever. I still would like a Mulder type signing as depth. Parra might also be the odd man out if Melvin doesn't want 3 Lefties in the rotation. That is still not an awesome rotation but still infinitely better than last year. We'll see if that rumor has any legs at all. If we sign both of these guys I have to imagine our budget would be pretty well tapped out.
  9. I guess I have a hard time believing that Livan and Wolf are even remotely similar pitches. Livan has been more durable but he sucks at this point his career. Wolf threw over 200 innings 3.2 ERA ball last year with decent/good peripherals. I still think 3/31 is a solid deal for Wolf and is probably paying market value. Look how much the Cards gauranteed Penny next year for gosh sakes. Yeah it is only one year but that seems really high. Wolf at $10M looks like a bargain compared to that
  10. FDL was upgraded to a Blizzard Warning. These snow totals seem to keep going up. 15 Inches now? My arms are going to fall off shoveling in the morning
  11. Or you could say Wolf pitched 214 innings in 2009 and 190 innings in 2008. See I can make the stats look in favor of making the signing as well. His 5 year stats are heavily skewed by low totals in 2005 and 2006. Should we really be worried about what happened 3-4 years ago? He has been healthy the last 2 years so at this point there is no reason to expect that he is going to be an injury liability. He is probably the best pitcher with the least amount of risk that the Brewers can afford at this point, plus it won't cost us any prospects or draft picks. As far as this year's FA SP crop is concerned, Wolf is easily one of the safer bets. If the rumored deal of 3/30 is accurate I have no problem with it.
  12. Anyone know if tailgaiting is going to be an option at Target Field? Also when do single game tickets usually go on sale? I am going to have a Group of 4 going for all three games and I want to make sure I actually get the tickets.
  13. Rotoworld had speculation that if Hart were traded that Marlon Byrd would be the next target for the Crew. I would love Marlon Byrd's bat on this team. Not sure what kind of defender he is though. I would easily do this Maine/Harty swap. Even when he was injured his numbers looked good, Low BAA, low WHIP, the K:BB ratio leaves a lot to be desired however.
  14. I like this deal. Thuis couple with the Maine/Hart trade and the signing of Marlon Byrd for RF (As speculated on rotoworld) I think the team is significantly better. Although with Maine's injury concerns I still would like to pick up another pitcher
  15. Maybe kick the tires on Tulo while you're at it . . . Seriously, Jimenez is not going anywhere. That is why I said that CO has no incentive to move in. Even though I know it would never happen its not like I can't hypothesize. I could see something with Jeff Francis though....
  16. I would love to get Jimenez, obviously would take more than Corey Hart to do it. There really isn't a reason for CO to trade him either, but I can dream. Jimenez would easily start with Hart, one of our catchers, and a couple of our good SP prospects. ALso wouldn't mind if we could get Jeff Francis and get his career back on track after an injury plagued and largely ineffective 2009. They probably have enough good arms so they could be persuaded to part with one for the right package.
  17. I am not really giving up on Jennings (definitely not on Bogut) bu his shooting and decision making has left a lot to be desired of late. He is still way better than I was expecting him to be but he is looking more like a rookie than the crazy guy we saw through the first 10 games. Bogut always seems to go through these stretches and we almost always find later on that he was hurt. Even if he plays thi bad, he is better than any alternative we have. Gadzuric might be the post pathetic player in the NBA right now. How anyone gave that guy a 6 year contract is beyond me. He has no offensive game whatsoever and he is a foulding machine who can't even remotely guard another C. The Bucks could definitely use another high draft pick next year. If they can get a Top 5 pick talent in 2010 and shed Redd's salary in 2011 they could be in a really good position to have a quality team in a couple years
  18. I was kind of including his arm strength in my valuation of defense. He probably has pretty decent range but his arm in CF would be a major concern. Teams would take extra bases constantly. I think he would fit in pretty nicely on the offensive side, he would be a solid #1-2 man. As long as the salaries are wash at worst it makes sense for the Brewers to do it, not so much for the Dodgers
  19. I am in FDL so I should assume that I am going to be in that 10-13 inch area? I am still stuck with my shovel. ( I might get a snowblower for Christmas) Looking forward to getting up at 4 AM to shovel on Wednesday morning when it will likely be still snowing hard.
  20. Seems like the shine is already coming off of the Bucks. Its been a couple ugly weeks and Jennings is starting to look like the guy everyone though he would be, the guy that can't shoot.
  21. I guess I don't really see the point from a dodgers perspective. Pierre has a bad contract, Suppan has a bad contract but Pierre certainly seems more valuable than Suppan does at this point. I have a hard time believing that the dodgers don't have 5 starters that are better than Suppan right now. If I were the Brewers I would probably do it in a heart beat. Although Pierre is a terrible CF but good LF. Of course being a good defensive LF doesn't do the Brewers a whole lot of good.
  22. I like the signing. Our catching position will now likely cost about $3 Million less than it did last year and out #1 catcher will have an OPS probably around 100 points higher than Kendall had last year. Plus Zaun is somewhat of a proven commodity, the same can't be said for Rivera (On a full time basis) Kottaras, LuCroy or Salome. Sure Melvin could have gone with a combination of Kottaras/Salome/Rivera/LuCroy but that would have been a pretty big risk especially when you consider that Melvin is already taking considerable risk (offensively) by starting Escobar and Gomez. Besides a 1 year deal at $2 Million is not going to keep the Brewers from getting the pitching they want. If they want someone bad enough they will go over budget by $2 Million if they have to. $2 Million for one year is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things
  23. Villanueva has completely failed anytime they have tried him as a starter, I would hope they wouldn't go down that road again. Narveson I could see, but Villy should be a Spot Starter/6th-7th inning guy and thats it. I have never been all that high in Villy so I won't be upset if they include him in a trade package. I doubt Parra ends up in the bullpen as well, he either starts in MLB, starts in AAA, or is pitching for another team next year.
  24. Taylor looks like he has a ton of offensive potential. He can really drive the ball, just needs to develop a better shot. Evans on the other hand looks like he is years away from contributing offensively.
  25. There is an article in today's local paper about the proposed expansion of the state's largest dairy operations (Currently 7,000 cows). They are getting the necessary approvals to increase the herd to 13,000 cows and in doing so, the farm would produce more waste than all but two Wisconsin cities (Milwaukee and Madison). It is amazing that a 13,000 cow dairy just outside of Rosendale ( A town of about 1,100) can produce that much poop.
