  1. No one here watches enough games of other teams to know if the Brewers are any more or less stupid on the base paths. Same reason every fan thinks their manager is the worst in baseball, etc, etc.
  2. It would probably be an automatic for DM to claim him; but someone else will surely get him first. No way he makes it through waivers. There are enough crappy teams that would be willing to take a flier on him and hope he rebounds.
  3. But basically every single 1st basemen that Brewers showed interest in last year has been a steaming pile of poo there. There was nothing out there unless Melvin traded or trades significant assets. The 1st base FA list for this coming offseason isn't any better. I am guessing someone on the Brewers will have to move to 1st or they will sign a FA 3B or OF and move them to first. There doesn't appear to be an answer in the near future in the minors either.
  4. I think this is probably the first and only deal of the day. It does fill a major bench hole and we didn't give up much so it is a solid deal.
  5. I don't really get this move from the A's perspective either unless they plan on trading for a bat now. But even for the Red Sox this move only makes sense if they make some moves in the offseason so they can compete next year. Otherwise getting Cespedes for only 1 year doesn't make sense. Red Sox probably aren't done. They are trying to trade Lackey and personally I would love to get Napoli some how.
  6. Eh it all depends what you have to give up. The Pirate would be stupid to give up any of their top prospects for a 10 start rental. With the Cards getting Masterson and perhaps the Pirates getting Lester perhaps that motivates DM more to make a move. It also removes two potential suitors for a different starter such as Price I suppose. I am sure the Cards could still get Price even after getting Masterson though.
  7. I would be curious to see who STL or PIT would have to give up for Lester. Brewers are probably unlikely to get Lester; both of the other teams have good prospects they can ship off and still be left with really strong systems. We don't really have that luxury. If they would bite for our 1st round comp pick and Coulter I would do it. Its not a good situation to be in for PIT, STL, and MIL if they really are all bidding against each other; someone is probably going to overpay.
  8. I am sorry but there is almost no chance at all that Melvin trades for Price and then trades him this Winter. I don't think I am going out on a limb in saying he will never do that. If the Brewers suck in 2015 then maybe he unloads him at the trading deadline but Price is the opening day starter in 2015 if DM gets him in the next 2 days. With Price in the fold there would be no reason to expect anything other than a really good Brewers team in 2015 and Melvin isn't going to trade any MLB assets if that is the case. I still think it is pretty darn unlikely the Brewers end up with Price. Sure it could happen but I am not getting my hopes up.
  9. I would propose Napoli and Lester for Lopez, Haniger, Thornburg and one of Coulter/Arcia/Taylor Significantly improves this years team while not completing gutting the system either
  10. Hamels is also apparently available; he is signed for 4 more years so parting with Nelson wouldn't be a huge deal there. But his salary isn't cheap and he would cost even more than Price most likely. At least DM has some choices for the big splash he makes this year:)
  11. But if you can include Zobrist from Tampa as part of the return? That's the only way I could see DM parting with Gennett.
  12. If they want Gennett then I think Zobrist would need to be added to the deal. He has a team option for 2015 at $7.5 Million and is having a pretty solid year and plays quite a bit of 2nd base. But if you want to do that it probably gets even more expensive for the Crew in terms of prospects. We would need to get a 2nd basemen in here if we trade Gennett because you can't have Weeks playing there everyday. Probably like Nelson, Coulter, Gennett, and Thornburg for Price and Zobrist.
  13. Isn't a Price contract extension going to need to be like 7/150 or something like that? DM would probably give him the CC Sabathia special (5/100) and Price will politely consider it for like 5 minutes. A lot of big market teams have gotten bitten recently by huge long term contracts to pitchers so maybe that monster 7 year deal never happens again but I would give the Brewers about a 1% chance of resigning or extending Price. If Price has gotten this close to FA I am pretty sure he will want to test the market. Perhaps a better trade target would be Lester; he is only signed through this year but he is also very talented and wouldn't require nearly the same haul in prospects as Price. You would think Lester could be had without giving up Nelson.
