Headed down to Nashville next week to visit the lady friend's family and it looks like I'll be making it to at least one Sounds game. Can't wait, something I've wanted to do for a while. I'll be seeing them take on the Omaha Royals next Friday, for sure. I don't follow the minors all that much, but I obviously know enough to keep an eye on Gamel. Looking at the Sounds roster page, strangely enough the names that jump out at me like Stern, Katin, Cruz, Dillard, DiFelice, etc are NOT found on the Power 50. Hmm. Guess I'm out of touch. So Farris, Lofgren, McClendon, and Kintzler are really the guys to watch, eh? Maybe I picked the wrong year for this. How about on the Omaha side? Any stud prospects over there?

*BUMP* We'll do it again this weekend. Friday or Saturday night, whatever works better for people. I thought Friday worked out well last time.

I've always wondered about how many superstar hockey players might be out there who never even laced up skates. Of all sports, it seems like hockey would have the greatest chance for undiscovered talent -- everyone kicks a ball, shoots hoops, throws a football, and swings a bat a handful of times growing up, but ice hockey is just so involved with equipment, prerequisite skills, and kids just aren't nearly as confronted with it. I think about this during the winter olympics all the time. I mean, if you had the skill of an olympic runner, you'd probably figure that out growing up, but it's quite likely you'd never know if you had some incredible god-given gift to be revolutionalize speed skating or curling or skiing or whatever. Same with auto racing. Unless you come from a racing family or something like that, you'd probably never be put in position to realize you're one of the best racecar drivers the world has ever seen.

If I were a closer, no doubt I'd come in to Helloween's speedy power metal gem "Save Us". Just bide my time in the bullpen during the opening launch sequence as the crowd ramps up, then sprint out to the mound Coffey-style once the the speedy riffs and double-bass get going. Hit the mound about the time the chorus starts up, "Pleeeease, save us! Pleeease saaave us." It would make Hells Bells look like Kumbaya. It would be the most awesome thing since awesome came to awesometown. In my dreams, at least. When I'm sleeping.

Yep I'm sure there are. Of course Rockies players are probably smart enough to realize the Brewers are closer to .500 in talent and shouldn't be an easy win every time out, the fans generally are pretty clueless and buy into W/L records like they mean a lot.. I've always wondered what opinion I should have when the Brewers are four games above .500 and they fail to sweep a 12-game below .500 team at home. Now I know!

Little shindig at my house, did this a couple years ago and it was a lot of fun. Set up the ol' SNES out on the back deck, drink lots of beer, grill food, and enjoy the gloriousness that is Griffey in the waning hours of a Milwaukee summer night. I'm thinking next weekend, Friday the 25th (7:00-ish), with a makeup date in case of inclement weather set for Saturday the 26th. I should have a second TV out on the deck, either for watching Brewers or whatever while we play, or in case someone wants to being a second SNES and another copy of Griffey. I'll provide some food and first few cases of beer, feel free to bring whatever you want. I usually have ample space for people to spend the night, but I'm getting my floors refinished in two bedrooms next week so there will be less options. Still, I have a spare twin bed in one room, futon in the basement, and couch in the living room if anyone needs/wants to stay. Or you can do like Radman did last time and just pass out on the living room floor.
