  1. Obviously that doesn't take defense into account, though I must be one of the few who thinks Weeks' defense is fine. If it isn't, it seems that most agree that Weeks is equal to Durham at worst. Weeks D is horrible, I believe that Durham is probably better, Durham could be as bad though. He's still a league average-quality player when he's having a bad year. I don't believe this to be true. All of his offensive stats are average to below average (this year) for his position, his D is definitely taking him down another notch. Weeks is certainly better than the "replacement player" -- but he is well below average overall for starting ML 2bs. the thought of having .400 OBP with power at 2B is pretty exciting It is, however it is more of a pipedream. Since 2001 only 1 2b has had a .400 OBP, and that was Utley -- Weeks will never get to that level (or most 2bs) IMO.
  2. I think your hyphens and negative signs are confusing.
  3. fair enough. I think they both suck.
  4. Oh yeah man. He's toast. #7 MLB CF OPS (with at least 450 PA). Clearly the game has passed him by. 51 randomly-selected PAs tell us all we need to know. That was said in reference to Cam's recent struggles but earlier you said this in defense of Weeks, seems like you buttering both sides of the bread. batting leadoff has gotten to his head to the tune of a .430+ OBP so far in September
  5. I usually start swearing profusely if something goes against the Packers or Brewers. I don't know what I'll do once I have kids. Gain weight
  6. Svuem says he want's a "veteran presence" on the top of the order. Weeks is a veteran, right?
  7. Wow. So the noble booers have accomplished what they wanted. No more booing. Yipee! I think the booers are just on standby -- I'm pretty sure any K, Error, Gagne, etc. will be met with booing.
  8. But hey let's blame Fielder based on wild speculation and gut feeling and then talk about how immature he is based on groundless speculation! I thought when Prince shoved Parra, that showed an incredible lack of immaturity. That said, I agree it is foolish to begin to speculate "who got Ned fired". It could have been a vet, like Counsell or Gagne, who have been in a lot of postseasons and told DM that Yost was losing it -- A case could be made any player, I think DM would value the opinion more of a guy like Counsell than Weeks or even Fielder.
  9. Is Jack Z even qualified? I mean just because he is good at his job right now doesn't mean he would make a good GM. I don't know the answer to my own question, just curious. Pittsburgh offered him a job -- so maybe... Sometimes a GM can be decent, and have done an overall good job, but there is a time to move on -- and that may be the case with DM. I think 2009 is going to be shaky, and I don't see MA letting DM hire a coach and then getting canned himself in 2009. I'd rather a new GM come in hire his own guys, and everyone be on the same page for 2009. DM does not have to be bad to be fired
  10. And if you're wrong and it was legitimately a mutual decision? I don't think it was a mutual decision at all. First, it goes against everything DM has demonstrated in the last few years -- extreme patience and non-panicking. Second, the decision HAS to appear mutual even if it isn't -- If MA comes out and fires Ned Yost, over DM, that really would cause problems. It's not as if DM needed the support of the owner to fire Ned. The only qualifier I will make, is maybe Ned was pissing off all of the players -- if those Philly reports are to believed. Maybe he ate all of Prince's Doritos.
  11. I tend to think that DM is already fired as well -- or will be soon. There are certainly more problems in our organization than Yost, I would think MA would take the time to restructure everything. I guess I think we are getting the cart in front of the horse, if in fact we will have a new GM as well.
  12. Are you implying this isn't a desperate team....come on. I don't understand all this "It reeks/smacks of desperation" crap. Duh! No I think the team is desperate -- it does not follow that the move has to be desperate, there is still time to think things through -- the Brewers are tied for 1st in the WC race, I don't think firing Yost at this point will help one bit. Of course if it is true that the players were talking to management about Yost -- then that is a different scenario. I still think that this move is 100% MA, and not DM. I think DM got the option to either fire Ned or get fired himself. My guess is that DM is in fact fired as well, as soon as the Brewers season ends. The only reason that Sveum was hired as interim manager is because he is close to the players and available. The Brewers do not have time to execute any sort of hiring plan. I doubt in any case he is retained in 2009. I guess we will see what will happen.
