  1. I believe I saw a TH blog post that said he had been pulled from the game and was on his way to Milwaukee. That would suck, as our next game is in Houston. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. The Saint Looey Youngster has requested a signed photo, a Gamel bat, a Braun signed bat, a Fielder signed bat, and he wants to view Weeks' surgery this week from the gallery.
  3. FWIW, I absolutely love that patch...in fact, it's the background on my computer at work. A good way to honor the state in a subtle way, kind of like what the O's are doing with their Maryland state flag patch this year. Also one of the reasons I want to buy the alternate blue jersey.
  4. I look forward to reading next Friday's edition of "Deadspin Deleted Scenes"...wouldn't be surprised if this leads to a hilarious email exchange between HY and Daulerio, re: taking down the post.
  5. Yes...and Boras is considered by many to be an evil pompous jerk, while DM is generally thought of as a pretty swell guy. This only reinforces the point I was trying to make.
  6. Mr. Madison, please choose a topic. I choose....business ETHICS! http://thumbnails.hulu.com/9/46/26294_512x288_generated__0MyptCNgkUWqRsyhK687AA.jpg As Brewers fans, I'm sure we've all noticed how Doug Melvin has been able to cultivate good working relationships with GM's around the league and many are eager to trade with him. That's because DM understands how to construct a deal that is fair for both sides and makes both teams better. He's not always out to "win" the trade. There's a lesson there.
  7. Anyone ever see that movie "8MM" with Nicolas Cage? I suddenly feel a lot like Cage's character after reading all of this stuff about "ballhawking" (particularly, Zack Hample's blog)...I've been sucked into a seedy, underground world that I didn't know existed, and each step I take leaves me a little more disgusted.
  8. Having heard the Jenkins story before, I cringed when I saw this guy's name mentioned in the "Fan Hall of Fame" thread a few weeks ago. Un-freaking-believable.
  9. When did Braun hit a walk-off against the Cubs? I can't seem to remember nor find it. Maybe you are talking about the walkoff fielder's choice? In that case, I totally agree. Mow em down in the 9th Trevor is definitely more exciting. I believe that what twobrewers is saying is that games like last Friday's (Braun hits HR in bottom of 8th, Hoffman comes in to slam the door shut) will be more exciting to watch than a walk-off hit in the bottom of the 9th.
  10. I hadn't viewed the group page in a while...pretty cool to see that Trenni joined up. I stopped short of casting out the friend request, though...don't want to be a creeper http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. Only one solution...we need to hire some Bad Dudes. http://analogmedium.com/blog/2009/02/NES-bad-dudes.gif
  12. But why in the world would he even be upset about the trade? It's not like LaPorta grew up in Wisconsin as a lifelong Brewers fan and had his dream of playing for his favorite team taken away. His goal was to get called up to The Show - this was equally likely to happen in Milwaukee or Cleveland as long as he raked in the minors. If he were traded to an organization where his progress was blocked, it would be a different story, but playing for an AL franchise actually helps him because of the designated hitter.
  13. I believe it was Huntsville GM Buck Rogers that made his dislike of LaPorta public citing numerous examples from pictures to jerseys that Matt wouldn't sign, for a variety events. edit. I overstated it a bit, it was just jerseys, from Buck's top 10 list this offseason. If this was my name, I would totally name my kid "Cobra". Sure sounds like LaPorta has a good perspective on life. I mean, why waste valuable ink to help some sick kids? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  14. This summer, from Attanasio Pictures/Melvin Entertainment: Sometimes, you have to learn how to run before you learn how to walk... Zachary Ty Bryan stars in "Swinging Away: The Corey Hart Story" http://www.celebritywar.com/pictures/zachery-ty-bryan.jpg
  15. I'm getting tired of baseball managers who decree that none of their players will be allowed to wear facial hair (Don Money, I'm looking in your direction). Nobody ever confused a baseball field for a charm school. These are adults.
  16. Who should I blame for throwing 4 consecutive fastballs (all of them the same speed, per MLB.com) to Koyie Hill? Is it Kendall's fault or McClung's? Can I get a freaking off-speed pitch? Jeez...
  17. Also, I'll mention again that the money is guaranteed regardless of performance or injury (thanks, union!) If it were the NFL, where you can get cut at any point, it would be a different story.
  18. a) When you're talking about guaranteed $150 MM versus guaranteed $180 MM, the difference between the 2 contracts is essentially the difference between Tex buying a 14-karat solid gold yacht and a 24-karat solid gold yacht. With a sound investment strategy, the next 5 generations of Texeiras (at a bare minimum) are going to be obscenely wealthy. That's what bothers me the most. When you reach this level, it's basically Monopoly money, so why not show that you have some semblance of a soul....IF, in fact, you were the "Orioles fan" you claimed to be? b) It's a 7-year contract right? Does he honestly believe that the Orioles won't contend in the next 7 years, or is he just not planning on fulfilling the whole contract? Note: I may concede this point ONLY on the basis that they play in the AL East, which certainly affects things. But they have a decent core of young talent with Markakis, Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, et al, so a Wild Card run is not out of the question. Edit: changed # of years
  19. On ESPN a few minutes ago, the studio host said "The Rays traded Jason Hammel to the Rockies today" and I heard it as "The Rays traded Jason Hammel to Milwaukee today". For a moment there, I thought that Doug Melvin had acquired more bullpen help, which would help compensate for Riske's general suckiness so far. Disappointed.
  20. Good job by Pittsburgh, as I am a hater of all things vest. Cincinnati and Colorado could learn a thing or two from the Pirates.
  21. I've been using one of these for the past 9 months or so...as long as you have a cell phone signal, it will work anywhere. Speed is not as good as a cable modem (obviously), but it would be better than any dial-up option. Probably comparable to DSL. I was able to watch the NCAA tournament games on my laptop with no problem. Disclaimer: I've heard rumors that they limit monthly data access now (250 GB?), but I was grandfathered in on my plan. http://www.mobile-broadband-reviews.com/image-files/sierra_597_sprint_z1.jpg
  22. When Michael starts to hire additional salesmen, they should bring in the guy who played Marlo Stanfield.
  23. Companies pay for their brand to be associated with the World Series because people who don't watch baseball, like my grandmother, still know what the World Series is. The name has cachet. If Granny KegStand picks up a bag of potato chips that says, "Win $100,000 by watching the World Series on FOX!", she might pay more attention than if it says, "Win $100,000 by watching the MLB Championship Tournament Finals on FOX!" How much more attention? Hard to say...but if it sells more chips, it sells more chips.
  24. Other objectionable "World Champions": http://www.foxriverbnb.com/images/assets/DSC_2072-357.jpg http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/1435/artie2xm.jpg http://rlv.zcache.com/worlds_greatest_grandpa_hat-p14809351454138460533mr_400.jpg How dare they!
  25. Leadership involves making the correct decision not the popular one I agree completely. And, as Patrick425 mentioned, changing the name of the World Series would cause MLB to lose millions of dollars. Therefore, by doing so, Bud Selig would be exhibiting poor leadership.
