  1. I don't see Miller going anywhere unless some one overpays for him. He is a solid, cheap, vet catcher. We learned last year that qaulity depth is needed. Riviera had a nice run, but he has done the same thing in the past and never kept it for extended periods.
  2. When I first heard about this new steroids list coming out (I'm sure there will be a Major League thread soon), for some reason I just got a horrible feeling that Jenkins is going to be on that list My buddy and I thought about this last summer. I think he might not be on the list but he was taking amphedamines, and I'm not sure that would put him on the list. I know a lot of writers were talking about players being more relaxed in the batters box as they most likely were not jacked up. I be much more afraid about the guy who has a huge head and who has had his stats go down since he turned 25. and also the same guy whose feet grew another size last year - which I understand could be a sign of HGH use (along with the head thing). Maybe he had his career year already?? Maybe he had tough time in the new league. He has always had that huge head so that his no reason to assume usage.
  3. And as far as saying Cano is not as good as his numbers, can you actually prove that? Does being in a star studded lineup automatically make a mediocre player put up superstar level numbers. The burden of proof is on you to prove that he is just a mediocre player, and so far I've seen nothing to disprove the fact that the guy hit .340 and slugged over .500 as a 23 year old in the middle of the New York media circus. But pitchers must not be throwing their best pitches to him, they must be lobbing the ball to the plate because they are afraid of the rest of the Yankee lineup. I don't believe we will be able to resign Benny. In today's market he is going to probably bring in a 100 Million dollar contract. That's something the Brewers can't afford. So that's why I see us only having two more years with Sheeter. Talent wise, there isn't that wide of a gap between the two teams in this trade. If you have read the posts in the thread, while most would turn this offer down, there are some who said they would accept it. Are you calling them drunk too? So until you come up with some actual facts to prove that Cano and Hughes are trash and that their numbers are just all smoke and mirrors, you can just take all your elitist egg nog comments and shove it. First off the egg nog was a joke, sorry it was not in blue. It was holiday humor. Now lets talk baseball. Yes you sited some of the elite players that have come up from the Yankees. But there are a lot players over the past 10 years that have been pumped up in the Yankee media that have fizzled and done it in a hard way. Ruben Rivera, John-Ford Griffith, and Drew Hanson have all failed after being the top Yankee prospect. Nick Johnson has been solid but he was suppose to be a difference maker and he has not reached that status. Eric Duncan seems headed down this path and I thin that Hughes could also find that path. My feeling on Cano is that he gets better pitches and numbers because of that lineup. There is no proof in numbers right now and I will admit that. Now think about it put him in the Brewers or the Pirates lineup. Will there be as many baserunners on in front of him or as good as hitters to drive him in?? I don't think so. People can argue they that don't beleive a better lineup allows players to see better pitches, it happens pitchers would rather pitch to Cano instead of Sheff or Jeter. Thus they will see better pitches to hit. No a pitcher is not going to lob it in but they may not throw there best pitch because they think they can get it by him. Maybe I am hoping for too much but, I think that Mark A wants a winner and knows they will have to pay some players to get there. IF Sheets has a healthy season I think they will start looking at paying him for the long term. I maybe in a pipe dream with that.
  4. I don't think gettin a prototype leadoff hitter is going to cure the lineup. These guys need to develop a better batting eyes so they can get some walks and see better pitches. They just need to run the bases correctly, like going from 1st - 3rd and tagging from second to get to third on a fly out to right. Little things will make them a much better team.
