Looking over the paperwork for the league, apparently I need to get player registration cards and payments in before the game tomorrow. Who'dda thunk.

    First game of the year! A little nervous we might not have 10 guys since I know Mike is out and I'm told Brent for sure won't be back for the first game. I know I heard from pretty much everyone at the scrimmage that they'd be able to make it, but let's start a roll call anyway. Maybe the only person I'll need to find out from is Happy.... 01 valpo 02

    Clearly, had Macha gone to our shutdown bullpen earlier, we would have won this game. Oof.

    I think every negative comment being made about Macha should be redirected to squarely at Melvin. I'm not sure what Macha is supposed to do. Melvin has assembled a starting rotation that can barely go 5 full innings. It's May 15th and our bullpen is already overworked. And what do we have, TWO reliable relievers? Every day can't be a routine of the starter getting yanked in the sixth with Villy and Coffey pitching the remaining four innings. We have starting pitchers who don't go deep and a bullpen that's overworked and not very good. It's not the end of the world if he lets a 29 year old pitcher go 130 pitches when the alternatives are so contrary to winning.

    Preposterous. Even if "10 games" just means 5 more wins, 5 less losses, you're still setting the bar at 20-15 or a .571 winning percentage. To say that the 2010 Brewers would be a 93 win team were it not for Ken Macha is to seriously over value the roster Doug Melvin has put together.

    I felt like Yost was over his head when he got the job, and even years later I still felt the same. The man just exuded vulnerability and incompetence, and his decision making was some of the most baffling, frustrating stuff I'd ever seen. Almost purposely contrarian. "It goes against all logic and common sense, but this'll show them that I'm a genius!" He just seemed really, really unintelligent and foolish. I feel the team is in better hands with Macha. Slow and patient, but at least I sense that there's a brain working under the surface and not just monkeys picking fleas off each other.

    If anyone hears from Happy, let me know. I've tried texting and PMing and haven't heard back. Not only would it be good to have him at the scrimmage, but I need a player registration card filled out. For the scrimmage, we should probably position ourselves as close as we can to where we'll be for game 1. How does this sound? Iron Chef - C Firenick - P ??? - 1B Valpo - 2B Tyler or Houlie- SS Razzzor or Mike - 3B Houlie or Tyler - LF Beeks - LC Nullbyte (if he's not playing for Stark) - RC ??? - RF Sounds like we have enough guys with people coming from other teams. Hope those players don't mind taking a backseat to those who are on the BF.net team, I'd like to bat them behind the regular BF.NET team and postition them just whereever we have holes in the field. EDIT: Mike is now out for the scrimmage, have cleared the 1B talk.

    Looks like Juddy will not be a regular this year, he left me a voicemail saying he just wouldn't be available enough to be on the team officially. Hopefully Brent is back, otherwise we could really be short-handed a lot. Without Brent it's now 11 regulars, meaning if more than two guys miss on a night we're at 9. (Luckily, it looks like we have a decent stock of reserves.)

    Quoted for truth. Yost was terrible at managing the bullpen and ALWAYS had superfluous relievers up and throwing for no good reason. It was one of my biggest pet peaves about him. Macha's use of the bullpen may not be genius, but it's no worse than Yost. Probably better. Revisionist history.

    Really? He's been pretty decent in the field for the last season or two (note: I'm not looking at any stats right now). On that play, it looked like Weeks thought Edmonds was calling him off or something. There was obviously some reason why Weeks didn't catch the ball - it's not like he dropped it, didn't see it, loafed, etc. He looked at Edmonds and pulled off the pursuit as if he was supposed to give way to the outfielder. Really. He has stone hands and a below average IQ out there. I think you're giving him way too much credit in rationalizing this latest gaffe.

    Anything and everything is open to suggestion. Here's my rough draft of probable positions and lineup to start the year. Thoughts? Depth Chart P firenick / valpo / radman / razzzor C iron chef / radman? / nullbyte / firenick 1B juddy? / happy? / ando? / brent? 2B valpo / nullbyte / happy? / razzzor 3B ando / razzzor / tyler / valpo SS houlie / tyler / razzzor / valpo LF brent? / tyler / beeks / razzzor LCF happy? / tyler / beeks / razzzor / brent / houlie RCF beeks / razzzor / nullbyte RF nullbyte / radman / iron chef / juddy Comments: 1B is a question mark until we see if Juddy is definitely in. I'm thinking of Brent as a question mark until we see him return for sure. Happy has talked about not playing OF anymore, but between Razzzor, Beeks, Tyler, Houlie, and probably Bremt we should be pretty deep there. Razzzor, don't think anything of the fact that you're not listed first at any of the positions, with your glove and the distance you're coming to play with us, you'll be out there -- there's just a buch of different positions to slot you. Same goes for your cousin. Lineup 1 Beeks 2 Happy 3 Houlie 4 Razzzor 5 Brent 6 Valpo 7 Tyler 8 Juddy 9 Nullbyte 10 Ando 11 Radman 12 Iron Chef 13 Firenick Btw, what are we going to do about keeping a scorebook? Current thought is to do it early afternoon and make it a double-header.
