  1. I apologize, as I think this may have been addressed, but if Hall denies a minor league assignment, wouldn't he forfeit his MLB contract? I know Turnbow had to cross that bridge, but for some reason I recall Hall's situation being clarified as different from Turnbow's Turnbow had enough service time where he could have refused the assignment, but in doing so would have forfeited his contract. Hall has just enough service time to hold a lot of leverage. Bill Hall is a sunk cost.
  2. One of the greatest NCAA QBs I can remember.
  3. "red ring of death" reminds me of that Johnny Cash song. Sigh.
  4. If it were me I think I would have gone with 7 serving of cheese curds and ditched all the other food. Given the toxic nature of these curds -- I would say it would take 7 seasons to eat seven servings -- it's not that they aren't good, but they really absorb the oil. Man, I thought I took advantage of that. I went last Thursday and had like 9 beers and 4 cheeseburgers, you put me to shame. Agreed, Dave really ran the gamut here... 9 beers and 4 cheeseburgers is a pretty standard cookout-lunch for BF readers. Dave touched all of the bases. I carried the big cookie in as sort of a prop to celebrate my victory. Good for you. That is awesome. I think the Brewers should get giant cookies to carry around the next time they get to the playoffs.
  5. Branyan doesn't need money. He feeds on fear.
  6. Why isn't David Segui on it? or Jason Grimsley? I think this is Bullyost.
  7. The fact that Branyan is not in a Brewers uniform this year is just another reason to spite Bill Hall. and Doug Melvin. However, I don't think anyone could have reasonably predicted Branyan would have the kind of year he's had so far, either. Russell Branyan is clearly the most powerful force in all of baseball -- While not everybody would have predicted that the Muscle would have hit as well as he has this year -- I think EVERYONE, except for Doug Melvin perhaps, knew that Branyan could hit RHP better than Hall. Did you know Branyan is OPSing .953 against LHP this year? -- He is so incredibly awesome.
  8. And except for his very low BAbip. All this lends credence to those who are saying he's hitting the ball hard, just right at defenders. I think that this is true to some degree... but I think a lot, or some of this argument is hopeful hand-waving. For the last 2 seasons, Hardy's EBH rate was at ~9% and HR ratio was at ~23ABS/HR. This year his EBH% is at ~5% and His HR ratio is at 39ABs/HR. Now, it seems to me if Hardy was "hitting the ball hard at defenders" -- his BA/EBH% would drop -- however, his HR rate would probably stay about the same -- again assuming Hardy is making good contact, but getting robbed, he loses singles, and maybe some doubles -- but his HRs are not going to be hit at defenders. I think to some degree he is unlucky -- I think to a larger degree he is having a bad year.
  9. Ned Yost was too green for red.
  10. If people aren't doing that, why aren't they doing that? If it's just a reaction to a bad couple of games, then it's a vent, which this forum specifically doesn't want. That's quite a stretch and flimsy argument. Bill Hall in the last two years has seen about ~150 ABs against LHP -- He has already seen 59, that is a big chunk out of 150. If you think Bill Hall should get 100 more ABs against LHP going forward -- that certainly is a reasonable argument -- however, giving Gamel those ABs is an argument that has plenty of merit as well. Gamel isn't rotting on the bench. Exactly -- However, the fact remains, Escobar is in AAA, and Gamel is in MLB.
  11. OK, I gotta defend "My Humps" here. I have never understood 25-40 year old males hating on songs meant for teenage girls -- sure it sucks, but it at least is clear in its target audience. The Eagles on the other hand clearly suck -- and have made a career out of providing music sure to be heard on the elevator to hell. Again, I would dare the person that hates "My Humps" to watch this song and tell me they still think My Humps is the worst song ever.
  12. Was my point not clear? I thought it was clear but irrelevant. If people are upset with Hall because of his performance in his role, why aren't these same people resurrecting that Hardy thread from the last topic of page 2 to lodge similar complaints? I am not sure that every/any time BF.net wants to discuss a slumping player, we need to ensure that all other "slumping threads" are up to date. I disagree. They have opposite profiles, Gamel with the big bat and some questions on defense, Escobar with the great glove and some questions on offense. The big difference is that Gamel is burning service time, Escobar is not -- If Escobar was rotting on our bench, I am sure people would be a little more anxious about Hardy's current struggles.