  5. But if Hughes goes out and shows he's a top of the rotation pitcher this year and Cano repeats or improves on his offensive numbers, I guess I wouldn't see the Yankees as being willing to make this kind of trade. I guess the big question is whether two years of Sheets is better than 4 years of Cano and 6 years of Hughes (and add to that the players we could sign with the money saved in the deal). Why do we only get Sheets for 2 years?? You are assuming that the Brewers will not resign Sheets. Brewers showed something last weekend that they will be spending money if they believe the player is worth it. Sheets stays healthy and pitches like his talent is I do not see them letting him get out the door. Cano had a great year no issue with it, but he is not as good as his numbers were. He is in a great lineup and that pumps up his numbers, he would not see as good as pitches or as number of baserunners on in Milwaukee. Hughes to me seems like a player that could be part of the media machine frenzy that comes with a lot of Yankee prospects and fail when they get to the big leagues. He has proven nothing in the majors yet, so I don't see the reason for giving up one of our top pitchers for him. I stick by the egg nog statement.
  6. Too much egg nog if you think this is a fair deal.
  7. That's probably what Dalton was thinking when he signed Higuera (a much better pitcher than Suppan) in '90. The end result of that was losing Molitor. If Suppan were to get hurt or go Jaimie Navarro on us, they will be stuck with him, and hence will have a convenient excuse for their inability to put a competitve offer on the table for Hall and/or Sheets. I'm sure Harry was not thinking about moving Teddy, he was the ace back then. But Brewer luck he blew out his arm, and in his prime Teddy has a better pitcher than Suppan. I don't think Mark A is going make an injury an excuse to not offer a contract to a player that is part of the core. Sheets is a poor example as he is the injury guy that might cost some players right now. He has a big contract and is eating up a lot of room and not producing.
  8. Marquis is not slated to be a start right now. Wood's incentives are all for relief appearances and saves. Wasn't Marmol traded this offseason? If the Cubs want Brady, they will give no more than a reliever or prospect for him. Sean Marshall is pretty darn good. No way he goes. Marquis is a starter on the Cubs, what source did you get that he is not?? Zambrano Lilly Marquis Hill Marshall/Prior They did not pay that kind of money to have him come out of the pen.
  9. Minor League Baseball Analyst" for the first time in 2006 Great book I bought it also.
  10. I like Harden alot. He can be down right filthy. His contract is very affordable. I would give up Hardy and Will Inman to get him. This would be my rotation I don't see this getting it done. Harden is a top end guy, even with the injury issue. I love Harden but I don't give up Hall for him.
  11. All this talk is should just about over. L-Gonzo signing means they do not need a Corner OF guy. I read that they maybe putting Penny with a prospect to get Vernon Wells. Don't know how much sense it makes as the just signed Pierre to play CF.
  12. Anytime the Braves trade a pitcher I have the feeling that he is done.
  13. i guess maybe i'm a little optimistic about the ability of that lineup to produce runs. TGJ and Graffy set a good table for... Hart (20-25 HRs, Hall 30-40 HRs, and Jenkins 18-23 HRs) Braun is a wild card in this lineup (10-30 HRs) Koskie and Estrada make a solid 7 and 8 hitter. I know Prince is going to be our key source of run production this season, but the Plenty of holes in this lineup. TGJ and Graf at the top could be a huge issue. Graf would be a solid 2 hitter, but he will not have someone on base in from of him. I think the power numbers are a little high for what is listed, I think they lower ones would be actually high for all 3 of them.
  14. I don't get how anybody thinks we can get more. Everybody on these boards were convinced that both of these guys hurt our team in the second half last year. I personally winced every time either of them played. Especially Turnbow. We get a servicable starter for guys that should be on the scrap heap. Talk about "homers". T-Bow is not on the scrap heap. He has a lot of time left. Closers go through rough periods during careers. Mench still has some upside and going to that park should hit 30 HRs in his sleep. I think Jenks is on a downward trend and just about done. My feeling is we should be able to get Lieber do to his age for just one of these guys not two of them.
  15. What else is new? I wonder how hanging on to Joel Hanrahan, Edwin Jackson and Greg Miller worked out for them. Jackson got send off to D-Rays last spring for Baez. Jackson has actually gone down the last couple of years. I'm a little confused on the Dodgers....they have Ethier and Kemp with Pierre in the OF...but they want to add one. Are they not sold on Kemp or something? I think McCourt (owner) is feeling fan pressure to produce a World Series winner. Hell if they could win a playoff series it would be an upgrade. I do know that they think Kemp growth was stunted by being called up last year.
