  1. I don't see an other games thread today so I thought I would try to jinx the Cubs here. Lilly has a no-hitter through 6 2/3rds Ah my jinx worked before I even posted. Atkins singled to break up the no-no. Lilly would not have been able to go the distance anways and Marmol already has pitched 3 consecutive days so the no-no would not have lasted
  2. I am young and also just bought a house. I am also trying to prepay on my mortgage as much as possible but for different reasons. I am married and we will start having kids within the next 2-3 years and the house is only big enough to hold at most 2 kids. So I want that mortgage balance as low as possible so I can have a bigger downpayment on our 2nd larger house in 5-6 years. I feel very fortunate to be in the financial place that I am now even though I am far from being considered rich. Now if I didn't have all these stinking student loans I would be feeling really good. I am also trying to save up for a new car in 1.5-2 years to accomodate a baby. My wife and I both like the Kia Sorrento. I have found several used ones with 10K miles for about $15,000, that seems like a very good price to me but I guess I don't know much about cars in general or the Sorrento. And who knows what car prices will be 1-2 years from now. The only other thing I would like to add is that anyone who doesn't contribute to their 401K up to the employers match is just stupid unless your financial situation is dire. I am fortunate to have an employer match 100% up to 6% of my salary. I will be looking foward to seeing that balance well in upwards of $1,000,000 when I am nearing retirement in 14,600 days.
  3. Regardless of if Justice was being serious or not, the Astros are off too a terrible start so far. 1-6 after the getting shut out by the Pirates today. Their pitching has sucked as expected but their offense is also off to a bad start. Whats even worse is that all of their games have been in the division thus far. Besides Justice there was a guy on WTMJ (Not Falconio, O'Donnell or Michaels) who said the Astros would finish ahead of the Brewers. The guy is usually on for weekends only and he didn't really sound like he really knew baseball at all. The Crew is only 2-4 thus far too but the Astros haven't even been competing thus far with losses of 7-0, 11-2, 3-0, and 11-6. At least the Crew has had a chance to win every game with the exception of Game #3 where Cain shut us down
  4. I like there 3-4-5 but the rest of their lineup is entirely underwhelming. There bottom of the lineup is just a black hole. Of course ours with Kendall isn't that much better. I am calling it right now that Jason will get 2 hits tonight. With him batting in front of Gallardo he is going to get some pitches to hit http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. So you don't think he could get the Joba Chamberlain/Brandon Morrow treatment? Granted his wildness wouldn't bode well for bullpen duty but I guess it could be considered feasible. That really doesn't do much good in terms of building up his innings though for when he is ready to be a starter. So I guess I am a little split. But if he doesn't develop some conrol fast I would agree that he should be now where near an MLB bullpen. I still think if he has a crazy good year that their is a slight chance of him cracking the roster next year
  6. Assuming all these prospects have good years this year I would suspect that Salome, Gamel, Escobar, and very likely Jeffress could be on the opening day roster next year. Escobar would be the only one that is really blocked. And unless Hall is moved back to CF again next year Cain also probably has a decent shot at cracking the 25 next April. I highly doubt Melvin would want all those guys debuting at the same time so I would suspect some trades somewhere to get a decent mix of veteran/rookie talent starting the 2010 season. When you think about it Braun is probably the only player guaranteed to be on the roster next year, every other position player could theoritcally be playing elsewhere next year. But back to the topic at hand, I really like Mat Gamel, at least based on stats and on the opinion of those who have seen him play. If Gamel could play an entire year with under 25 errors I think it is worth giving him a shot. I am not sure that is feasible at this point though
  7. So when are we going to face a pitcher that isn't a #1 or #2 calibur pitcher? This is kind of ridiculous. Anything can be better than yesterday's game, so I am hoping a Gallardo win gets the bad memories of Jeff Suppan out of my mind.
  8. The whole Suppan situation has been rather frustrating. What if we had an additional 12.5 million to spend the last two offseasons, think of the extensions and/or trades Melvin could have pulled off! Suppan was far from the missing link to last years playoff team and the Brewers probably would have found a way to make the playoffs anyways with a different SP in the rotation. I can't help but think that if Doug had had an additional 12.5M to spend this offseason that Peavy might be a Brewer right now. i guess there is no use dwelling on the past though. I'll be honest I kind of liked the deal at the time because Suppan was a "winner" and the Crew didn't really have a whole lot of quality SP depth at that time. Now it is just an albatross contract. Yeah he has his good moments, but $12.5M pitchers need more than just good moments, they need to keep the team in the game night in and night out.
