  1. Well it could theoretically be Upton or Heyward if you were to include Khris Davis in a deal. Probably pretty unlikely but if those are the guys they are trying to move I don't think it eliminates the Brewers; other than Gattis of course. I preference would be to trade Gallardo before Lohse but it is really a pretty close race between those two; and it all comes down to a potential return. You probably could get more for Gallardo than Lohse simply because of the age difference.
  2. I hate those moves for the Brewers
  3. If think if the Brewers are going to trade anyone it would be Gallardo. DM will keep Garza around since he has 2 years left and I think Lohse is simply better than Gallardo at this point. Now I have no idea what to expect back if we trade Gallardo and Quintana although it has got to be something decent. Braves don't have a whole lot of positional players to offer in a trade other than Kubitza that would be considered realistic. Kubitza would fill a huge organizational need and was at AA last year so he could step in for Aram in 2016 and provide injury insurance in 2015. Looks like he has more gap power than HR power. 24 years old and is a lefty; I would be on board with that. Gallardo + Quintana for Kubitza + reliever.
  4. I thought I read somewhere it was like a .26 which is just ridiculously high. If he had survived the crash and his GF didn't; he probably would be looking at a long prison sentence for that. Such a young kid to throw it all away like that. You have money; get a cab.
  5. I went to one of these post games concerts a number of years back; I think it was Randy Travis. I thought it sucked but that had more to do with it being Randy Travis than anything. I would guess maybe 10,000 or 15,000 people stuck around to watch it. I have no recollection on there year though.
  6. That didn't make a whole lot of sense to me either; also Parker barely played in the 2nd half. I hope that was injury related. Dudley, Ersan, and Bayless are getting way to many minutes and taking away from guys like Middleton, Parker, and Henson. Dudley has brought next to nothing so far this year. Dudley getting minutes over Middleton doesn't make any sense to me unless there are some off court issues with Middleton. Can't complain too much about 4-4 right now; it looks like this team will not be in competition for a Top 5 pick this year. Giannis looks like he has really taken a step forward this year; he still struggles with his shot at times but he can get to the rim on anyone. Mayo has also been a pleasant surprise.
  7. There simply aren't too many Bumgarners in the world. I wouldn't consider Shields an ace but KC made it all the way. The Dodgers supposedly had 2 and that didn't do them any good. The playoffs are a crapshoot; it all depends who is playing well at the right time. Now having an ace during the regular season isn't a bad thing at all; but if you have to pay Scherzer say $25 Million that means you probably need to remove another $20 Million in salary which means Parra is gone and probably one or two of Gallardo, Lohse, Gomez, and Garza. I don't think it is worth getting rid of that much salary just to sign a pitcher that may only have 1 or 2 prime years left.
  8. I don't know what Venters health is like currently; but I would be willing to take a flier on him. Ondrusek has also been pretty good at time if I recall.
  9. Freedom Trophy? Really? Way to slam patriotism down everyone's throat B10. What about a Nebraska vs. Wisconsin matchup screams Freedom. Incredibly lame if you ask me. If they were hell-bent on creating a trophy for this non-rivalry they should have tied it to agriculture somehow; because that's about all that would make sense. The Paul Bunyan Ax is cool, creating new trophies out of nowhere that have no apparent connection to either school is just dumb.
  10. Does Lind qualify as the annual "Melvin pulls off transaction no one sees coming"? If not then Melvin will probably still surprise us with something this offseason, My guess would be a significant bullpen addition; perhaps someone that is making too much money somewhere else. Papelbon anyone? The lineup and rotation don't have a ton of holes right now; but if there is a way to upgrade any position I hope DM is looking into it. I am guessing 2 or 3 new bullpen faces as well as 1 or 2 super utility guys. I would guess at least one of the bullpen additions will be considered significant and will probably have some closing experience. If he can do that and also get Thornburg and Henderson healthy next year you could have a pretty deep pen.
  11. As much as I would love the Brewers to sign Shields or Max this year because clearly it would help us win in 2015; both those deals would probably be disasters long term. Its probably irrelevant because the Brewers will never be able to afford either.
  12. Apparently winter begins next Monday / Tuesday. Not a snow storm by any means but 3-4 inches is enough to usher in 5 months of misery.
  13. It looks like they batted about .333 with his top 21. That really doesn't sound all that bad; a lot of good players were on that list. Lucroy is the best of the bunch but Escobar, Cain, Lawrie, Scooter, Odorizzi, and Peralta is a pretty good haul out of a farm system.
