  1. Manfred will probably deem this punishment enough for the hacking scandal, and move on.
  2. So who won? Ha, not me unfortunately.
  3. Before the season, a buddy and I decided to wager a lunch based on an agreed-upon over/under of wins. Neither of us were as pessimistic as some who pegged them as a 100 loss team, so we established the over/under at 72.5 wins. It all came down to an extra innings scenario in game 162, so we may have been the most interested in that game as anyone.
  4. I'm pretty sure you are correct. The news story I heard on the radio said that as a condition of the sale, all remaining ownership of the Miller brands in the US needed to be sold off first.
  5. Although the previous $11M spent on the scoreboard isn't something that has much return on investment, I keep thinking that if you're going to shell out significantly more money than that it will be for a project designed to generate revenues. - I like the idea of a hotel & water park (is there a Dells-style water park in Milwaukee?), as it will still be a year-round destination. - Is there currently a "Milwaukee baseball Hall of Fame?" I know they have the Walk of Fame or whatever they call it, but borrowing some ideas from the Packers in what they did with their HOF & Atrium (restaurants, Pro Shop expansion, etc) may work in terms of creating a year-round source of revenue. I just wouldn't expect the same level of results because the two stadiums are vastly different in their broad appeal. Lambeau is up there with Fenway in terms of reverence and drawing people from around the world, so going as big as Lambeau's expansion wouldn't work.
  6. I guess but does that really help the organization? He's no longer working with amateur scouting and the draft which were his strengths and something we need to have our tops guys working on. The husband of one of my wife's friends was talking about his recent promotion a couple years ago. He said, "I was so good at being an engineer they gave me a promotion and are paying me more money to not be an engineer anymore." I mean I get it but I don't get why people who are very good at their jobs gets promoted to positions where they aren't doing what they are good at anymore. Seems counterproductive to me. One of Tom's tweets literally addresses this concern. They recognize his strong suit is player evaluation, so they want him to do more of it. They are giving him a promotion, but rather than pile on more administrative work they are expanding the scope of the players for him to evaluate.
  7. Is Gord Ash overseeing all of the affiliate locations, or is he charged specifically with just getting out of Colorado Springs?
  8. I prefer parking on Holmgren Way (I love just outside of De Pere on the East side) in the Ashwaubenon Public Safety lots. Usually $10 and they let you use their indoor restrooms which comes in very handy for late season Packer games. You're only 2 blocks from the scene at The Bar so maybe about 4 blocks away from Lambeau.
  9. 80 is the max, which is quite a difference from the 55 that Bowden reported. Most of what I've seen reported is classic Tebow. Off the charts athletic ability that doesn't translate to consistency on the field. I think his best athletic venue would be WWE. And I'm just partially joking. He's got the athletic ability to make it work, and should be able to work the mic with no issues. He'd make an incredible heel with potential to turn face.
  10. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/08/latest-on-rangers-jeremy-jeffress.html MLB has prevented the Rangers from activating Jeffress, as it seems they want to see the results of his blood tests since there is reason to believe drugs may also have been involved (there was a "green leafy substance" in a clear container in the vehicle). They can't suspend him for using marijuana, but it's possible that the MLB may be moving towards doling out suspensions if the situation is egregious enough. Was Gallardo suspended after his arrest? I seem to remember there being sort of a national discussion after Gallardo's arrest where it was pointed out that NFL players in similar situations would be suspended at least one game and notes that MLB has historically been silent on these types of off-field incidents.
  11. Does the 10 day rule still apply once we hit September 1st? As far as Arcia & Broxton, I can't see them sending down Broxton while he's red hot. And in either case, if you optioned them I would think they would recall either of them when the 10 days had past. If you leave Arcia or Broxton at home when the minor league season is over after already breaking the seal with Arcia, it's pretty clear the team is keeping him there for team control reasons.
  12. Another reason some players may get rid of stuff is they've seen what can happen to families after the patriarch passes away leaving their heirs to fight over the collectibles. Selling his memorabilia at this stage prevents all that, plus it prevents him from the agonizing decisions of which of his children/grandchildren receive which items. If he had donated the items to the Brewers or HOF, that could also lead to some angst from his heirs that these very valuable items were just given away. This way he converted the items to cash which he can spend/will as he pleases in an equitable way. Not saying this is the reason, but a plausible theory.
  13. And I'm pretty sure that Doug Davis (the other pitcher mentioned) was actually dealt to Arizona in the Estrada deal.
  14. When do Braun's 10/5 rights vest? Is it this offseason, next offseason, or sometime else? Because his no-trade clause becomes moot when he essentially earns the right to block any deal.
  15. Yeah, it's basically sending the message of "How dare you remind us of the thing we are trying to overlook because he can help us win games, and isn't that what's really important here?"
  16. I grew up on a dairy farm, and work in accounting for a private label dairy foods company headquartered in Wisconsin. I have no idea what a Master's Mark certification is, however.
  17. Well if you want to get ahead of the curve if you think he's destined for stardom, Tebow is selling baseball memorabilia ($125 for a signed baseball, and $175 for a signed bat). http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/08/15/tim-tebow-is-selling-autographed-baseballs-and-bats/
  18. Is it wrong for him to not want to play football if he can't be a QB? It's his life and his choice. Really simple concept. Where did I say it was wrong? And is it possible for you to comment on anything without condescending people with differing opinions? Frankly I'm tired of it.
  19. The sport choice to me is what is odd. He's sat out of the NFL for the past few seasons because he has insisted he is a QB only, despite having a skill set that would suggest he could transition to TE. The other thing that's odd is guys like Moeller and Gary Sheffield saying he is "legit" which some are using as evidence that they are essentially paid endorsers to try to land him a job.
  20. Prince is famously soft-spoken, but I would love for him to be a part of the Brewers organization in some capacity in the future. He will always be a Brewer in my mind. As far as Walk of Fame, I'd love a statue of something like this: http://www.prosportsblogging.com/psb/uploads/2012/01/fielder.jpg
  21. I'm not sure what prompted the decision to put him in Brevard. If you place him at Appleton, not only do you ease him in for a few weeks, but there would be plenty of interest in local fans wanting to see him play in person. I know that player development is obviously going to trump local fan interest in a prospect playing in Appleton, but it would have bee a cool way to showcase your prize from the 2016 draft.
  22. The PTBNL cannot be on the 25 man roster (not the same as "play a MLB game") at the time the trade was agreed upon. That immediately eliminates Gallo from consideration.
  23. Are we sure that Braun can even play 1B?
  24. If they make an appearance at any time on the MLB roster between now and the 6 month deadline, that player cannot be the PTBNL. Not sure about the 40 man rule. If they could be on the 40 man, I wonder if Texas would add Mendez to the expanded MLB roster in September to protect him.
  25. Because all of our guys other than Braun and Garza aren't on contracts that extend beyond this season, those two might be the only ones with attractive value that will slip through revocable waivers. And even then I'm not so sure that someone won't claim Braun.
