  1. sorry for my english... the answer is no. without "american players with a italian name" italy will not be involved in the wbc. we got 4/5 italians player in the minors (the best is Alessandro Maestri in the Cubs farm system) and that's it. one of the star of the italian league is givanni carrara (yes, THAT giovanni carrara) the level, thus in devolpment is far far away, not only from MLB, but from japan, cuba, latin america as well. so i'm happy there will be a team playing with the name italy, becouse it grants baseball some space in newspaper television. last time the presence of mike piazza (by far the worst italian player in the tournament....ahahah) was something for italian baseball..
  2. the "real" italian team has qualified eight in the last european (yes, european) tournament. i think it will be embarassing for baseball itself sending a home made roster... by the way, in the last 30 years italy and the netherlands have dominated the european scene, MLB is intersted in this two teams for marketing reason and the fact that in 2010 or 2011 mlb will sponsor new league both in holland and in italy - IBL (italian baseball league) stricktly connected with MLB. being WBC a invitation tournament, MLB invited the top baseball markets countries.
  3. WBC is not a CIO tournament. is a mlb organized tournament. the teams are invited, there are no qualification. it a world wide baseball party therefore there are no rules for players to play for countries they don't even know where they are. i'm italian but i am happy (proud) that guys that never stepped into italian territory play for us? no. i just dont't care, i am happy to see some baseball one month before what we are used to.
  4. rottino (listed as a OF) di felice and falgello (A+) are the names for the 40 man roster of the "italian" team. although is not competely fair, WBC is a way to introduce baseball in a country like mine (italy) in which it has no place on tv or newspaper. seeing some mlb talent with the azzurri jersey can be a good promo for baseball. if we had to count only on our players i fear we never will be invited again to this kermesse... (dreaming rillo playing for italy)
  5. i'd like aaron miles, for me it's the perfect fit.
  6. i don't think braun or even hart can play average CF. if a move for ryan is needed, why don't put him back at third? if we don't obtain any good pitcher, in a "no win now" situation that's a move i would think about..
  7. is there a chance to see the full event via streaming by now?
  8. unbelievable. we made it! my heart is pumping adrenaline for 5 ours, i think i lost my sleep for the reminder of 2008. a great hug for the brewers fan all over the world.

  10. a little help came from italy too. thanx guys for this forum
  11. i was shocked, i didn't realized it. maybe with all the veggies he started to eat it is only gas that doubled is size, maybe is lighter than air, that's tha answer for his lack of power
  12. in the comments on the JS article a couple of days ago, there was this great quote: "what's the french for turnbow?" "gagnè"
  13. here's my list, it will be pretty understandable that i don't think these are the best of most significant players, just my favorite...well that's what the thread's at gallardo hart turnblow (if you consider brewers organization) braun mota
  14. i became a brewer fan for..the beer! it started slow but since 2004 and with mlb.tv it became much worse. now i am an addict, i don't know anyone else in italy who is a brewers fan (actually i know only a few who are BASEBALL fans) most of the guys are yankees or red sox fan, but i like to be one of a kind! i never thought we can be into a playoff run but now i m so exited (and sleepless because the games are in the middle of the night). my avatar is cirillo striking out counsell last year!
  15. no way italy is behind new zeland!!! i'm on this board 365 days a year. i can't improve!
  16. I am used to soccer players celebrations. I grew up with that stuff: - batistuta mime of a machine gun - gilardino playing a violin - bobo vieri was the first who took away the shirt - ruben sosa sliding on the grass - montella doing the airplane - thomas brolin and his 360 spin - cassano kicking the corner flag - alan shearer raised his left hand - luca toni makes a move with the hand near his ear that in italy stands for "did you get it?" - robbie fowler sniffing the chalk line like it was cocaine...(actually it was only once but..) i can go forever with this list becouse every soccer player in the world has now a personal way to celebrate a scoring. I know there's a ocean (well, actually there is..) between soccer and baseball, but i have no problem at all with (baseball) players posing a bit and/or showing excitement. If they are Brewers I celebrate with them (i wonder if one of us was classy yesterday after braun's shot..) if not breweres, i accept it, and that's it.
  17. ok, guys just put this thread in the back of your brain and remember it the day you'd come nearby.
  18. i live in genova (1 1/2 from france border, 1 hr from milan, 2 from florence, 35 min to Portofino & Camogli) any brewerfan coming? i will be glad to meet some guys from this board and have a beer and discuss brewers with one who knows what i'm talking about for the first time in my life!
  19. off topic: "el flaco" menotti (it is true, it his a italian surname) lead argentina (with some help from the regime and the refrees too) to win the soccer world cup in 1978. i like hime very much, he trained sampdoria (in my city, genova) at the beginning of this century and was a journalist favorite!!
  20. i am italian, so this site rappresent everything i know about the brewers, about what the fans think, the only unofficial source i really trust and enjoy. despite the fact that my english is not very good and that I see the action with ours and ours of jet lag (though some nights i stay sleepless watching the game) i don't write as much as i would but i watch this board every single day. thanks to everyone.
  21. http://i15.tinypic.com/2u3z6yr.jpg red brigades, bad people!
  22. a professional athlete is aspected to be 100% after 4 to 6 months since acl surgery. there are cases in which the rehabilitation is much more quicker. Roberto Baggio (one of the greatest italian soccer players) returned after 100 days. http://www.nonsoloparole.com/Public/accadde/dettagli.asp?ID=391 (in italian) i asked tom h. what's the status of Yo, hope the next mailbag'll give an answer...
  23. yes, david eckstein plays with passion... instead dunn can only hit the ball out of the park... hey, aren't the blue jays a franchise with power problems? this sounds absurd..hey JP, wake up!
