  1. Bush is certainly on a hot streak right now and has to be road for it. When Soup is back I say McClung to the pen to help out in the 6/7 inning. Suppan is not going to be much help in the pen unless he is the long man/spot starter. C-Vill needs to take over the 8th for this team. Blue Jays sure could use Bush now with the injuries their staff is racking up.
  2. Sexson will get picked up by a team in the playoff chase, with hope that he can turn it around. Brewers are not one of those teams since they are set at 1B and there is no DH in the NL.
  3. TBad The whole baseball market is screwed up because there is no cap and the big market teams can sign just about any one they want. Maybe the Brewers should just forget about trying to field a winning team since it will cost too much. Can you imagine that coming out of Mark A's mouth and the reaction of the fan base? Brewers hepled the team with in the structure of baseball and it is financial setting. The other path they could have taken was to rush some younger pitchers up before they were ready or sign some really bad pitchers at really low contracts. No matter what they most likley would not have been in the spot they were last year or this year. This off season will do something to get some top of the rotation help to the team in a form of trade or free agent. He has done this each year to make this team competitive. My money is on CC going to the Dodgers this off season. For some reason I see the Bosox being the home for Sheets. I have no inside info just my gut feeling on both.
  4. Most of the Pirates young SP have not reached their potenital for the last few years. One of them seems to have a solid season but the rest of them take a step back instead of up. McClouth is having a Bill Hall type season and will not reach the numbers again, Bay name seems to carry more weight than his pure production. Trust me I think most of us would take Braun over any Pirate OFer unless you are talking a young Barry Bonds or Bobby Bonilla from the past. Pirates will stay close to the basement. Edit: Removed quote that wasn't needed. - Toby
  5. That is a steal of a deal for the Cubs IF Harden stays healthy. I cant believe that Beane got fleeced that bad on giving up Harden.
  6. Jack Z the credit for getting CC who is kidding who?? Maybe Riske should get some credit since he but the big in Melvin's ear. Melvin is the GM and the buck stops with him good or bad on all trades. His head is on the line with the moves not Jack Z. Yes Jack has helped load the farm system up with talent. He is not the only guy out on the road scouting the players, Brewers have a scouting department that does a lot of dirty work, then it goes to Jack, who goes to Melvin. From reading some of these pages you would think Jack Z is the only scout we have and makes every call at the draft table, this is just not true. I love Jack Z but I'm sure there is a list ready incase he leaves.
  7. For those of you bashing this contract please why is so bad. In the free agency year he was signed it was the same of the pitchers with his talent. Now two years later the price of those type of pitchers has gone up. IMO people rip on this contract because he is being paid more than Sheets. Yes Sheets has more talent but he took the home town discount his first time around for free agency. Sheets will get his chance this year to make the big money.
  8. I will certainly do not think with the track record of Bush and McClung, Brewers can count on them to keep up it. Neither one of these guys of keeping it together for long stretches. Suppan is closer to a 4 - 4.5 ERA guy with this team, he pitches to contact and defense is not this strong suite so he gives up more runs.
  9. This is being hashed over and over. Why would he trade Suppan when we are going to have to pay for a SP that will cost more and might be not as good. Suppan has been exactly what he was signed to do. Right now the rotation next year has these names. Yo, Suppan, Parra, Bush, and McClung that is not really great so I dont see Suppan being moved.
  10. Could care less that it makes it easy to figure out the starters for now. Would take depth of pitching no matter if Soup, Bush, or McClung was moved to the pen. I thought people would have learned you can never have enough pitching after what happen to start the season. Cappy went down, Vargas was cut, Yo started on the DL then blows out a knee, and the two young guns C-Vill and Parra struggled as SP in the begining. Sheets and Suppan were the only two guys that were dependable to start the season. Sure Melvin and Yost would have figured out who to send downl, without an injury.
  11. CC just made my top three Brewers since he shares the same birthday as my son and I. Go CC help bring us to the promise land.
  12. Perhaps it came out different from how you indended, but that's not an acceptable way of stating your opinion. Reading it back it came off way to harsh. People need to understand is in a playoff chase you have to give up something to get something of value back. Right now some posters are worried about 2 years down the road about one guy that would fill a corner OF or 1B spot. While with CC this team has to be considered maybe the team to beat in the NL. That one spot can be filled in two years from with in or free agents. This site will be a nut house if this team would make the series like they did in 82. Even if they make the playoffs the energy will be crazy. How many years do we want to keep hearing that this team is looking to the future. Brewers win the Series Melvin will be called a genuis by just about everyone for going out and gettting the right talent. For those that are minor league guys is Green's bat and glove good enough to be an every day 3B at the bigs or his is future home at 2B or some where else?
