  1. I forgot how incredibly team friendly that Lucroy deal really is. While it would be tough to part with him; the haul you could get for a 28 year old complete catcher in his prime making less than $5 Million through 2017 would be absolutely massive. Trading just Gomez and Lucroy could dramatically turn around this franchise in perhaps a fairly short amount of time if Doug can get some prospects at AA or higher. I wouldn't trade them just to trade them; but the Brewers could have the two most coveted players on the trade market this year.
  2. I see the dumb base running mistakes continued after RR got fired; I guess those sort of things happen no matter what manager we have. Go figure. I never would have guessed.
  3. This bagging on RR for starting Marcum in Game #6 is kind of annoying me. He was faced with 3 crappy options: 1. Start Marcum; 2. Start Gallardo on short rest after he got shelled the game prior; 3. Bullpen by committee. I am sorry but all 3 of those options sucked. Gallardo pitched like crap in Game #3 and always struggled against STL; Marcum was obviously struggling at the end of the year; and a bullpen by committee in Game #6 of the WS is never a good option either. Even with Marcum having a horrible start; the Brewers were down 5-4 after 2. Only after Narveson; who some apparently wanted to start the game; gave up 4 runs in the 3rd inning did things start to get out of hand. Even with Marcum starting the Brewers were still in a good position to win but the bullpen couldn't hold the Cards down
  4. Really didn't see the firing coming in the first place and then to hire Counsell who has 0 past management experience is also really out of the box. Weird timing considering the Brewers were finally starting to play better but I guess it probably was inevitable so you get it over with. The replacement is what gets me; I don't really understand it. Melvin must have just loved him in his front office role and probably was considering this for a while
  5. Calligraphy is so weird. I can barely even remember how to use cursive writing with some letters. Computers are great.
  6. I see Bobby Portis being mocked to the Bucks a lot. He is a good rebounder and has an improving offensive game. He would be a nice complement to Henson but admittedly I don't know how good his defense is. If I were the Bucks I might be inclined to trade up in the draft if there is someone they really love that they think is the missing piece
  7. I think resigning Middleton is a must. To me the core of this team going forward is MCW, Middleton, Giannis, Parker, and Henson. They need to get a shooter in the draft; a hybrid PG/SG type. I kinda like Henson at the C but I don't know if he can hold up over the entire year. They need to draft or sign a big body bruiser type like Zaza. The turnaround this team has gone through in only one year while not signing any FA stars is rather incredible. Just imagine if Parker was still playing right now. I hope this doesn't turn out like the last time they were playing at the end. I can't remember the year but they traded for Salmons and went on a great run in the 2nd half and then lost in 7 to Atlanta. The Bucks were stupid and resigned Salmons and some other veterans and then they sucked again. Stick to the youth movement please.
  8. I actually watched this game instead of the Brewers. If MCW can consistently get to the rim like that it makes the Bucks a real good team. Henson kinda quietly has turned into a real solid player as well; hell of a rebounder. Considering what everyone expected going into the season I think virtually everyone is pretty excited about taking the Bulls to atleast 6. And this is without Parker
  9. Braun is sitting again today I am absolutely shocked that Ryan Braun has a lingering health issue that is causing him to miss games. Absolutely shocked. It is like the guy aged 10 years from 2011 to now. Braun needs to get a new workout regimen, better trainer, better nutrition, better something to get rid of all these nagging items that he constantly gets.
  10. The Brewers have 3 guys who are on incredible hot streaks to start the year in Coulter, Roache, and Arcia. Obviously this is very exciting and hopefully the beginning of a resurgence in the system. That being said Roache is obviously the start to look at with some hesitancy given his past performance. Arcia isn't going to keep hitting .400 + but everyone does expect him to perform very well. Coulter may not continue his SLG; but he probably is the best overall bat in the system. If Roache keeps hitting like this it is fantastic and the fact that his HR's are all opposite field makes me somewhat optimistic that his approach has improved. If he is still hitting like this at the end of May then perhaps my hopes will be higher. Brewers could have a glut of good major league OF's in 2-3 years in Coulter, Roache, Harrison, and Taylor to go along with Braun and Davis already in Milwaukee. If everything works out someone in that group is probably playing 1st.
  11. What do we know about Hobbs? Does he have any projectability? 14th round pick in 2013 and has put up good numbers everywhere he has pitches so far. I like that he is a lefty but he is also pretty small
  12. I wouldn't want to fire Melvin and hire some untested GM right now knowing that the decisions this new GM could make in the next 2 months could be franchise altering (Primarily trading guys). I don't think I could ever come up with enough faith in a rookie GM to be thrown into the fire like that. Perhaps their is a GM with some experience that could be had; but I have no idea who that would be. I would rather just stick with Melvin; he usually gets pretty good value on the trade market. If we aren't firing Melvin I don't think it pays to fire RR. To me it makes no difference if RR finishes out the season or some random fill in. Who the heck cares in a terrible season. If you need to clean house do it this offseason well before the winter meetings.