  16. The Philadelphia Inquirer says a deal sending Jon Lieber to Milwaukee for Kevin Mench and Derrick Turnbow is in place, pending the result of the Phillies' negotiations with the White Sox. We should get more than Lieber if we are giving up those to players.
  17. I'd say banking on a guy that will be 37 at the start of 2007 to rebound in any way is quite unlikely. He's had two poor years out of the last three (his 2004 ERA is quite deceptive). His last two years are moer deceptive as he played in the bandbox in Philly. He has better numbers on the road than at home. 2004 is based on him playing in a better home park and having a great second half. Lieber is a better second half pitcher a la Jenks is supposedly as a hitter. I don't think anyone is banking on him just that he would ne a nice veteran on the staff to stablize the bottom part of the order.
  18. No way do we deal Weeks for this. You are giving up one of the cornerstone players. Kamir is a top end talent but his durability still has some questions.
  19. I'd take Rowand off of their hands for that. I'd also like to have Zito, but not if meant our bench was made up of Chris Barnwell, Chad Moeller, Luis Lopez, Angel Echavarria and James Mouton. I agree with taking Rowand off them. Add a little grit to this team and another bat. OF becomes a little more flexibility. Reality is we cannot have Zito. And after last years horrible showing and RyDog's proposed bench I know we need the help there.
  20. I understand the feelings about having a solid bench, but I don't think the Brewers have any chance any year if they have to rely on their bench too much. Besides, there are bench bargains out there every year. No one is saying that we need to rely on the bench. It would be better for when we rest players or for the short term injuries. Contending teams have a couple decent players on the bench. Only spot to put a big time player would be in a corner OF in Hall is moving to CF. Cost of them right now is insane. Lets see what Lieber does outside of the Philly band box.
  21. I'm all for it, but didn't realize Penny was even remotely available to anybody. If he is, I'm sure the Dodgers will want a boatload in return, which I don't believe the Brewers have or could afford Speculation is he is being shopped because of his run ins with management last year. Took get him in Brew town it would take a pretty penny and I'm not sure that the Brewers will pay it.
  22. $16,550,000 and counting. That's what the Brewers would be paying the following aging players if this deal goes down: Lieber $7,500,000 Miller $2,250,000 Clark $3,800,000 Counsell $3,000,000 Wow. All that for players past their prime who's production could be matched by minimum or close to minimum salary guys. Throw in Graffanino (another backup) and you have to wonder if that money would be better spent on one premium type player. Spending for spending sake. Not a route I would take That one premuim player would not give us solid depth. Miller backup C instead of Moeller. 4th OF Clark instead of some of the clowns that we have had ove the last couple years. Counsell backup INF needed as Hall will be fulltime. With out these players we would have Barnwell, Gwynn, and Riviera on the bench. WOW really got a lot talent if we have an injury. These guys would not match the veterans, and it is not spending for the sake of spending.
  23. Brady Clark Tony Gwynn Jr. Zach Jackson If the Rockies want a corner OFer we could offer: Geoff Jenkins Zach Jackson Rockies get screwed on the first proposal. They don't even get a solid OF they can start. Jackson would be a decent option. 2nd proposal is fair.
  24. We now already have Claudio Vargas, so there's no need to get an average young starting pitcher with multiple years remaining. Well that is not right, you can never have enough pitching. After last year we can stock arms we should, brining little Ben to pitch for stretch kills us.
  25. i wouldn't trade him only cause he has the potential to turn things around and you won't get equal value for him right now. This is the only reason I do not want to give up T-Bow. He is still young enought to get it back together. Right now we are not going to get good value for him. Crisp is not worth it unless it is straight up for Jenks.