  9. I doubt their would ever be a "Brewers Network" I mean really how many professional sports teams have their own TV network. When the FSN contract is up for renewal, the Crew is going to have a ton of leverage I would think given their impressive ratings. When is the contract up again? It is just a joke we have to wait almsot 3 weeks into the season before the first HD games after they promised last year that every game would be on HD. I don't think there is any doubt taht Brewer telecasts are by far the most viewed program on FSN North/Wisconsin whatever it is, FSN should devote a little more money towards a quality broadcast.
  10. Macha did look pretty pissed on those camera shots in the dugout. I don't think Suppan carries the same veteran mystic in the Macha clubhouse than he did in the Yost clubhouse. If one of the middling AAA starters has a good first couple of starts, I think Macha/Melvin will have a much easier job just sticking Suppan in the pen, but right now there are no other options. Suppan has just been absolutely pathetic these first two games, the Crew isn't going to win too many games when they constantly have to play catch up.
  11. I guess I am not to worried yet, we've faced 4 very good starting pitchers and our offense isn't really clicking yet. Once JJ and Braun start hitting the offense will be fine. Considering the pitching we have faced they have done a pretty darn good job. The opposing pitchers pitch county has routinely been extremely high. I also agree that Kendall has just looked pathetic at the plate this year, at somp point his lack of offense will diminish the value of his defense. Rivera is obviouly a much better hitter and I am not so sure that he is that far behind Kendall defensively. I have been very happy with Weeks, Hart, Fielder, and Cameron so far. Obviously I am worried about Suppan and the high number of walks for almost all of the pitchers. Coffey, Looper, and Gallardo were bright spots in the 1st week but everyone else has struggled somewhat. Yesterday's game was by far the most frustrating, even more than the Saturday loss, the pitching staff pretty much gave the game away yesterday.
  12. i am incredibly nervous right now, Villy's first pressure packed home save situation against the rival Cubs no less.
  13. How the heck did Prince just get caught in a run down on a strikeout? Yikes bad baserunning
  14. Now would be a good time for JJ to break out of the slump, or atleast get it to the OF. I have a good feeling about this AB.
  15. We need to take advantage of this. We sure are taking a ton of walks this year, hopefully Prince and/or Hardy can give us the lead back.
  16. Damn if Bush can even closely replicate this game over the course of the entire year, our rotation will be much better than everyone anticipated. A Sub 4 ERA out Bush would make me a happy man.
  17. If his two lasers to right in SF had fallen he would be batting .333
  18. Big Z isn't going to make it past the 5th inning the way his pitch count is going.
  19. Well Rivera now has more hits than Kendall on the year.
  20. Would have liked to score there but I will take a 27 pitch 1st inning. JJ is really struggling although he has had a couple screamers right at people. The walk by Hart was a positive development, Uecker made it sound like Hart could have scored but Fischer held him up.
  21. Very nice 1st inning for Mr. Bush with a low pitch count. It would be nice if he could make it through 6-7 so we don't have to deal with our crappy middle relievers
  22. I like this blurb in the gam preview at MLB.com... "The last time he faced the Brewers on their home turf was last July 29, when he threw eight shutout innings, giving up five runs and striking out nine." And Jazzytrav, see the posts above, the Crew is getting preempted by the Bucks tonight and Monday so no you won't get it tonight now matter what TV serrvice you have. That is unless you live in Milwaukee and get WMLW
  23. The same thing is going to happen Monday night, as the Bucks are playing again. The Bucks last game is next Wednesday, so we should be in the clear after that
  24. The game is not on FSN Wisconsin tonight, it is being bumped for the Bucks game. The game on Monday is also not being shown on FSN Wisconsin due to a Bucks game. Once the Bucks season is over, all WMLW games should be simulcast with FSN Wisconsin. So I will be listening to Ueck tonight as I don't get WMLW up in FDL