  13. Kind of a weird comment after he just hit 2 home runs yesterday. He has been striking out a lot; so has the entire team. No one could hit today; I never heard of the opposing pitcher but he has got really good numbers
  14. We are in NBA style tank mode here. Only 2 weeks into the season and we are making up injuries to Scooter and Lucroy in order to lose more games. My awesome guess for a lineup tonight 1. Segura 2. Parra 3. Braun 4. Lind 5. Davis 6 Ramirez 7. Maldonado 8. Gomez 9. Fiers Good news is our offense can't really get any worse than it already is. 6.
  15. Robin Yount - GM Paul Molitor - Manager Trevor Hoffman - Pitching Coach Craig Counsell - Hitting Coach In all seriousness though; if RR is canned at some point this year I think MA waits out the year before making a long term commitment. Of course the big elephant in the room is Melvin and I don't know that MA will do a complete 180 so quickly so soon after basically saying DM can make up the own terms of his extension. Brewers will probably do something stupid like fire Stan Kyles; because the 1st year hitting coach is totally the reason that everyone sucks.
  16. IDK; people talking about trading Lucroy are nuts. He obviously would bring back a nice haul; but he is the face of the franchise right now and an elite catcher. DM and MA would never trade him; especially considering that the cupboard is pretty bare in the minors in catching. Replacement level guys at best. Trading Lucroy would be essentially conceding to an Astros style rebuild and I think there is about a 1% chance of MA every agreeing to something like that. You can rebuild without having to trade everybody that has value. Lucroy, Segura, Arcia, Braun (We don't have a choice), Coulter, Taylor, Nelson, Fiers, and Peralta is still a decent core group of players if you can get some decent value for guys like Gomez, Lohse, Garza, Gennett, Krod, Broxton, etc.
  17. That rant is ridiculous on so many levels. He comes off looking like a major tool. Its the media's job to report; not to do the Reds bidding and only report the good stuff.
  18. Coulter, Arcia, and Medeiros have all started out very well. Gatewood seems to have shown improvement as well. Taylor and Harrison have started a bit slow but are coming on a bit. Even Roache is showing some signs. MILB box scores are a lot more fun to watch than MLB right now.
  19. When none of your top 4 hitters are OPS'ing more than 700 and a couple are under .500 you know you are in a terrible slump. The fact that Braun has 0 extra base hits and one stupid walk through the first 2 weeks of the season is absolutely mind boggling. The first 2 weeks have been about the biggest disaster anyone could have expected and maybe even worse. The good news is that it is only 2 weeks. They need to get a series win under their belt and then start to chip away at .500
  20. Don't pay an additional $10 million to a washed up 3B. Don't pick up the option for the manager who oversaw a collapse of historic proportions or basically tell your GM that he has a job for life. Nobody paid the price for last year's collapse. Manager doesn't hesitate to bench a complimentary player a day or two for losing his cool after a bad AB like he did with Gennett, but does he ever bench a star/former star who makes a bonehead decision on the bases or in the field or who is frequently taking swings at pitches a foot off the plate? You also had a manager who had the team in first place for the entire year until the offense just decided to suck incredibly bad. What was he supposed to do. Ramirez I don't know about, obviously the guy is old but he is also a notoriously slow starter so I am not willing to bury him yet. Its not like DM felt he had any other good options; Rogers would be up playing if DM or anyone else thought he could actually be competent. And like has been noted before; he actually compared pretty well to other 3rd basemen last year. Benching your stars for making boneheaded plays doesn't do anyone any good since the players playing instead of them are vastly inferior. Bench them if they don't hustle or look like they don't care; don't bench them if they make a mistake.
  21. How exactly are they suppose to hold people accountable? Bench them for who? Fire the new hitting coach after 2 weeks? Fire the head coach after 2 weeks? Demote 5 guys to AAA? The players need to get their crap together and start playing. Maybe there isn't strong enough leadership from the players. There aren't any Trevor Hoffmans around here.
  22. Who has a better arm; Juan Pierre or Khris Davis? Davis can actually make some pretty good plays and generally takes good routes but obviously can't throw a lick and every once in a while seems to have concentration lapses.
  23. It is still really early but jeez this pathetic offense is reminding me of September 2014 all over again. Basically everyone is not hitting at the same time.
  24. I think odds are pretty good Gomez is going on the DL if they sent him to Milwaukee today. Parra is a fine corner OF with a good arm; but can he cover CF for an extended period of time. Would be really nice to see Lucroy, Braun, and Ramirez driving the ball a bit more. Starting to get hits but not really with any authority.
  25. That argument can go around in circles forever. No one here can prove one way or another what happens in the locker room and what instructions RR gives if any. Regarding Gomez everyone has heard anecdotal evidence in the past of other coaches trying to reign him in with less than desirable effects. I don't think you can control his aggression in one area of his game without negatively affecting other parts of this game. The guy has one speed and plays with reckless abandon in all phases. Of course this is my opinion; but it seems like the current hyper aggressive Gomez brings out much more positives than negatives. Probably the biggest reason he makes the mistakes he does on the base paths and in the field is that he is extremely confident in his abilities. He thinks he can take that base every time and there is nothing the other team can do. He thinks he can throw a bead to 3rd and get a guy instead of hitting the cut off man. Obviously some times those decisions don't work out and everyone criticizes him for it. Maybe you can call not fundamentally sound or perhaps overconfidence. Frankly I don't really care; I gladly take the good with the bad.
