  1. UConn is recruiting Newman along with Stone; that's why they have been considered one of the favorites for a while. I am not sure what to make of that situation; ultimately I think both guys go where they feel the most comfortable. UConn has a great track record getting big men drafted into the NBA; but really with Stone's talent he should get drafted pretty high no matter where he plays his college ball. Its not like UW is a slouch program or anything.
  2. 4/65 for Headley sounds ridiculous to me. You don't pay that much for a supposed OBP guy that plays good defense. Maybe a $10 Million annual value tops.
  3. Aram would be a pretty good fit to re-sign in my opinion. Given his production he will be pretty cheap. I would rather they bring back Aram than have to sign a different 3B for 3+ years and likely a higher annual value. Aram is certainly old; but I think he still has some gas left in the tank and is probably the Brewers best option.
  4. Diamond Stone trimmed his list to 4 by taking out Duke. So it is down to UW, UConn, Maryland, or OK State. I just can't see him going to Maryland or OK State. That would just seem so random. UConn historically does pretty well with the big men and obviously they were right there in the Final 4 with UW last year. It looks like a pretty tough call. Adding Diamond Stone to next year's UW team would probably instantly make that team a title contender again; even though they will be losing Kaminsky, Jackson, and Gasser. Stone, Koenigs, Hayes, and Dekker would still be a very strong top 4.
  5. The one area KC has a big advantage over MIL is definitely the bullpen; but bullpens are such a crapshoot you really don't know year to year if you will be any good. I mean I wouldn't consider Detroit's bullpen bad; they just picked a bad time to suck. KC is just playing really good ball in all phases of the game at the absolute best time. I don't think anyone really considers them to be the best team in the AL.
  6. The Royals also have arguably 3-4 starting pitchers that are better than anyone on the Brewers. So, there's that... IDK; that seems pretty arguable to me.
  7. What the Royals are doing this year is just solidifying what most baseball teams think. Even if you think you have a mediocre team you don't hold a fire sale. All you have to do is get in and you never know. Mark A and Doug M likely think that if the Royals can do it this year why not the Brewers next year? Its not like most would consider the Royals any more talented than the Brewers. With the 2nd wildcard there are really a very limited number of teams that know they have no shot to make the playoffs. Obviously the end of the year sucked for the Brewers but they were close enough to the playoffs that I don't think DM or MA will consider for even a second making trades this offseason that would weaken the big league team (Presumably to improve the farm). Whether you like it or not the 2nd wild card is a huge incentive to teams to try to fill in a missing piece here or there and not do an NBA style tank and rebuild strategy. The Brewers wouldn't go that extreme but trading someone like Gomez or Lohse would almost certainly end up weakening the MLB team and I extremely doubt DM would consider doing that.
  8. What is kind of depressing with this great run KC is on is that their talent alone is pretty close to the Brewers; they don't really have a superstar on that team at all and many of their position players are pretty darn mediocre. However they have caught lightning in a bottle and are playing their best baseball of the year at the right time. I just wish that could have happened to the Brewers in our recent playoff runs. Even in 2011 I didn't think we were playing all that well.
  9. Gomez would seem like an unfillable hole to me; at least for next year. As for Lohse I don't think you could get good value for him in any trade. He has been great to us for any other team he is just an old guy with only one year left on his deal. You might as well keep him. And personally I don't think you make the decision to "sell off" or whatever you want to call it based upon the talent within your division. You do it based upon the talent of your own team. So many things can happen with other teams that are completely out of your control that it would be foolish to sell just because the Pirates, Cardinals, Cubs, etc would appear to have a better core group of players. Injuries happen, trades happen, underperformance happens. I think this argument is probably a mute point though; because everyone and their mom knows the Brewers plan on competing next year and MA and DM will make moves this offseason to do that. It happens every year. The only time DM or MA will be willing to trade off guys is like 2013 when it was a bad year at the trade deadline.
  10. You are afraid that the owner and GM feel and want to compete in 2015? The alternative being the trade everyone and we suck for 4-5 years like the Cubs/Astros? I like the strategy of trying to fill in a piece or two every year and hope for the best instead of tanking and hoping top picks and prospects actually amount to something. If the team didn't have a lot of talented players that's one thing; but they certainly do have a good core group.
