  1. somebody has got to bite the bullet and get tossed Or, somebody can bite the bullet, take one on the back pocket, go to 1b and have Prince drive them in. if it is handled correctly, you have a little used reliever suspended 3 games why should we go down a man in our BP? seems like we would be at a disadvantage for 3 games.
  2. the call screener told me that they knew Nelson would be DFA'd but he would clear waivers and be forced to report to AAA. I said I thought he could be a FA and the call screener became agitated and sort of yelled at me then hung up on me. The call screener was wrong -- A player can be outrighted w/o his permission only once, Nelson was outrighted 2 seasons ago -- If the Brewers DFA'd Nelson.... 1.) Nelson could tell the Brewers to pound sand and become a FA 2.) Nelson could be claimed when put on waivers by another team. or the Brewers could send him to AAA, if the above 2 things do not happen. This is sort of like Turnbow's situation last season. -- The difference between the 2 situations is that Turnbow never had been outrighted, BUT he had 3+ years of service, which meant he could have told the Brewers to pound sand, however it would have cost him his salary. Nelson has next to zero service time -- so that does not get him leverage -- what gives him leverage is that he has already been outrighted once.
  3. My bad -- I knew they went to the WS.
  4. I think the 59 Sox were the go-go Sox that won the WS.
  5. Last time I checked the Stats for Braun he had 0 innings pitched in his Professional Career Let's not pretend that positional players have never been suspended/injured from fallouts resulting from beanball wars. if YO would have drilled somebody he would be the most popular person in the Clubhouse! Yo pitched an 2-hit shutout and provided 100% of the offense -- I think he is plenty popular.
  6. I would agree with you if it wasn't for the stupid rule that if you retaliate, you get ejected. and suspended -- you want Braun/Yo out for 3 games? No thanks. Our retaliation is winning 15 in a row on these clowns. If I were Macha -- I'd get into the umpires grills before the game and berate them in public if they let a pitcher throw at one of our players.
  7. That for Nelson to join Nashville he must be DFA'd. And I would think Jack Z would love to have a LH 1B/LF bat in AAA for injury concerns (when you have Branyan and Griffey...) and it would give Nelson a great shot at real playing time, something less likely in Milwaukee. I think actually, Nelson could just refuse the assignment and become a FA.
  8. If he can slug like that, his OBP right now is plenty serviceable. It's really not, -- a .313 OBP is terrible and not worth the .455 SLG.
  9. It's worth pointing out that Weeks walk total is way down, to the point his OBP is not where you'd like despite a much better BA. Yes.. If Weeks had .313 OBP, I'd hope his BA was around .200 -- I'd rather have 2006 or 2007 Weeks than the Weeks we have seen so far this year.
  10. 6.05n -- With two out, a runner on third base, and two strikes on the batter, the runner attempts to steal home base on a legal pitch and the ball touches the runner in the batter's strike zone. The umpire shall call "Strike Three," the batter is out and the run shall not count; before two are out, the umpire shall call "Strike Three," the ball is dead, and the run counts. 5.09n -- Any legal pitch touches a runner trying to score; runners advance. So I think that the umpire calls the pitch a ball or a strike -- and then the ball is dead and runners advance.
  11. So lets say your scenario above, 2 outs 2 stikes, pitch hits the runner stealing home for a strike and bounces far away and the batter is safe at first on a strikeout, that would score a run, although it seems not fair to the defense because the catcher never had a chance to catch the ball. I am certain that if the batter has 2 strikes, and the runner is it by a strike, the ball is dead and the batter is out. If the ball hits the runner stealing home, it's a deadball, I think runners can advance one base.
  12. Well I guess it would be the same ruling as if the pitcher hit a guy trying to steal 2nd. Definitely not -- because when the pitcher throws to 2nd he is doing so, off of the rubber and is not a pitcher -- he is a fielder. If a runner gets hit by a pitch and it is a strike, it is a strike and the runs scores -- I think the only caveat is, if there are 2 outs and 2 strikes, and the runner is hit by a pitched ball, and the ump calls a strike -- the batter is out, and the run does not score. Some ump should make sure I am correct.
  13. Ideas of what to do while wife's gone? Dude -- My wife takes my daughters about 2x a year to visit her brother for a week -- my son and I love this time. I am proud to say that we have created, implemented and improved the "24 hr., living room, taco bar". I will have to take pictures the next time we set it up. It is my singular greatest achievement. The golden rule of how you should spend your time when your wife is gone should be "If you are wearing pants, you are doing it wrong" Pick your battles. Choose wisely. Crazy Old Man is wise. I am pretty sure that you are just crazy instead of wise.... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif My wife doesn't remember anything I do for her 10 hrs after I do it, let alone 10 weeks. Embrace Debauchery. Sounds like I need to find myself a wife. Sure, if you are ready to cash in your chips, why not... EDIT: Stock up on air-fresheners.
