  2. Starting every batter you face with a 1-0 count can't help those odds. The guy is allergic to throwing strikes.
  3. Bill Hall - SS, 2B, 3B, CF....and pitcher.
  4. First thing that popped into my head when I read this post. Also a sign that I've been watching too much Adult Swim. http://i.cdn.turner.com/asfix/repository/8a25c39212e334eb0112e3f0f2fa00a4/promos-delocated-sample.jpg
  5. In a commercial for the recent "Three Stooges" film, I saw a nun fall off a rooftop...a fall that would certainly kill her in real life! These Hollywood producers must be stopped.
  6. His OPS was .577 in 58 PA's this season, so maybe he can. That was his SLG. His OPS is .922. That said, a look at his stats shows that this 58 PA's are a HUGE deviation from the norm. A .577 OPS would actually be right in line with expectations.
  7. That's just Ronnie being Ronnie.
  8. It also needs to be the right kind of roof. I went to a Twins-Mariners a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night...first time with the roof shut, the previous times I'd been to Safeco were sunny afternoons in the middle of summer. Safeco does not have the panels behind the outfield like we have a Miller Park, so while the roof kept us dry, we still had to deal with cold temps and wind coming into the park. Made me appreciate MP a lot more.
  9. As a current resident of Portland, I'd love to see one here. Driving 3 hrs. north to see a crappy Mariners team has lost its appeal.
  10. I'd rather start Santino Marella at shortstop. At least that would be entertaining.
  11. The strategy doesn't make much sense to me. If you were going to pound a guy inside, wouldn't it be someone with below-average or declining bat speed who wouldn't be able to catch up with the pitch? Braun doesn't really fit that description.
  12. Agreed. These athletes that went broke obviously didn't go to Wu-Tang Financial, because GZA would have told them to "diversify yo bonds".
  13. Not sure if it's been said here or in another thread, but he really needs to pick it up soon because if this slump extends, you know exactly the type of articles that are going to be written and that's just going to ratchet up the heat even more.
  14. Players' skills decline with age? Well, I'll be damned...
  15. George Marshall (redshirted this year) will be the PG in all likelihood. Traevon is bench depth.
  16. I'll be honest - I was taken aback by the Braves fans tonight. I figured that he would get the worst heckling in Chicago, STL, Cincy, and maybe Philly (because it's Philly). Didn't think fans in any of the other divisions would care this much. If somebody like Reyes or Kemp was in the same situation, I'd probably make some jokes at their expense but I definitely wouldn't have the same dislike that I do for players in the NL Central.
  17. They couldn't have made that more obvious. The ESPN cameras showed Braun yelling, "Nyjer!" right after his single, and nodding toward the 3rd base coach. Try a little secrecy next time, fellas.
  18. The 51 starts for Izturis estimate implies that the roster remains unchanged for the entire season, which is a bold assumption for April 4. This is part of the reason that I'm indifferent. That final roster spot is probably going to change hands several times based on injuries, ineffectiveness and the needs of the major league club.
  19. Ramirez and Gonzalez each played 149 games last year, and are presumably healthy right now, so I don't see how this move equates to "a lot of starts" for Izturis as monty alluded to above. In a freakish situation where both have to be removed from the game....well, we probably lose that game and then Conrad joins the team the next day. Big whoop, and unlikely to happen.
  20. Wow. All I could think of while reading that: http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc45/snesfreak/neogaf/south-park-stan-marsh-poop-cafeteria.jpg
  21. Once you accept that the BF.net community will only be happy if our manager is a cyborg constructed from Earl Weaver's brain, it's easier to just gloss over these threads. All managers do dumb things sometimes. I'm not going to defend the Kotsay decision, I hated it as much as the rest of you. Personally, I'm giving RR a long leash because he comes from the Scoscia coaching tree, the players responded to him and I feel like first-time MLB managers need some time to "grow into" the job, even if they've managed at other levels. Edit: not sure why I thought Weaver was dead. Really hurt my cyborg hypothetical.
  22. Could be the Beer Baron mixing up some illicit beverages in his basement.
  23. With regard to the HIPAA stuff, I did some Google research on the subject back when the Braun story first broke (because I assumed it was a violation as well)....basically what I found is that in cases like this, or with a drug test you might take when you are starting a new job, it's technically not covered by HIPAA because you are voluntarily offering the sample. It's treated differently than if you were seeking healthcare for your own purposes. Can't remember the specifics, but what I took away was that it's not something Braun could sue over.
  24. I'd rather sign Billy Gibbons to a minor league deal. At least he has a cool beard.
