  1. Suppan is doing what he was brought in to do. Go out and pitch every 5th day and give the team close to 6 innings. Some days will be better than others. Suppan and Cameron are whipping boys for their salaries. Coming into this offseason, I dont think anyone would have thought you could have signed Looper or Garland for how cheap they signed for. This is the only reason that Suppan is over paid as the market came back to reality for one offseason. Cameron is showing that he is well worth his salary so far, but I dont see his average staying this high all year.
  2. I thought this thread was about Cameron and trading him?? Hijacked thread. Cameron is the best option in center for the Crew. The list of players that are above him is a typical fan list. That list is full of younger players coming off good seasons. Those shiney new toys have to prove they can do it more than one season before you can put them ahead of a guy that has done it for over a decade. Hunter comparison really would be different if you take out the effect of Hunter playing in the Metrodome for years and Cameron playing in pitcher parks. I like Cameron a lot but was unaware he was that close to the great Torii Hunter.
  3. That is a slap in the face to Chris Gwynn. Chris was below average OFer but a top notch pinch hitter. Tony JR has a long ways to go before he can considered himself in Chris's stature.
  4. Hall was not and is not the best player. He had a Joe Charbenau season and some fans are still thinking he has that in him again. Hardy got sat down because he was struggling with his bat, his defense was not the issue.
  5. It was time for Hardy to be in the bigs. He was and is better defensive player and last two years is showing that he has a better stick than Mr Hall. Very few players come in to the bigs and start mashing or play gold glove D. Melvin did what was best for the player and the teams's present and future that year. He played the best overall player. Spring stats have never won a division, playoff game or World Series. Melvin's worse decision to this day is not moving Bill Hall when he had some value. He has one big year and Brewers should have gotten some value for that season with some solid pitching prospects to build up the farm. Escobar should be moved before teams discover that his bat will be lost in the bigs and he has no value also.
  6. He was given a chance but never performed at a level that would give him a shot in the bigs. Take a look at his minor league states and please tell us what stand outs there as a big league skill?? Only thing that I see is that he could be a defensive replacement OFer at the big league level. Brewers dont need that type player.
  7. Jenks has maybe one more year on a roster then it should be retirement time. Not a good pinch hitter as he swings more from the heels than looking for contact.
  8. Escobar might have more range and an arm like Hardy but the first issue will he have the stick that Hardy doesn. Second issue is Escobar will not stay in Milwaukee for an extended period of time, Boras is his agent. His agent will get him to a bigger market if he is even close to playing to the pub he is getting. Escobar to me would be the guy I ship out in a major deal to get a missing piece at the trade deadline or an offseason deal for a SP. His value is high as no team has seen what flaws he will have at the big league level. Weeks keeps hitting lik he is and there will be one less infeild spot to worry about.
  9. I thought he had a couple of years left in him even if he bounced from team to team. That one pitch really did take a real toll on him.
  10. Good young starting pitcher would be the only thing I take for Hart. I was not sure what he would be when he first came up, but he has a lot of potential. There are likely some teams that look at him as a strarting OFer that would at the worst bat in the 5-6 spot each day in the lineup.
  11. "A bunch," huh? Will this >$50K or so in surgery money be the impediment to the Brew Crew adding Halladay or the like this June? I mean, I know you're just looking for reasons to pile on Sheets, but really, by being injured (which I'm sure he desires deeply, this having been his primary shot at a huge payday for him and his wife and children--but oh, he just hates the Brewers and their fans so much he wanted to stick it to us!), Big Ben probably saved the team money this season by them not having to dole out bonus money for the supplemental pick for him (cold comfort obviously, but the truth, if you're gonna complain about the surgery cost), and certainly saved them money by not signing the arbitration offered him by the Brewers (no Hoffman, no Prince arby deal). I was really hoping that Sheets would be done and over with the Brewres, I hope they dont have to pay for the surgery in the end. Have stated in the past it was time for Sheets to leave the Brewers and I also wrote that he will likely put up better numbers once out of Brew Town if he stays healthy. Sheets was jinxed in Brew Town and is entering his peak years however I dont see it happening for a couple years as he will have to recover from an injury first. Intersting point that the money saved on draft picks could be used on free agency at this point. Melvin could also use that money to sign a player above slot cost come draft time.
  12. I dont see Hall bouncing back very much. He is a free swinger and couple years ago he had that ultimate season and now he is playing to the level of player he is. I dont see him moving back to CF while with the Brewers, he did not look comfortable at anytime while out there. Yes it was one season, but for him to change back would hurt him even more. I recall a lot of people blaming his weak batting in 07 on him playing a new spot on defense and his ankle injury. IF you move him back does his bat once again suffer?? Hall's best spot is as super sub in the infield and from time to time roaming the outfield. His stick gets exposed with the day to day play, and hurts the team. His defense is at best average as he doesn't get good reads of the bat, which sucks because he should have more range with his athletic ability.