  14. Julio is guaranteed $1M I am pretty sure he will get an extra look because of it.
  15. I see that you don't think that all of those 3 guys will hit better than Kendall anymore though. I think the aggregate will be better than Kendall -- I wouldn't want to bet that all three would outhit Kendall. then I no longer post here. I would want no part of you not posting here, I like your posts (and certainly Russ's as well) and I don't want this to be ugly -- I am just proposing a simple bet Kendall v. Yo/Parra/Looper OPS -- with the loser making a donation to a beer fridge of the winner's choice.
  16. People claim player X is the better hitter but won't use the right stats to back up that claim. You made the following statement, which included OPS Even with Kendall's bad start, his projections going forward beat any pitcher's very easily. OPS is a heck of a lot better than BA or RBIs but it's clearly not the right stat to compare two players and determine who's more productive. But I think you know that already. If Kendall should "beat any pitcher's projection easily" -- then why do we need to include linear weights? It's not as if we are debating which of 2 players with .800 OPS's are more valuable. If we need to introduce linear weights into an argument of a position player vs. an aggregate of 3 starting pitchers -- I think the point has already been made. If you think that "Kendall (or his projections) will beat any pitcher's projection easily" -- I don't think you would be concerned about OPS v. properly weighting OBP -- but that's just me. If we did do it your way, we should exclude Kendall's IBBs then.
  17. I think it is gaining momentum. "so, let's see what other plants we can eat, Jerry"
  18. Just to clarify, a team is only on the hook for this if they trade for him or claim him on waivers. Once he clears waivers, the Brewers would be free to sign him to whatever contract they'd like. This isn't entirely true -- At this point in the season there are 2 types of waivers... 1.) Unconditional Release 2.) Outright For Unconditional Release, -- this would be used if the Cubs want to cut ties with Vizcaino, -- PF is exactly correct. If the Brewers claimed Vizcaino on waivers, they'd pick up the contract, if Vizcaino cleared waivers, he would become a FA, and the Brewers could sign him to whatever deal they want. For Outright Waivers -- this would be if the Cubs want to send Vizcaino to AAA -- PF is incorrect -- a team claiming Vizcaino would pay some sort of pro-rated portion of the league minimum, and the Cubs would be on the hook for the rest -- this would be similar to when the Brewers sent Turnbow down to AAA last season.
  19. No way I'm using OPS, though, since it grossly undervalues OBP and that's the only thing Kendall isn't terrible at yet. Here is a stat Kendall isn't terrible at... [Groundout to 3b ^ popup]/[hr-1] -- In fact I would say he is indefinably good... I would have thought that based on your reply (#7), OPS would have been sufficient -- If you are not comfortable wagering that Kendall can beat the aggregate OPS of Looper, Yo and Parra, -- I am content to leave things at that. $50, donated to BF.net? No, they'd just blow the money on crappy CDs and ponytails -- I'd rather donate money to a worthy cause like your beer fridge, or tailgate fund. If you stand behind this comment I will. Meaning that if you would take the aggregate of all 3 I will name stakes. Fair enough, I will stand behind it -- Let me hear what you have. Aside to FTJ: Dude, you're really working hard to find someone to bet you about something. I'm tempted to say something outlandish in some thread just to see if I can get any action. Yeah, my doctor suggested that I should stop overeating -- though I am pretty sure he implied that I should replace overeating with compulsive gambling, and then of course celebratory meals, or self-loathing visits to Taco Bell. I'm on the road to recovery.
  20. I don' think Yo will have a higher OPS than Kendall by the end of the year. OK, let's bet... name yer stakes... In other words, going forward, you are saying that more often than not, you would expect that all three will out hit Kendall, if we played the season a million times. Over one season, you could be dead wrong and still luck your way to a win, or I could be wrong and still win. But since I think the odds of your claim actually occurring are so low, I would love to take the bet. I am not real comfortable saying all three will hit better than Kendall over the course of this season, but I would take the aggregate of all three, or Yo. Name your stakes...
  21. So you wouldn't take Yo v. Kendall?
  22. As much as I dislike Kendall's bat, I would love to take that bet. Seriously? -- What's your terms? -- I will take Yo, and you take the Ken-dog.
  23. The mutual option serves as leverage for Looper. Basically he gets a one year deal to show what he can do, and cash in, in 2010 with a multi-year deal.
  24. While I agree Kendall has died offensively, everybody hits 200. Kendall might get to .200 -- the problem is, his SLG will be .230. I can see this thread getting confused with semantics -- I understand what endaround is saying -- but I think his answer is confusing things. I would have no problem treating Kendall as the worst hitter in the lineup when Parra, Looper, and Yo are pitching. So..... If your philosophy is that the worst hitter should bat 8th, I think Kendall should bat 8th If your philosophy is that the worst hitter should bat 9th, I think Kendall should bat 9th. Kendall OPS .402 Brewers pitchers OPS .571 I will give the obligatory "small sample" disclaimer, but I am pretty convinced that Yo, Parra and Looper are more effective hitters at this point.
