  1. I think Aoki could be the kind of spark plug this team desperately needs. http://natslose100.webs.com/marbles2.jpg
  2. Every day brings a new angle to the question: What if I was born 20 years later? Or 35. So is having herpes like having a tattoo these days? You don't even understand, man. Herpes is so "mainstream" now that the hipsters are practicing safe sex just to seem different! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Come on Al, you've been around here for awhile now. If a player doesn't put up a .800 OPS, he's automatically terrible.
  4. Now, I'm no parent, but why wouldn't you just make something up?
  5. OK...just know that I reserve the right to shower him with banana chips from the left-field bleachers.
  6. It's not so bad once you remember that we're only paying Aramis $6 million in 2012....so roughly 10 million for the combo. Seems to gel with our budget.
  7. Given the fact that he's a hillbilly racist, it would be hard for me to root for Scott.
  8. I can buy the idea that he was taking something to get over the leg injury, but that happened in early July. So why would he still be using during the playoffs? Especially with the stakes of failing a test being so high? It doesn't add up.
  9. OK, so if Braun was taking TRT, then the source who contacted Haudricourt to say it wasn't due to a PED would be telling a bald-faced lie. I'm not saying the source is credible (how would I know?), but just stating facts.
  10. For what it's worth, somebody asked Keith Law about Furcal 2/14 and his response was "solid". I think some people need to re-calibrate their perception of the market. Even his pedestrian .735 OPS with St. Louis was good for an OPS+ of 104, due to the fact that most shortstops are god-awful hitters. He also posted an excellent 400 AB sample in 2010. I don't think the Brewers were in a position to make this kind of offer because of their roster circumstances, but I also don't necessarily believe this was an overpay.
  11. I was of the opinion that we needed A-Ram's bat in the lineup before this news about Braun. But I guess that we could need an interim corner outfielder.
  12. Good news for everyone complaining about the K-Rod deal! We'll save $2 million on the 50 games that Braun misses! This is awful.
  13. This is the kind of thing that always perplexes me. I'm willing to admit that maybe its way over my head. How much has the value of the Milwaukee Brewers gone up since Mark A & crew bought the team? $50 million? $100 million? $150 million? Mark A is not losing money! Sorry, I should have been more clear....I was talking about the yearly operating profit for the ballclub in 2012. You're correct that the value of the team has skyrocketed and that Mark A. is not "losing money" in any sense.
  14. Do you really think that a guy who just inked a contract for a quarter of a billion dollars is going to need to sign autographs? An enormous house in Malibu is way cooler than an enormous house in the middle of Missouri.
  15. This is what I'm hoping for as well. With Pujols leaving STL and the Cubs in rebuilding mode, there may not be a better time to go after another division championship. We only retain rights to Greinke and Marcum for one more season. If you sign Furcal and Ramirez and they're able to squeeze out one more year of good health, and Gamel hits halfway decent, then you have an offense that is clearly better than anyone else + improved defense (Gamel > Fielder, Furcal >>>Yuni, A-Ram and McG are a wash) + a fine rotation + two great relievers in the back end of your bullpen. Also, the two teams I heard mentioned as suitors for Ramirez were LAA and MIL....the Angels just spent $250M on Pujols, which probably takes them out of the running. So we may be able to get him at a better price. Now, could Mark A. stand to lose $5-$10m next year to take one more big shot? We don't really know. But I'd be fine with going this route and then making significant budget cuts in 2013.
  16. One thing to consider: we're probably saving a couple million bucks in signing bonuses for the 2 draft picks that would have been awarded if K-Rod signed elsewhere. I realize that's not much of a silver lining, but every dollar counts.
  17. I'm happy that Santo will be honored, but does it bother anyone else that it was his passion to be a HOF'er? I think it's sad that these guys view it as necessary to validate their careers. It's not enough that you're beloved by millions of fans, people write books about you, you make a ton of cash (thinking of guys with broadcasting gigs like Santo and Blyleven)? I was annoyed to read tweets like this one by Keith Law: "Congratulations to the Veterans Committee on electing Ron Santo a year too late for it to really matter." So his enshrinement and remembrance in the annals of baseball history don't matter since he can't soak up the attention or profit from it? Ridiculous. (I realize that I shouldn't even bother getting upset at something Law wrote, since he's an ass.)
  18. In 2007, we gave Craig Counsell the exact same contract that Hairston just got. It covered his age 36 and 37 seasons....just like Jerry Hairston. http://milwaukee.brewers....p;fext=.jsp&c_id=mil
  19. Despite his arm not being the greatest...who's going to back up SS when our starter (whoever it ends up being) needs a day off? I don't think you can justify giving Counsell 2 yrs/5.6 million during his age 36 and 37 seasons and then balk at paying Hairston (a better offensive threat) slightly more money.
  20. Can someone explain to me how a Major League Baseball franchise doesn't have at least one guy scouting Japan? That seems ridiculous. Build a huge training camp in the D.R., but don't pay one guy to live in Tokyo and take notes?
  21. DAMN YOU DAGUMERUBIN! http://ramblinganicdotes.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/be-angry.jpg
  22. I plugged the text from the Sanspo link into Google Translate and here's the result. Some of it is high comedy. Note the following: Uni Esqui shortstop option Court - love it Hosereiesu (Jose Reyes) GM Dagumerubin (Doug Melvin) - this would be a good handle for someone joining Brewerfan Rickie Weeks forces are active - they sure are! Active military baseman http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Prince Fielder is a big gun
  23. Don't underestimate the number of petty idiots out there, and how many of them end up in Human Resources. (OK, that was a a bit of a cheap shot, but...)
  24. There's a significant difference between Wily Peralta/Michael Fiers and Mike Burns.
  25. Why? Mark Ellis and Jamey Carroll have already signed. Most of the names I've heard in transaction talk this week haven't been stars. I would expect Reyes and Rollins to drag out, but not Barmes.
