  1. Monty wonderful post with great information and things to think about. Jenks and Mench should be higher than a lot of LFers as they are being batting against pitchers they should hit. Does not suprise me one bit he is at 13 in rankings. Now let him play against lefties and that number will start to drop. I'm all for Holliday just think Bush or Cappy are going to have to be part of the deal and some younger talent.
  2. I'm tired of hearing that Geoff Jenkins was an all star. Every team gets at least one guy on the team even if there is not a player that deserves based on his stats.
  3. I think Bush gets sent out of town as he would bring some value back. Team is going to need a LFer next year with via trade or free agency. Vargas #2 Cappy#3 I think Cappy has more value than Vargas. When considering trades you have to think of the value that the team is looking to get in return.
  4. Brewers will be able to find a LFer in the offseason, either FA or trade. Free agents will come here with the team being in the mix for a title the next couple of years. Have people forgotten that Sal Bando has left the building years ago?
  5. The throw to 3B was the only real chance of getting out of the inning. Take another look at the play and you will see that the batter was only a couple of steps up the line when Grant gets the ball. Bill even thought the play was at third until he looked at the replay. It was a guy that was trying to make a big play and not take the sure out. I will put some blame also on Johnny as he is suppose to be directing traffic out there.
  6. Braun is more of a hitter that has power, were Prince is a power hitter. Braun is a guy that will hit for average and be on base for Prince when he comes up. They need to be in these spots each and every day.
  7. Jenks is going to be out the door at the end of the season, I wish I was there to see him walk out the door so I could cheer as he will finally be out of a Brewer uniform. In 2005 while Jenks tanked the first half of the season Carlos Lee carried the team on his back. August 2005 when there was no meaningful games Jenks got hot and carried the team back up the standing. Jenks gets a lot of love because he is a supposed 2nd half player, I have yet to see that. IMO he is a great player when his team is out of the pennat chase and there is no pressure. Jenks will never be on my list of all time great Brewers. He has been over rated and over loved way too long. Vern= http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/devil.gif
  8. Three Mariner starters with 10+ starts: Weaver: 2-8; 6.19 Baek: 3-3; 5.74 Ramirez: 5-3; 6.75 King Felix was injured early this year and Bastista has been their best pitcher of late, plus through in Washburn and you are looking at the backend of the rotation that you posted. And you guys tell me they couldn't use a Capuano or a Bush with the market for starting pitching being what it is? Yes maybe the Brewers would have to include a sweetener but they do need starting pitching. I would say you are goint to have to give them another young SP or an infield stick. Beltre has not done the job and Sexson could soon be gone. The Mariners have two outstanding OF prospects, Adam Jones, a 22 year old who has 24 HR and 81 RBI to go along with a .318 BA at AAA and Wladimir Balentin, 23, who has 21 HR and 70 RBI and a .310 BA also at AAA so they are pretty well covered to replace Ibanez and Guillen (if he opts out of his contract). I don't see them replacing Sexson at 1B until his contract runs out after next season. Broussard is a proven solid DH and 1B option as well. Ibanex will be moved to DH and Guillen has stated he wants to stay. If the Mariners believe that Broussard is going to be a solid option at 1B to replace Sexson they will be in trouble. He is at best a platoon player. They could move Clement there and be better.
  9. Time to move Balfour out of the pen and away from this team. Team is in the pennant race and a guy like this is not going to be any help to the team. The throw to 3rd base was just plain stupid. You go get the easy out.
  10. I think a starter for a starter not named Ben, Yovanni, Manny, Carlos, or Will would work with me. This would work for the Brewers, but to get talent you have to give up something. Suppan isn't going to get it done, not sure Cappy would even get it done. They are getting rid of a solid all around catcher those things dont come cheap. I wonder what either side would say to Parra or Inman for Clement? This is very interesting. Parra would be able to help out almost from the start, but his ceiling as high as Inman. Do the Marinters want to wait for Inman to get up to the bigs and risk him being injured before he gets up to the bigs?
  11. Joe Kennedy would be a nice fit for this team. He could be a swingman or could just be the LOOGY and Shouse gets axed.