  11. Eh; Melvin was all in that offseason. If it wouldn't have been Grienke it would have been someone else. I am still happy how everything turned out.
  12. Big get for Marquette; Wojo certainly has started his recruiting off with a bang so far at Marquette. I am a UW first and foremost but I am very glad Marquette was able to keep a player like Henry in the state. They should be a dynamite team next year with Fischer, Wilson, and Ellenson among others. This year might be a struggle; but you can't really blame Wojo for the crappy roster Buzz left him with. They should still be OK I think. Hopefully Ellenson isn't a one and done player and sticks around for a couple years. I am guessing Stone won't make a decision for a while yet. Really hoping he goes to UW; supposedly it is between UConn and UW.
  13. The game wasn't on TV last night but the reports on the play of Sanders and Parker are encouraging. Of course the team also had 30 points at halftime. Even with improved talent from last year they probably will still struggle to score points; especially when they have to play a half court game.
  14. Trent Baalke; GM of the 49ers, attended Laconia High School in Rosendale. I grew up about 10 minutes from there but had absolutely no idea who the guy was until he hit the big time. Not sure what other major sport GM's and Head Coaches are from WI.
  15. You would think it is something other than basketball. To transfer out because of possible lack of playing time a full year before you are even eligible to play seems shortsighted. He must not have liked the coaching style.
  16. I think I want a more proven commodity for next year if I am the Brewers; because I am sure MA's goal is going to compete. I just don't think DM is going to be willing to take a flier on Van Slyke, Carp, Paulsen, etc. He is going to get someone that has done it before; even if that means it costs more in dollars or prospects.
  17. Everyone in America outside of St Louis and SF should be cheering for whoever comes out of the AL. A St Louis - Kansas City World Series would be awesome but only if St Louis gets defeated in humiliating fashion.
  18. The Cardinals are totally winning the World Series again. There is not really anything civilization can do to stop it.
  19. From a purely selfish point view meant to maximize my enjoyment watching the games on TV I want as much Parker, Giannis, Henson, and Sanders as possible. I am envisioning a fast paced high flying team with all those guys on the court; especially if they have a distributor like Marshall playing PG. Regardless of their win/loss record this year; they will almost certainly be far more enjoyable to watch.
  20. He did play the point a ton in the summer league; just the fact that Kidd had him doing that shows what his intentions are. Sure Giannis does not have the handles of a 6'3" PG; he simply can't keep the ball that low to the ground. But if he has a SF or PF attempting to guard him while he is playing point then that is a huge advantage. If they match up PG to Giannis than he will have a 1/2 foot height advantage on anyone guarding him. I see the potential for major matchup problems there; but Giannis does have to develop a ton yet.
  21. I am proud of myself. While I am not getting an iPhone I am finally ditching my flip phone for a smart phone this weekend. Now I am just getting a basic model under a prepaid plan but at least I will now have a 21st century phone
  22. If I were the Pirates I would even feel like I made the playoffs. You basically just played a "play in" game and got absolutely smoked. Its basically the equivalent of the opening round on Tue and Wed of the NCAA Bball tourney. Its over before it even begins. It also makes me feel better that I doubt the Brewers would have fared any better against Baumgarner. If we would have gotten hot and made the playoffs we would probably still be home right now and drafting a couple spots later next June.
  23. If Aram doesn't come back I think 3B gets filled via trade. Arod anyone
  24. You would think that guys like Sanders, Henson, Giannis, etc would really benefit for a really good passing PG. I like the idea of Knight at SG; but I don't know if that would work. Its questionable how effective Knight could be without the ball in his hands. Middleton would seem a better option as a pure shooting guard but it is pretty unlikely that Knight doesn't start.
  25. Maybe depth was the wrong word; they just have a lot of options for a starting lineup. Interchangeable parts so to speak. Giannis and Parker should really be the only locks for the starting rotation; after that you could pick from 6 or 7 guys.