  13. One of the top Sheeter Haters on the board and I can say that Sheets has once again stolen from the Brewers. No picks as his arm has crumbled and once again a part of Ben's body has broken down. There are rumors out there that he may have done some damage in an off season work. Off season workout and Ben Sheets usually do not go together, however I could see him trying to get in shape so that he could get a big contract. Really glad that Sheets will be costing the Brewers a bunch of money this year. Really sucks that Brewers have been the biggest losers this off season as CC and Sheets leave and team only gets a sandwich pick and 2nd rounder. Farm sytem will not be recharged like it should have been coming into this offseason.
  14. Bill Hall has very limited trade value at this point. He is at best average 3rd baseman in the field, and is below average up the middle when it comes to defense. His batting eye will never change so he has to get lucky with his guess hitting, and the last two years he has not been on. Hall has turned some great physical skills into a decent ball player, he is not going to become the big time player some thought he would be. He has had his best season and will be closer to what he was last year than any other type player. If the Brewers could get a #3 type pitcher I would be elated for them and the staff, more likely they would get an over price #4 starter if they are looking for an arm.
  15. Have loved Mulder for years but his career is all but done. Garcia might be a better option but not sure he has much left in the tank either.
  16. I dont know Sheets on a personal level, so I can't tell you if I would like him on that level. On him being a Brewer I just dont think he has reached the level of success that his skill set says he should have. I'm also the guy that ragged on Bill Hall a couple of years ago when every one was claiming he was going to be an all star players for the coming years. Took a ton of heat for that and now very few people are ranting how good Bill Hall is. We dont see the "Can Bill Hall Pitch" thread getting pumped up. Each one of us has a different look at players, like it or not this is how it works.
  17. Pie, Adam Jones, and Markaisis could form a very string OF for a long period of time. O's are starting to make moves so that the near future the will have a lot of talent on the field.
  18. During the fall I'm not on this board unless there is something going. Hang out at a Packer board. We will not miss Sheets as he will miss a portion of the season again with some injury. But then again being injury prone is not part of Sheets history.
  19. No when an ace of the staff puts up the same number of innings as 4th starter down the stretch I have an issue. Sheets was paid to carry the staff and he did not do it again. Suppan eats up the same amount of innings and gets blasted because they were not quality. Bottom line these guys are sent out to pitch and Sheets was doing that job the same amount as Suppan. Why is it that Sheets gets a pass too much based on what he might or could have done. I will be glad the day he finally is signed by another team.
  20. Eventually Hardy can be moved to 3B but right now he has to muc value as a SS to move him. He gets to enough balls to be a plus defender and his big arm makes plays from the hole that others can not make. Escobar needs to be able to hit pretty good if he is going to be the plus player that Hardy is. Escobar may have more range but I have not heard that he has a big arm as Hardy, and I dont see his stick having the pop that Hardy does.
  21. He gave this team almost the same amount of innings that Suppan did, and won less games. Wins are not a great tool for pitchers and that is what we hear all the time. Most of Sheets value came from the 1st half numbers, once again Ben could not put a complete season together and it was a chance to really put the Brewers to a new level last year. There are not a lot of teams knocking the doors down to get Sheets signed right now. For all his talent you hear about and yet he is still sitting on the sideline without a team. Could it be that a lot teams see a guy that is good for a half year, maybe it is a string of injuries that he has had, or maybe teams feel he isn't as talented as a lot of people do.
  22. Based on his salary he was not earning what he was being paid for. He should have had numbers slightly less than what CC was putting up. Under 6IP during the stretch run is above average for a #1 or #2 pitcher in the rotation. This is a good reason the bullpen suffers as they have to start pulling innings when the #2 starter struggles to get to the 6inning time after time. Recall that Bush was getting bashed on this board last year as he struggled time after time to get deep into games, and yet because Sheets is putting the same numbers he is considered to be a much better option.
  23. <------Blood boiling, smoke emanating from ears, slowing counting to ten... Okay, I'm good. These type of numbers make my blood boil. 2nd Half IPs CC 139 Bush 94 Sheets 87 Suppan 84 Parra 79 2nd Half wins CC 11 Suppan 6 Bush 5 Sheets 4 Parra 2 2nd Half ERA CC 1.82 Bush 3.34 Sheets 3.41 Parra 4.88 Suppan 5.98 For a guy getting paid like a top pitcher he was not performing like one. He also averaged under 6 IP in the second half of the season. For the bashing that goes on about Suppan why do people cut Sheets so much slack?? I dont doubt he has talent but he has not put it all together but for maybe two seasons. For all that money and his highest rank was 3rd on some key stats for a secong half that his team was in a playoff push? Sheets has a top end 1st half but come the second half and another stud pitcher on the staff he came closer to being an average pitcher than stepping his game up.
  24. Young has agreed to move over to 3B so this is becoming a non issue. My buddy is a huge Young fan and he is souring on him lately as the numbers are just not there.
  25. I would move Escobar in a young arm or young OFer for Verlander. He has been loosing some velocity but I think if he was not abused like Leyand has done, he would bounce back.