  13. Here is my take: I hate this move, it smacks of desperation. I think Yost deserved to be fired, but I think doing it to this team at this point in the season would be like if the Eagles would have punted on 4th and 26. I can't imagine in a million years DM firing a manager with 12 games left in a pennant race -- I am certain MA pulled the trigger on this, and DM had to say it was "collaborative" just to get some blood on his hands. I think Simmons thought the move was bush league and refused to be a part of the team moving forward. I think Sveum is going to be hilarious. If this team is tight now, wait until reporters are asking the players if it is their fault Yost got canned. The only way this would make sense to me, would be if Yost did something aggressive to someone. I don't like Yost, but I think that this was the proverbial fork in 2008.
  14. Ned wasn't here in 1984. Traded for Sundberg. Exactly my point. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. The Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals "franchise" hasn't been to the post-season since 1981, which is 27 years. I'm sure FOX didn't count them, though, since they moved to a different city. The 1994 Expos "won" the NL East in 1994, and had the best record in the NL by far (74-40) -- I realize that isn't "post-season" -- but they had the best record in their division.
  16. Here are my thoughts -- 1.) I'd rather trade Hardy to another team than move him to 2b or 3b on our team, if Escobar is ready to go -- trade JJ, it would maximize our return. 2.) Trade Prince before he eats more Doritos. 3.) Move Weeks to the OF, I don't think he brings enough O, to cancel out his D. I think he could be a decent CF. 4.) Find some guy to play 3b -- I'd be content with Hall+Branyan though.
  17. I wasn't born at the time, but I'd imagine that losing game seven of the world series was a lot worse than falling into a tie for the wildcard. I don't think so. No shame in being the AL champs. It was disappointing -- but not as bad as this IMO -- having lived through both.
  18. ZZtop circa 1973 before their beards got really long
  19. My advice to the Brewers and Ned is realize you are not part of the past 26 years of questionable baseball. I am holding Ned responsible for 1983, 1984, 2003-2008

  21. Never bet on the Tidy-Bowl man to win a race. -- Some boat-race gambler.
  22. 7. Signing Eric Gagne. I would change this to "Signing Gagne, and then continually letting him pitch" -- I think if they would have shut Gagne down a lot sooner, I could have lived with the signing I will add one. 9. Letting Craig Counsell get 21 starts at 3b. How many fantasy MLB teams are there? Maybe a billion? I bet of those billion teams, the cumulative starts at 3b for Counsell is less that 21 -- this would include fantasy teams owned by Counsell, his children, and extended family. Now I realize that Counsell needs to give teammates days off -- he got 30 starts at 2b/ss to give days of to JJ/Weeks -- but running continually running Counsell out as your 3b is bad management. I think both Yost and Melvin have to go. Agreed 100%
  23. I have to agree that Yost keeps his job if we make 90+ wins. You can't control how well other teams do and 90+ wins will get you into the playoffs more often than not. I am going to pick on you Logan http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I am not a big fan of drawing some arbitrary win total in the sand, and awarding the manager the job if they hit X+1 wins, or firing them if they hit X-1 wins. Logan is absolutely right that 90 usually gets you into the playoffs (especially in the recent years of the National League), but sometimes 100 wins doesn't win you your division. I find a win total to be arbitrary I think a GM going into a season, has some sort of number in his head of how many games his team that he assembled should win, i.e. -- this is an 80 win team, or this is a 90 win team. Then you evaluate the manager based on how well the team maximized their win opportunities -- so if a GM assembles an "80 win team" that wins 90 games, the manager did a good job. Anyone that knows me would certainly agree that I am more Nostradumbass than Nostradamus, but it became apparent to me that Yost was an incompetent boob early in 2006. I thought DM should have fired Yost after 2006, but I was mostly OK with DM letting Yost get one more year. After DM extended Yost after 2007, that was the last straw for me with DM. I don't think that Yost has or will maximize the "win potential" of any team he is put in charge of. I think if the Brewers win 90 games this year, ANY other manager, tictactoe chicken, lucky rock, would have gotten 95-97 wins out of the same talent.
  24. I'm going to say the night in December 1992 when ESPN broke the story around midnight that Molitor had agreed with the Jays was worse- This was it for me. Molitor and I broke in with the Brewers about at the same time, he was the first hot-shot rookie to take the team by storm for me, and when he left, that link to my first Brewer experiences were compromised.
