  1. I'm guessing that Nelson had already cleared waivers, and if he had not cleared waivers they would have pulled him back and the move not made. You can't revoke waivers at this point in the season. Outright waivers are irrevocable, we can't pull Nelson off of waivers. You are thinking about trade waivers. Nelson has not yet been outrighted Nelson was outrighted in 2006.
  2. "... calm, at peace. Passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack." That's why they all got Yosted.
  3. How can Joe Morgan be greater than anybody? Are you talking about height? I was referring to wisdom, although height would also work. They are about equal when it comes to intelligibility.
  4. And you should take that verbal "abuse" in your home ballpark because? It's big boy time. I'm not saying we should start fights, but every discussion doesn't have to end in a fight does it? Pearls.... Swine... Cub Fans... I feel like I'm past the part of my life when I feel like I need to get up in someone's face for being a dipwad. Hmm..... I would like to in fact test this by proposing a few mathematical inequalities. Chris Berman > Han Solo ESPN > The Force Joe Morgan > Yoda Roomba > R2D2 Snuggies > Emperor Palpatine's Cloak
  5. but FtJ is probably right that there is probably tons of awesome movies like this out there already. Indeed -- Check out Megalodon, Shark Attack 3.... It's awesome.
  6. This will probably be very similar to Snakes on a Plane. SoaP had Samuel Jackson -- This movie has Lorenzo Lamas. This movie is probably going to be like most movies shown currently being shown on Sci Fi channel -- Not that there is anything wrong with that. I'm also going to go ahead and assume its going to be a great success. There are just so many movies out there like this. If it had the marketing oomph a Samuel Jackson would bring, then perhaps.
  7. I think Brad Nelson is the last remaining OD roster dude to be hitless in MLB.
  8. Sorry, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. Cake is for dipwads. Is there a clear and accessible reason (for those of us who are not stat experts) why the batter in the worst batter in the 8th hole ends up producing more runs? I am not sure it is the "worst hitter" -- but the "pitcher" -- part of the impact is that relief pitchers rarely bat -- and I would guess that the 9th hole gets 4 ABs from pitchers in a game.
  9. can I provide commentary about pie in this thread Please... Please... Just do it in great detail and .... very.... slowly... but OPS undervalues walks and HRs. Kendall gets too many IBBs for a guy who sucks at baseball.
  10. Pie. Fantastic. I'm taking the over in any pie related wager.
  11. I was no longer interested in taking the bet, as it wasn't worth having my integrity questioned over it. I'm pretty sure no one is calling out your integrity. I'll be happy to simply provide the raw data throughout the season, without adding any additional commentary Fantastic.
  12. I wonder if we DFA him if he will clear waivers. He can refuse the assignment.
  13. OPS is more readily available and pretty much the predominant stat used to discuss players here on this forum, and is quite sufficient in the confines of a wager. We are talking about a pitcher outhitting a catcher -- OPS should be adequate to make that point. If you look at reply #7 -- Russ first mentioned the bet -- and used OPS to back his point -- after making that statement I felt like using another stat was just backtracking and hedging his bet. Frankly -- I think Russ would have won using OPS, probably pretty easily.
  14. Still, sitting in the bleachers for those games isn't really a family-appropriate experience either. I think most reasonable people expect that the bleachers are a PG-13 experience -- but we are talking about fights, verbal assaults, etc... not the random F-bomb when a player makes an error, or a pitcher walks in a run. I took my son to a game, and some drunk guy spilled a beer on him -- he immediately apologized and offered to buy me and my boy a couple of beers -- the boy was probably 8 at the time so we declined -- but the guy apologized probably a dozen times throughout the rest of the game, and then bought my son some popcorn, and I think an ice cream, and really tried to make amends -- and I was totally cool with that. I understand, some people are going to drink more than they should, but if they at least stay civil -- no problems with me. I just don't need to see fights, or even angry yelling at Cubs fans (or whoever). I have no expectations that the Cubs fans are going to behave -- inbreeding has probably eliminated that option -- I guess though I expect Brewer fans not to engage them, and I am disappointed when they do -- it takes two to tango, sticks and stones, etc...
  15. We also replaced Turnbow w/.....insert name __________. Turnbow only pitched 6 innings last year, and was gone before May -- he really wasn't a factor -- and the game that got him DFA'd -- (.2 IP 4H 4BB, 6ER) -- he entered the game down 8 runs. Julio has already had way more impact, for good or for bad.
  16. Though I think sticking to the family sections or springing for better seats might be wise, in some cases. I agree to a degree -- I think families should exercise some degree of sensibility -- however, it seems to me, that if families have to "stay home when the Cubs are in town", the wrong people are attending the games. Also, realistically -- 95% of sober fans are going to be annoyed with people that cannot control their drinking, it is not realistic or fair to paint families as the bad guys here. I drink at the games (usually one or two beers), but I can say with full confidence that I don't act like a drunken idiot. Amen. There certainly is a place where people can enjoy a beer or two without fist-fighting or yelling. The sad thing is, is that if things don't get under control -- beer sales will be restricted -- which is unfair to the large majority of fans. If you just want to get drunk and enjoy the "atmosphere", stay in the parking lot. Couldn't agree more. In fact maybe there should be an area in the parking lot for the "fans" that want to taunt each other and then pull each others hair, grabass, etc... rope it off and let them at it.
  17. You have no right to be upset. Absolutely false. If you spend 100$ to take your family to the ball game you should have every expectation to be able to enjoy it. Its like taking your kids to a R rated movie and complaining that the movie was inappropriate for your kids. This comparison is neither apt nor sensible. An R-rated movie is advertised appropriately. The Brewers are advertised as family fun. Families have been attending MLB in Milwaukee for about 50 years. Secondly, there are never physical altercations at R-rated movies -- we aren't talking about a couple of random cuss words, we are talking about fights, spilling beer, etc... I mean even Cardinal games are good games for the family cause we don't as fans consider them our arch rival and it is much better of a game to go to if you eant more of a calm game. Cubs-Brewers has come to far and their is no help saving. You are just a Cub fan wearing a Brewers jersey. The competition is on the field, not in the stands. Please do not reflect on our fanbase and city so poorly.
  18. I'm going to buy Wes some doughnuts.
  19. You may not think that it's worth the bother but I'll bet you can appreciate why a guy like me does. I really don't -- I think you could have a wager about which pitchers will have the highest win total, without it being an absolute determination of which pitcher was "better". I don't see why you can't pick OPS or any stat for that matter and speculate on it. If you think those pitchers will have a lower OPS than Kendall -- then put your beer money where your mouth is, otherwise step aside.
  20. Fair enough -- I really didnt see a reason to move from OPS.
  21. And the 3 pitchers will surely improve upon their above sample but come on now. Yet you didn't take the bet.
  22. Ned was not perfect Yep, and I am not skinny.... I think that MLB managers can best be compared to the villains of the 1960s TV show Batman. For the most part they all have the same goal -- kill Batman -- but they fail to do it more often than not. They all make the same mistakes, they hire inept goons, they put Batman and Robin in weird thematic death-contraptions that always fall short -- and then they always leave the room so that the Dynamic Duo can escape. Most of MLB managers are like this -- of course there are a few innovative successes, like Falseface. On the other end of the spectrum, there is Ned Yost, who is like the criminal that Chief O'Hara was able to catch without any help. Ned Yost is like this guy.
  23. Not to mention that little hop he does before he catches a fly ball. Or that pose he does like when he misplayed Kendall's double.
