  1. Looking at game logs though, it's not that bad. In June and July, he had 4 starts of 5IP, 5 of 6IP, and one 6.2 (in fairness, April-May were much more heavily ~5IP).
  2. Yelich has sat against lefties plenty of times. You're right that maybe the day off is playing into Murphy's decision.
  3. Yeah that's totally defensible. What is much more questionable is Yelich DHing instead of Jansen,
  4. Assuming this isn't sarcasm, it would certainly be convenient if all other GMs only want the prospects we flag as iffy.
  5. Not surprised, but yes, this would be the type of game to bat Jansen. At least DH him and have Yelich off the bench.
  6. Have either of those things ever been true of our first basemen? Those are not things I would define as high on the priority list for a 1B.
  7. On the radio broadcast they relayed that it was termed "a spasm". That's at least better than a strain or pull on the face of it.
  8. That's incorrect. Quoted elsewhere, but Murphy has said Contreras will only sit if he has season-ending surgery, otherwise rest really isn't going to help that much. I would expect Jansen to see the bulk of LHP ABs since he is worlds better than Contreras in that regard.
  9. Vaughn's WAR with Chicago (610 games): -0.5 Vaughn's WAR with Milwaukee (14 games): 0.6
  10. There was a time where he seemed to have turned it around, but after a couple more weeks, one of these things is not like the other: Woof.
  11. His July OPS isn't horrible (.722), but certainly accurate that he was on fire April-May and nowhere near that since. That's the challenge with rentals - it's a gamble whether you're going to get value out of them the last couple months of the season or not.
  12. This thread has outlived its usefulness. @bigred and @BrewerFan, just let it go.
  13. I'm not saying that's a bad idea, but boy, if Vaughn can keep this up, we don't have a 1B problem.
  14. While not belaboring the point too much, I think a ~4 ERA from a 5th starter is pretty great. If you assume that's 5-6 innings a start, you're talking less than 3 runs a start (obviously it doesn't actually work out like that). I'd take that every single time. Could Cortes do that? Of course? Could he be worse and/or have a recurrence of elbow issues in 4 starts? Also yes. I'm not saying it's obvious that Quintana will be better, I just think it's a tossup and I don't begrudge anyone for thinking otherwise or whichever way Arnold ends up going. Ideally we trade one or the other to get something out of it since we still have Patrick and Henderson (!) available.
  15. Still rocking a 1.058 OPS as a Brewer. Civale has thrown 11 scoreless over his last two starts, but you obviously make this trade every single time and I don't think Vaughn has done anything to make me trust Hoskins over him when he is healthy again.
  16. But I think that's part of the problem. No one is inherently against getting someone. But it's hard to debate "We should get Suarez, he won't cost that much" other than saying "yes he will". What package would you be willing to provide that you think is fair? It's not about an expiring contract. Suarez is indisputably the top bat available, for good reason. He is wanted by multiple teams. That will drive the price up, since that's how markets work. What's your guess at what the Brewers would have to give up to get him? My guess is if you don't think it will take that much, everyone one else would also be fine giving up those prospects for Suarez, but it's hard to react to something that you choose not to provide.
  17. It's not obvious to me at all. Since giving up a grand slam in the playoffs last year Cortes has done very little to elicit confidence that he's going to be effective. To me it's very much a coin flip. Quintana has a track record, as noted in the article. Over 2 months either one could end up being the more effective of the two.
  18. Classic 2025 start for Freddy. Lots of baserunners, but 9K, 1R, hard to argue with the results.
