  1. Hmm.. I'm looking at mine -- one end goes in his butt -- the other on the spot on the base where the hashes cross. Did you buy it loose?
  2. fixed -- thanks man
  3. Upon closer inspection -- there is a piece of metal that seems to be yosting the latching procedure -- blocking the opening. OOPS: -- Thanks Bullox -- thats exactly the problem -- how do I loosen it?
  4. I have an older mini-van and the tailgate won't latch -- you just slam the tailgate and it thuds and doesn't latch. Is there a fix for this? -- I went to autozone and couldn't find a part
  5. If Latka Gravas hasn't been mentioned at this point, he probably should be.
  6. I'm an XM subscriber, and the baseball coverage is great. You get EVERY game, as well as XM Home Plate (a 24/7 baseball talk channel). You can also listen to XM Home Plate online (you might even be able to get a free trial). Can't recommend it highly enough. I have both XM and Sirius and I like them both -- You can't listen to the MLB/NFL etc. online though. The 2 companies recently had their merger approved, so I would wait a couple of months, before investing too heavily into equipment -- as there may be a whole new set of purchasing options available. From a music standpoint I prefer Sirius.
  7. That is why they get into rundowns if it is going to be close. Right. However it is still a risk that they will get tagged out before that run scores. I guess I'd rather keep that runner at 2nd with 2 outs than end the inning. I think the chances are really low that a defense is going to cut that throw if they have a good chance to get that run at the plate -- (in a late inning tie game e.g.) If the catcher calls for the cut because they have a 10% chance to get the runner at home and the guy at 2nd is heading to 3rd -- I guess I'd rather keep that guy at 2nd as a potential insurance run, than end the inning to hedge a 90% bet. As others have pointed out -- it probably is not reasonable for a baserunner to: calculate the speed of the other runner/arm of the OF/accuracy of the throw while he is running bases.
  8. I think you can send it to the bank, Cameron will be back in 09.
  9. I don't see what the problem with listing just OBP and SLG is. The number one goal of hitting is to get on-base, and whether you hit a clean single or the ball hits you right in the ribs, it all counts the same. Of course this is far from true... but here are some numbers... 1997 OBP RC Player A -- .409 132 Player B -- .409 86 Player C -- .409 107 Which guy would you rather have on your team? I'd take player A. Player A hit .372 -- Player B hit .333 -- Player C hit .316. You are definitely not getting the full picture if you are ignoring BA. Taking it a step further -- Player D -- OPS .996 .411 OPB RC 115 BW 4.1 Player A -- OPS .957 .409 OPB RC 132 BW 4.8 Player A, had a lower OPS, but generated more runs, because his OBP was BA heavy compared to Player D who batted .295 but drew 98 BBs. BA is not the end all be all but it is worthwhile data.
  10. Of course if that runner at third makes an out before the run scores it doesn't count either.
  11. Instead of taking this repremanding type tone..couldn't you just say. "The Northwoods League is really not considered minor leagues"? It isn't the minors in any shape or form. A lot of people that are not familiar with the Northwoods, assume it is a minor league or indy league -- which it isn't -- just clarifying. The point of my statement was that, minor league or not, there are several players from that league that have gone on to play in the majors and that watching players play purely for the love of the game can be refreshing. No arguments here.
  12. Dexter -- Hands down
  13. You do know that most MLB players played minor league ball at some point, right? It's not fair or accurate to call the Northwoods minor leagues
  14. I agree with you on that. At first Cam was a piece of crap. Wasn't doing anything to start the season. I think he was pressing after the suspension.
  15. I'd trade Suppan for a bag that could hold doughnuts I'd hold out for doughnuts, but I tend to be on the fat side.
  16. Weeks is hitting .335/.380... Gobias, BA is meaningless to me too. Then you guys need to take care to not make sloppy statements like the above -- Weeks is NOT hitting .335 Certainly not saying hits are meaningless. When you can look at SLG and OBP, I don't need to see the stat. Sure you do. Weeks OBP is down from 2008 to 2007 -- Why? --- Don't even insinuate a guy as smart as you is not going to check to see if his hit rate has declined or his walk rate declined. The scary thing to me, is that the decline in Weeks's OBP is due to a decreased lack of BBs, and his BA is more constant.. If Weeks OBP was worse because his BA was lower, I'd have an easier time considering it random -- a decline in BB's is a bit more troublesome.
  17. I'd still consider Prince better than Ryan Howard defensively. Would you guys agree? I think Howard, while bad has been at least treading water -- Prince seems to have gotten worse. I think Howard is better -- not that i could conclusively defend it -- Prince is probably the worst fielding 1b in the league, unless I am missing someone.
  18. Once again, this is just another case of Yost defending his players. I'm sure he was angry at Hardy for making the out, he just doesn't like to rip his players in the media so he lies. You have no idea what you typed is true or not. Furthermore Sveum sent Hardy. I also put some guidelines in the initial post to hopefully skirt the Yost arguing. All I wanted to do is debate/discuss the words that came out of his mouth. Hardy trying to take 3rd there didn't make too much sense, and ending innings early for one run needs to be stopped. This sort of opinion is what I was looking for -- along with some numbers (thanks Russ!)
  19. Sure his AVG was low, but the BA stat is 100% meaningless. False. BA is NOT meaningless, after all it is a huge component of OBP and therefore OPS. It is overemphasized for certain, but it essentially necessary to judge how a player performed. If you look at Weeks's stats, he is K'ing a little less this year, but walking considerably less (2007 -- 16%, 2008 11%). I don't think he is going to walk at a 16% rate again, so the answer for Weeks to get his OPS above guys like Aaron Miles is to hit the ball better -- which he should have the talent to do. As far as his D, he still has weak footwork, and that sidearm throw he makes turning DPs is pretty sad. I really think if he was to become a good defender it would have happened by now.
  20. As for the guy claiming he works for the Brewers and demanding people sit in their seats and not walk around; get over it. There is no question this dude works for the Brewers. It is part of his job to ensure that people are safe and secure. He has been cool enough to give away seats to games for free on this site, so I would probably give him a little more respect than you are showing.
  21. That says to me that JJ had no need to pull the throw, he was just a sitting duck. Am I not remembering/seeing that right? I think that is 100% accurate
  22. The baserunner must determine whether the runner going home needs that protection. Is this reasonable?? -- for a baserunner to determine whether a guy going home is 20% toast or 80% toast?
  23. Yost said the above regarding a play where Hardy was thrown out at 3rd, and Durham scored. It seems to me Yost is developing a different (to MLB norms) philosophy of "Sacrificing Baserunners" Let's adhere to the following guidelines for this discussion. 1.) As per Yost, this was not a "mistake" by Hardy, rather a philosophical approach by the team. 2.) I hate that Yost manages the Brewers, but I really do not want to talk about Yost here -- rather the concept, is it cool to sacrifice baserunners to "ensure the run". This discussion does not need to be about Yost, or any specific plays last night -- only general concepts. 3.) I really don't want to discuss "Aggressive Baserunning" as a whole, rather only situations where one baserunner "sacrifices" himself to "ensure the run".
  24. Sorry, but I don't see much of a difference between sunflower seed shells and peanut shells. If you think it's gross, don't look. Sunflower seeds are wet, and if allowed to accumulate could get icky. Generally people do not put peanut shells in their mouth.