  12. Like was stated, Seattles pitching is horrible and they really don't need two starting caliber catchers. The Brewers really didn't have any more of a reason to trade Overbay than Seattle does here... They have good enough arms for that park. With that big park they don't need a bunch of dominating pitchers and I'm not so sure unless we send them Bush, Sheets, or Yo that they are upgrading the pitching staff.
  13. After every single at bat he had here, which for the most part was unsuccessful, he would take his sweet sweet time walking to the dugout, pouting the entire way. He misplayed several balls in the outfield, and showed poor plate discipline. The last thing the Brewers need to add is a whiney overrated outfielder who thinks 40,000 people payed to see his circus of a baseball game. I agree because we have the left handed version of this in Jenkins. Poor plate discipline, misplaying balls in the outfield and being overrated as a player.
  14. So is Benoit's value greater or lesser than Otsuka? Otsuka has a much better track record and has more closing experience, but it seems right now that trading Benoit would be "selling high" for the Rangers, while the injured Otsuka would be "selling low." Why would you want Otsuka right now with his arm problems he may not even help the team and you have given up a prospect for him. Still would send Gywnn for Benoit to the Rangers.
  15. I stated this the second they picked Yi, bad choice. Don't know you it is but for some reason it is going to be a tough sell getting him to play in Milwaukee. Agent , Yi, or the chinese are just making this way to tough. Should have taken Brewer who can play the 3 and clamp down on defense than a project that has a mob of people giving him information.
  16. Would be a very nice pickup. I don't think he's got enough of a track record that we'd be able to ink him as our '08 closer, but he'd be an option and a nice boost for this season. Turnbow was not considered a closer to the spring of 05 and had no track record that would show he would have such a great season.
  17. Now Graffy and Counsell are decent fill-ins, but Castillo is an everyday top of the order type 2nd baseman. He has an OPS of 714 compared to Graff 745. Castillo would add some speed at the two spot., but he is no the stick that Graff is. Remeber Graff started off terribly this season also. Right now I would let Graffy be the starting 2B about 80% of the time and fill in with Weeks and Counsell. Plus when you start Graffy or Counsell, your bench is weakened. Weeks is on the bench and he would take the place of the other. He may only play 2B, but the other guys can move around when he plays. Another factor to consider is that Counsell may be needed more to spell the slumping Hardy as he did yesterday. Counsell will spell him here and there, but that will not be a major deal IMO.
  18. Braun - Stud corner that looks to be top end of his pos. Prince- I think there is a good chance he is around for a while Hardy- Defense and above avg stick at SS hard to come by Yo - Looks to be meeting his clippings Hart - good power and speed in the OF spot
  19. What spot would he fill on this team? We have Counsell, Graff and Weeks to play there. Castillo is second baseman, and that is it. Unless you thinks Weeks is shot for the season there is no way Brewers should be looking at Catstillo.
  20. My thought was to rotate all three young 'uns. I don't know how you'd pull that off logistically, but maybe have Parra take a start or two, Villanueva a start or two, and then Gallardo can have the rest. This would be a nightmare the pen. Yost would have to hold back guys because he was going to start them in a couple of days and have two less arms in the pen if you count the guy that started and was moving to the pen.
  21. So after last nights performance are people still on the bus that wants to move Cappy out of town?? Seems to me him and Suppan will be the keys to keeping this lead.
  22. The other guy in the picture would have to be Rottino (.288 / .362 / .443 / .805), which I don't think anyone here would really have a problem with. I have an issue with bringing a player up that has a very average stick and a frying pan for a glove to fill any void on this roster. Sept 1st would be the first day he should be on the roster.
  23. I don't understand why so many want Vargas to be Traded? He is not flashy, not a drafted Brewer, came over for a guy that was loved on this site ( Doug Davis). Vasquez or Contreas.
  24. Pitching the system for now if they falter I would go after Contreas or Vasquez as a pitcher with playoff experience would help.
  25. Would do it in a hearbeat. Holliday is one of the most under rated OFers in the game. Big right handed stick to bat behind Prince and replace Jenks once and for all. Don't see Rockies wanting Mench but the other two would be a starting point.
