  1. The bottom line is that this sample is too small. This has been pointed out WAY TOO MUCH. Everyone understands this. Someone wanted to kick around ~100 ABs for Counsell -- Of course it is too small of a sample to say anything conclusive, but why can't we theorize about these 100 ABs with the understanding that there isn't ever going to be a definitive answer.
  2. I'm not counting on a cubs collapse, but anything can happen. Sure -- the Cubs could lose their last 100 games -- it could happen. I don't think people realize how monumentally bad our collapse was last year, and it is probably not going to repeat this year.
  3. The F.O. has done a better job with a bunch more money to spend, so it is kind of hard to compare. No it's not --- People just assume the Cubs spent more, than perhaps they spent more wisely. Cubs Pitchers Gallagher .4 Eyre 3.8 Howry 4.5 Lieber 3.5 Marmol .43 Wood 4.2 Lilly 8 Marquis 6.375 Zambrano 16 Wuertz .86 Dempster 7.3 Hill .4 Total -- ~56M ------------------------- Brewers Gagne 10 McClung .75 Mota 3.2 Riske 4 Shouse 2 Tavarez .4 Torres 3.3 Bush 2.5 Cappy 3.7 Yo .4 Parra .4 Sheets 12 Turnbow 3.2 Suppan 8.2 Villy .4 Total -- ~55M The Brewers and Cubs have spent roughly the same amount of money for this year's pitching. I fail to see the money advantage. They have the money to lock up anyone they want, like Lee, Ramirez, and Zambrano. My post dealt with pitching, but the Cubs made incredibly shrewd trades to get Lee and Ramirez. That is most of their team and just looking at that I dont think the front office did amazing. No one said they did "amazing" -- I said that I think the Cubs FO is more of a factor than the pitching coaches, when comparing the Brewers and Cubs.
  4. If there's something I've learned over the past 100 years, it's that the Cubs find have a knack for choking. Well I guess I will defer to your 100 year learning window. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. what does everyone think of the Rothschild vs Maddux argument? Ennder is right that the D is a MUCH bigger variable than the pitching coaches, -- I think the Cubs F.O. has done a better job with pitching than the Brewers have done recently as well.
  6. Early last year, it seems that the Brewers were poised to absolutely run away with the central, whereas the Cubs seemed to be destined to finish in the lower half of the division. The Brewers had a historically bad meltdown -- I don't think we can count on that sort of thing happening to the Cubs. I think the 2008 Cubs are better than the 2007 Cubs, and I am not sure that the 2007 Brewers are worse than this year's Brewers. The WC seems more realistic.
  7. The chart that is shown lists 8 in that situation. Oops -- I didn't see the horizontal scroll bar, my bad. Since 48 GIDP for 600 PA would be atrocious, I'd have to imagine that's a pretty large amount. It's higher for sure. So, you have,... 1. Higher OPS 2. GIDP rate is higher 3. BB rate is down. So basically this indicates to me that Counsell sees some very hittable pitches, when the bases are loaded. Knowing Counsell, he probably slapped a lot of GBs, in these PAs, and he probably over his career has benefitted from these GBs finding holes.
  8. Tony Gwynn Jr will be our center fielder next year When did we become Nashville. Do you think CF is a more demanding position than LF, from a pure skill point of view? I don't think there is a question about it. I would rather see Braun in RF over Hart, because I think he has a better arm.
  9. I'd be curious what his GIDP rate with the bases loaded is as well.
  10. I found the original -- thanks guys!
  11. Is the original cable something I can buy in the store?
  12. I am trying to set up a Wii for my daughter at her birthday at a cabin. -- the TV only has one video input, and 2 audio inputs (L/R) The Wii cable has the three inputs for the video -- is there some sort of cable that combines the 3 into 1? Thanks
  13. Once the luck starts running out for Soto, I think we'll have a much better view of what he is as a batter. I have seen enough that I think Soto is a plus/top player for C in the NL. I agree we may not know what his exact level will end up being, but I think he be better than what most teams are running out at the C spot. I like the Cubs balance, and I think the big advantage that they have over the Brewers, is a lot of veterans that are not Kapleresque veterans.
  14. My son and I got to meet 3TO a couple of years ago -- Branyan was talking to my son, and I was standing off a little bit, and he started laughing so I looked back over and 3TO told me my son told him to "Keep hitting bombs". One of the first HRs my son saw in person was a Branyan bomb -- it sort of skewed his expectations that every HR should either leave MP or hit the scoreboard. I think some sort of relative of 3TO has posted here in the past. Ty Wigginton stole and continues to steal my baseball cards. If Rickie Weeks could convert his pop-outs to either K's or HRs, he'd be over 50% 3TO, especially with all his HBP.
  15. And honestly, I get that we want to keep the posts short by not throwing in the whole quote, but I hate this because it comes off as me being some naive idiots who thinks that he's GOING to be really good because he's got good stuff. Well you did indicate McClung could be a front/middle rotation guy. Given the choice between the guy who throws 95 and has control issues and the guy who throws 85 with no control issues, I'll still take the 95 because at least he might figure it out. The Brewers right now could use a couple of guys who have no control issues regardless of their velocity. McClung isn't likely to be throwing much at 95MPH as a starter, maybe as a reliever, but probably not as a starter.
  16. Gene Conley FTW
  17. Nope. I was a man and not a musician.
  18. Which pitchers in our rotation right now at "at best" just 4 or 5's? Parra? Certainly not. McClung? Nope. McClung's ceiling is a #5 -- he is an emergency starter at best -- Also, while I think Parra could be a solid SP, he is nowhere near a 1/2. I think the wisdom of trading Prince now, is that is stock, while falling, is probably still high, and there may be NL teams at this point that may take a chance with his D.
  19. I played for the Celtics and the Red Sox, who am I?
  20. I might see some reasoning behind walking the 2nd guy in front of the pitcher, but not Chipper no matter how well he is hitting I agree -- that last IBB to Chipper was insane
  21. I don't think a reasonable person finds it funny. I think the Cubs have every right to sue, I understand the free speech implications, -- but there is a point where selling the shirt so close to the stadium could damage their business -- which I am guessing is where most of the Cubs concern lie. I dont think the Cubs would get as fired up, if the sales of the shirts were on the internet.
  22. The one thing I have noticed over the years is that the last "tool" players seem to lose is power. Prince may have lost some power to his diet, but i seriously doubt there is enough loss to prevent him from hitting a baseball 320+ feet. I'd certainly concede that there is something amiss -- I doubt it is his meat intake. I'd be more worried about his pop-tart/dorito intake first.
  23. On May 19th, 2007 Milwaukee 26-17 Chicago 20-21 5.0 GB I know a lot of people keep pointing to the Cubs/Brewers of 2007. The Brewers meltdown in 2007, was one of the worst meltdowns in NL history -- (I think top 5), so while we can say "all is not lost" -- expecting something similar to 2007 probably isn't a good idea.
  24. Take last night for example. Had Fielder not handled that ball in the hole and Hardy not been able to dive for the liner up the middle, Torres may have blown it and this thread would be titled, "Who The Heck Will Be the Closer Now!?" I know what you are saying -- but the balls caught by Prince and Hardy, are the sort of outs Torres induces (GBs). The thing that bugs me about Mota/Gagne are the BBs and HRs. As long as Torres isn't walking people and keeps the ball in the park, I am quite alright with him being the closer.