  13. Anyone that doesn't like this deal does not know what playoff baseball is about. This team has a great shot again this year and had to make a move to get them over the top. Last year the team gave up 3 average arms for a chance to save the bullpen, it did not work out. THis year the team picked up a top 10 starter in the bigs, and this will help the whole staff. Laporta being the center piece doean't concern me. Yes he has the potential to be a huge stick in the majors. Right now the team has to fill RF or 1B in the next couple years, I believe Gamel is the answer at one spot. Future is not ruined by this team as it has a lot of young talent on the team and can keep reloading with draft picks and great farm system.
  14. I think he will end up being a top end setup man that will get some chances to close some games out in his career. Just dont see his stuff being starter material.
  15. I believe Jack Z got a look from the Pirates last year. How much have we heard teams looking at him or him being on someones list? Jack seems like a guy that would be happy with staying in his job and being successfull and not dealing with all the headaches and failures that come with GMs.
  16. The Arizona deal turned out to be a stinker, but how can you possibly judge the Padres deals without seeing what the comp picks turn into? How is the Zona trade a stinker. Davis was going to get a big raise and was showing some wear, and he is not worth the money he is getting. Krynzel is lost in space some where. Eveland did nothing for D Backs and only a change of scenery helped him get his head on. It is not like we gave away guys that were helping the team.
  17. SteveO. Missing good portions of games in sequence of seasons will get you a tag of being injured. Think Harden from the A's. Bottom line he has missed games each year, only good thing it was not a arm injury. Bucky, you are right I was maybe of the Cappy is the Ace ship. I truly thought he had what it took to lead this team. He quickly has disapperared. Suppan needed to be signed or this team would have been counting a bunch of young un proven arms that have still shown they are not ready to eat up a lot of innings. Combine that with Sheets not making it through several seasons you needed the innings eater even at his cost. Suppan's contract should not effect Sheets signing, and if the Brewers wanted they could wait on locking up the young hitters till Suppan's deal runs out.
  18. Get use to this some believe Inman is 2ns coming of Greg Maddux and is already booked for success. 1. Yo 2. Blanton 3.Suppan 4. Parra 5. McCLung
  19. Hart will likely sign, and has stated his full year numbers will get him more of a fair deal. Smart for him to wait since this is his first full time year. Hart is so much better then Jenks that it is a shame that they got linked together. Hart has been hitting not when the team was out of the race like Jenks did each year.
  20. Brittle Ben has been an ace at times and at others a guy just biting his nails and robbing the Brewer front office of money. Sheets needs to be kept this year as the team does have a great chance to make the playoffs. Right now he is a top 5 pitcher in the game but at any point Brittle Ben could turn up and this team could fall from grace. My view on signing him for another contract has changed a little in that it might be a good thing, but the length would worry me. This point of Suppan's contract hurting the signing of Sheets is blown way out of water. This team had a chance to contend with Suppan in the rotation and Sheets. It has been stated before Suppan's was what the market was. Think were this team would have been without Suppan the last couple of years. Lot of the young guys would have been throwing in the majors and team would be in worse shape, as the young guys could have lost confidence or worse hurt for the time in the majors.
  21. We are seeing the real Bill Hall. Great athlete that has no strike zone judgement, makes amazing plays while goofing up the simple play. Only thing that has changed is that he is not getting a late inning hit that ends up on ESPN.
  22. Like end said no way do the Mets give up Reyes. He is so much more important to the team than Prince would be. I agree that you go after Maine first if you are trading with the Mets.
  23. Where is the Bill Hall can pitch thread, were are those posting that Hall is an all star type player. 2006 is so far away and a fluke in the career of a man named Bill Hall.
  24. End you are saying Rottino would be the backup if Kendall got hurt. Right now the way he is hitting I would rather see them do with another option. If Munson is healthy he would most likely get the call.
  25. Would be great to see Cameron batting 5th to break up the lefties, but if Ned is worried about comfort than we will see Cameron in the 6 spot. Were are going to put Gamel or LaPorte when it comes to defense? Gamel is not ready for 3B and there is not an opening in the OF for LaPorte to play. Braun got called up last year because he was killing AAA and we had a horrible bunch at 3B.