  14. So he will have is mind made up before the Duke/UW game. I still think it comes down to UConn and UW. If his friend Newman ends up going to UConn I think that might push him that way. I will remain optimistic that he goes to UW but really the decision is up to him and I won't get all bent out of shape if he goes somewhere else. Badgers first game is a week from today; this is definitely the most I have ever been excited for a basketball season. It will be awfully tough for them to live up to expectations but they are almost certainly going to be very good. I wish I could get tickets tot he Duke/UW game. Two preseason all-American centers with Okafor vs. Kaminsky and two of the top 5 teams in the country. That should be a fantastic game and will be a great barometer for the team and Kaminsky specifically. I honestly can say I am a little surprised Dekker has been named to all these preseason teams. He was still pretty raw last year; he must have had a hell of a summer at all of those NBA prospect camps he went to. EDIT: I should try proofreading every once in a while
  15. You could probably pay yourself an "after tax" distribution. The distribution itself is not taxable; but it also isn't deducted from the net income you need to report on your personal return from the S Corp through the K-1. You would need to talk to an accountant to know the specific way to complete the transaction though.
  16. I wouldn't trust them either to be honest. There will be some decent arms coming back; but hardly anyone I would want in the 9th (Other than Krod or Broxton). I don't like going closer by committee either. I think bullpen guys really do like having defined roles.
  17. Gomez could get traded in July of 2015 if the season isn't going well; but I would give it a 5% chance of happening this offseason. With the 2nd wildcard very few teams are out of it the winter before so its understandable why Melvin or most other GM's who have decent teams wouldn't want to trade good producing and cheap MLB players for prospects. Melvin's unwillingness to trade established player isn't unique to him. That 2nd wildcard has made it a lot harder to justify trading good assets and I can't necessarily disagree with Melvin or other GM's for not wanting to trade guys.
  18. Dudley and Ersan have both been pretty awful. Giannis has played pretty well the last couple of games; I would get him in the starting line up over Ersan. If Kidd likes Giannis off the bench I would rather he start Mayo than Ersan or Dudley. Parker seems to be struggling with his shot a bit and is rushing things around the basket. Hopefully he starts to settle down a bit. The Bucks have been competitive in every game so far this year; something that definitely could not be said last year. There biggest weaknesses appear to be turnovers and rebounding. Based on what I have seen they will be in contention for a low playoff seed. The Eastern Conference is still pretty terrible.
  19. Nice win last night albeit against a pretty depleted Pacers team. They will probably get blasted by the Bulls tonight though
  20. If you were there only 7 months then it makes sense; they were likely just taking their money back because you weren't there long enough. It does suck but I am sure the company had some sort of vesting policy. For my company it took a full 5 years to fully vest.
  21. If you were fully vested at the time you left it doesn't make any sense that your employer could do that; I mean its your money. As far as I know nothing like that applies to my 401K but now I will have to check into that.
  22. While I like the trade and it should help the team; it probably makes the rest of the offseason kind of boring. The Brewers have already filled their two biggest needs before the Winter Meetings are even close to starting. Yeah DM will probably pick up some relievers and utility guys but it is always fun to speculate on big blockbuster type deals. That probably isn't happening this year so it will be a whole lot of boring until next February comes.
  23. I can't imagine the Brewers going in with a $107 Million payroll; that has to leave them with little to no flexibility. Broxton, Gallardo/Lohse, and Parra seem the most likely to get traded and reduce that number. The Brewers can probably support $107 Million; but MA and DM always want some in reserve at the deadline in case an opportunity comes up.
  24. The take away I for from those salaries are threefold: 1. Lucroy is ridiculously cheap; excluding pre arby and arby players he has got to be one of the best values in baseball 2. Its also kind of nuts Braun only makes $13 Million. The guy easily could have signed a contract for $20 Million a year depending on when he did it 3. I agree that it seems hard to justify paying your 4th OF $6 million.
  25. He obviously had a really crappy 2nd half; but on a one year deal it is a reasonable gamble to take given the likely alternatives. Maybe his days of a 850-900 OPS are behind him but I would still gladly take a 750-800 OPS out of him again. Yes he probably will need some DL time but that is Melvin's job to plan for that. It just doesn't seem like there were any other sure bets out there on the market that could out produce Ramirez and would not have cost an arm and a leg. Rogers definitely seems like the logical guy to serve as the backup to 3B and 1B along with whatever other utility IF they break camp with.