  13. but there is more reason to talk about Hardy's poor performance than Hall's poor performance in their roles going forward Not in a Bill Hall thread -- it's two independent issues/thread topics. There was a thread about Hardy, but he had a hot May and so that went away. Again, I think if Mat Gamel was a SS, there would be a lot more JJ-sucktitude talk. Who do we replace Hardy with? -- Escobar isn't the slamdunk that Gamel is. We could DFA Hall tomorrow and move forward, we can't DFA Hardy w/o opening another can of problems.
  14. How would you feel if you showed up at your job and some group of people you didn't know was constantly heckling you? This happens all day, every day for many many people that deal with the general public -- I have had jobs from fast food to million dollar clients, and the one common thread I have had with all these jobs, is at no point could I do crotch chops. As an employee, you are expected to behave, even if your client/customer is pushing your patience.
  15. This is baseball, not tea with the Queen.... It's baseball. It's not the opera. I don't like arguments like this -- Baseball is not opera or tea with the Queen -- but it isn't Dogfighting, or an afternoon with Jayson Williams either. There is a middle ground, where there is fun, but some sense of decorum and reasonable behavior occurs. Fair enough. I can't say I loved it either, but it didn't bother me at all. This is probably where I fall in this discussion -- I'd hate to see it happen all the time, and I wouldn't like every player doing it. I guess I'd rather Prince do his talking with his bat rather than his crotch. And two strawman arguments in a row, does that break a board record? Not even close.
  16. On one hand, Hardy's struggles have nothing to do with a Bill Hall discussion. I think if Mat Gamel was a SS -- you'd see a lot more heat under Hardy -- there is no doubt he is having a bad year.
  17. I expect he will be DFA'd soon and will clear waivers and will have to accept an assignment to the minors or else not get paid. Bill Hall has 5+ years of service time -- He will get his money even if he refuses his assignment. He likes to talk travel and wants to know how you are doing. Maybe suggest travel suggestions for Bill Hall? In my opinion Hall will likely be DFAed before the season is out. The main reason he's being kept around is as sort of an insurance policy in case Gamel flops offensively or defensively. I agree with this 100% -- It seems prudent to me, to keep Hall on the bench, start Gamel, and keep Hall until the Brewers are 100% that Gamel is here to stay. I have seen this psted earlier, but didnt see an answer (though I didnt re-read all 9 pages) - can Hall be sent down to AAA? Sure. Hall would be exposed to outright waivers..... 1.) Hall could get claimed by another team, where the Brewers would be responsible for most of his salary. 2.) Hall could refuse the assignment, and get paid anyway. 3.) These waivers are irrevocable.
  18. How much of our pitching problems can be based on the pitching coach? My Dad keeps ragging on the new guy. Bill Castro has been in Milwaukee longer than beer has.
  19. The East doesn't look like they will be producing one, and who believes the Giants are a better team than the Brewers? They don't have to be a better team, they just have to win more games. It's not as if the Brewers and Giants have the same exact schedule. The Central will probably produce the WC this year, which means the Brewers would only have to beat one of the Cards and Cubs, not both. I think getting ahead of one of these teams will be a challenge.... That said -- I tend to agree, if you can get an arm, go get it. We should be buyers right now.
  20. Im cool with waiting until Sam gets back into grad school.
  21. This was my exact reaction as well -- I realize the Reds probably want to protect the Votto's privacy, however, that is what the bereavement list is for. I think it should be illegal for teams to be deliberately misleading about injuries.
  22. It is no where near as good as RE4, which is my favorite shooter of all time It occurred to me that RE4 is a blatant rip of Gymkata.
  23. Gotta say Warren Spahniel is pretty darned good Someone needs to name their dog that, or I will be sad.
