  1. Maybe I was a bit over dramatic in my assessment. The only thing that was bugging me is how much the minor league system has been railed on when it has produced 4 key players on this years team that are all producing. I certainly don't think the system is by any means good but it has done a good job at what the Brewers needed it to do. Fill in some holes with league average or perhaps slightly above average players. While it would be nice if we could add a star; the system has at least been good enough to supplement the good talent already at the MLB level.
  2. Sadly even if this guy isn't a great shooter; he is probably still better than some of the guards for Marquette going into next year. He is going to be a contributor and get a lot of minutes; that's the only reason he would have come to Marq; Wojo hed to have told him as much
  3. Even without Garza either Thornburg or Nelson is probably in the rotation. I think we would certainly be a better team at this point given the performances of Abreu, Garza, Thornburg, and Nelson (Obviously not considering performances could be different if things didn't turn out the way they did)
  4. Well that was my first game yesterday; of course I would go to the game with the worst lineup and worst performance of the year. Plus our group of 7 (5 tickets + two infants) were in the outfield bleachers and were constantly squeezed in our seats by some rather large individuals. Eventually we said screw it and just walked around the park for 5 innings.
  5. I know it is early but seeing a 5.5 game lead in the division is pretty nice. Plus we are already up 7 on CIN and 8.5 in PITT Even though this season is going great; I fully expect to go down to STL next week and get spanked again Hoping for that not to be correct. Brewers prove me wrong
  6. Going to my first game of the year tomorrow. At least our B lineup still looks better than the Cubs. Unless Braun or Segura go on the DL tonight that is an extremely short bench tomorrow. Yikes. Might need to have a couple pitchers ready for action as fielders or hitters
  7. Marquette gets a nice pick up for 2014 in Carlino; formerly of BYU. He should step in right away and be a go to shooter. Marquette needs big guys a lot more than a G; but he is a quality player that should help
  8. The Brewers minor league system in the last 2 years have proven to be underrated if they have produced: Peralta - One of the best pitchers period since the All Star Break Thornburg - A dominant reliever with a very real chance to be an above average starter Nelson - Very solid potential. You can't tell me there are 20 better SP prospects in the minors than this guy Khris Davis - slow start but capable of being a competent every day player Gennett - has been great thus far; everyday player Those are all just guys the minors have produced for us recently; there is plenty of high upside talent in the lower levels as well. I think most teams would be pretty frickin happy with the production the Brewers have been getting from 1st and 2nd year guys. Not a single one of the guys contributing in Milwaukee right now (Or Nelson) have ever been rated for crap by any of the publications yet here they are doing pretty darn well. Perhaps the biggest issue to start 2014 is the underwhelming performance of the position players outside of Coulter. That should be a concern but you don't want to write anyone off after 3 weeks. Plus it isn't like the MLB club is going to be in need of a lot of offensive talent from the minors in the next couple of years. We need a 3rd and 1st basemen; everyone else is pretty much set for a while.
  9. Its mostly Neuhaus and Williams for me. I just can't get excited about any of the foreign players until they prove something beyond rookie ball. Really hoping for something out of Neuhas considering he is a 3rd base prospect that we desperately need. He did not start off well last year; basically displayed no power at all and carried an OBP barely over 300. Hoping for much better things. Williams was pretty solid last year except for the walks. Over 10 K/9 and allowed less than a hit an inning. But he needs to vastly improve on the 5.7 BB/9 rate.
  10. The only reason I prefer Miller Park is because I am an out of towner and simply don't know the downtown that well and where the best places to park are. It is just so simple to get to Miller Park and park. The few times I go to the BC for concerts and whatnot it seems to take a long time to get out of there after due to traffic congestion.
  11. After the first three weeks of the season the Brewers still have 4 relievers with an ERA under 1.0 if you include Kintzler. 4 of the 5 starting pitchers have an ERA less than 2.70. 5 of our regular starting lineup have an OPS above .790 Fun with early season numbers
  12. Most articles I have seen are "Well everyone is doing it Pineda was just to obvious about it" and are more or less letting him off the hook as a moron. Pine Tar and PED's are obviously not the same thing but they are both ways of cheating
  13. Or you know Lucroy could just not try and steal because he is slow. People are acting like RR is telling these guys they HAVE to run.
  14. Well I doubt RR is actually telling him to run; he probably just is telling him he can if he wants. Now is probably the time to tell him he can't.
  15. Lucroy should probably stop running now; RR just give him the red light.
  16. If we would have paid Morneau, not signed Garza, and put Thornburg in the rotation we are probably a better team than what we are now. That being said Morneau still would have been a risk and still needs to demonstrate he can stay healthy. But so far so good for him in Colorado. Of course who knows how Thornburg would be pitching if he were a starter and not a reliever. No guaranty he wouldn't be struggling.
  17. Thanks. I imagine if he was a big lefty like that and had some horsepower behind the fastball we would have heard about him already. You never know; sometimes everything just clicks and guys with marginal stuff can turn into really good pitchers. I suppose his early season performance will get more scouts looking at him; so perhaps us fans won't be clueless on this guy for too much longer.
  18. Well he immediately gave up a single and they took him out. What a fantastic game and start to the season for Suter. I guess he is another must follow on the link report form now on
  19. Does anyone have a scouting report on Suter? I see he is a tall and lanky left hander. Is he worth getting excited about; is his stuff good enough? He is off to a sensational start this year and I know absolutely nothing about him. He was not even on the radar coming into this year as far as I can tell
  20. It all depends on how much. I mean if they can get them the money they need through a TIF District that should seem pretty palatable. If they need to do some county wide tax or fee then it gets a lot more difficult. I still don't think I am a big fan building the new arena downtown again but it sure seems like that is inevitable. The biggest reason I love Miller Park so much is that it is so easy to get to and the parking is a breeze.
  21. I should have known better than to stay up for this one. Brewers deserve to lose when Braun, Reynolds, and Segura go 0-3 with a man at 3rd and less than 2 outs. They just couldn't come up with the big hit or even a simple sac fly or ground ball when they needed to. On the plus side the pitching continues to be fantastic. Even Figaro, minus the gopher ball, looked really good and was blowing hitters away.
  22. Hindsight is 20/20 when we are talking about guys like Morneau, Morse, Liriano, Burnett, etc. There were plenty of red flags at the time those guys were signed. Of course I wish the Brewers could have gotten them now; but 29 other teams weren't too excited about them either Suppan was an obvious mistake; the Weeks contract in hindsight as dumb, 1st base is a black hole. However I think Melvin has overall done a really good job keeping this team competitive almost every year since the "core" players starting emerging in 2007.
  23. Jeez now Segura is hitting 8th? Makes sense though; I want the bigger power guys in Davis and Reynolds hitting with RISP. If Segura can get on base it could be a nice catalyst once the lineup turns over to Gomez again. I suppose it is a nice problem to have if a player as talented as him is hitting 8th; even if he is struggling a bit to start the year.