  14. Its basically Tampa Bay' MO to trade guys and get something for them before they hit FA. They could get more for him know then they could in the offseason just because there will be 3 or 4 teams that think Price is going to win them the pennant. I definitely think he gets traded. Melvin has done this 3 times before (Grienke, Sabathia, and Marcum) so it would be dumb to discount this rumor; but at least as of right now we are competing with teams that have more trading chips to work with. If we had a stud pitching prospect to look forward to in 2016 it might be different but as or right now we really don't unless Williams or Lopez really take a step forward soon. Lopez is getting there I think. That's the main reason I want to hang on to Nelson. If we could Jorge Lopez instead and make it a Lopez, Thornburg, and Coulter package (Plus maybe another guy in our 10-20 range) I would definitely do it
  15. I would rather keep Nelson myself as explained in the posts above BUT just as a counter argument we could have some very appealing trading chips in the 2015 offseason if Taylor and Arcia continue to progress. Those two as well as Segura, Khris Davis, even Gomez could be dangled for needed starting pitching. Melvin would also probably have a lot of salary flexibility to sign a SP as well if Gallardo, Lohse, Price, and Ramirez are all off the books by then. If Nelson is mandatory I think Coulter is the guy I would want to trade out of the next tier (Coulter, Arcia, and Taylor) but everyone's opinion might be different on that. Coulter is definitely the power bat out of that group; but the other guys appear to possess more tools than Coulter.
  16. The Crew can absolutely afford Price's monster arby salary next year but I would still be concerned about giving up Nelson. By the end of 2015 we would probably have to replace 3/5ths of our rotation and unless someone really starts developing in MILB no prospects to replace them with. I sure as hell wouldn't be interested in extending Gallardo or Lohse either. We would have less a chance of extending or resigning Price than we did with Sabathia. I know a lot can change before we would need SP reinforcements in 2016; but the lack of upper tier SP in MILB would make ne nervous about trading Nelson. And unless they tank in 2015 which probably isn't likely its not like we are going to trade Price to improve that system either.
  17. If getting Price means we have to trade our top 3 or 4 guys in the system I really don't want to do it. Yes Price is awesome and would be a huge boost to the team; but man our minor league system would suck so bad. Every single one of our good prospects wouldn't be any higher than WI next year.
  18. Really solid overall showing for the top prospects yesterday. Arcia, Taylor, and Coulter had really strong days. Kodi had a strong 2 innings in Maryvale and Gatewood has started showing some signs of life too.
  19. Don't get me wrong; I don't care if we do this and I will certainly check out the thread for cool pictures. I just reserve the right to come back here and say "I Told you so" when we implode . Trust me I don't really believe in jinxes or anything; it just seems premature to start this before August 1st even hits.
  20. No doubt; I would absolutely take Napoli in a heart beat depending on the price. However I can't see us acquiring Napoli without giving up someone in the "Big 4" (Nelson, Arcia, Taylor, and Coulter) or one of our high 2014 draft picks (If that is even allowed). They can take 3 of Devin Williams, Victor Roache, Mitch Haniger, Michael Reed, Taylor Jungmann, Tyler Cravy, Tyler Wagner, or Jed Bradley. I would be torn on parting with Jorge Lopez right now.
  21. This is some bad juju if you ask me. Its a 3 game lead with 60 games to go.
  22. It seems really weird for an entire article to come out about a player's "Down Power Season" when said player is Top 10 in OPS and Top 5 (?) in SLG in the National League. I mean a really good 2nd half could put Braun in the running for an MVP; not that he will actually ever win one again.
  23. LAD is the obvious team that really scares you from a 1/2 perspective. BUT if you get them at home it might be entirely different. I don't think we would be overmatched in a 5 or 7 game series against most of the NL; but against the Dodgers you probably need to win two games against Kershaw and Grienke in a 7 game series. That will be pretty tough; just hope you have home field advantage in that series.
