  1. Calm down. But I was thinking of Bulldog boy who consistently spells it Montesario.
  2. If Murph just wants a lefty to force Counsell to sit Busch and wasn't trying to go multiple, I think you just put Koenig in there and then run Miz or Patrick in some order. Especially since they've really only done damage in the first inning (I'm not going to count Gasser), I think we need a good start for once - that's one reason I'd rather not start Miz because we could find ourself in exactly the same situation if he's not finding the plate. At the end of the day though, there's no starter going here, so it's just a matter of getting 27 outs without them scoring more runs than we do. I don't care about the order or how many pitchers it takes. The A team needs to execute, and if they do, I like our chances.
  3. Yeah, maybe not at this point. You have a stronger argument that using Rea for mopup duty was mismanagement. He's had one truly bad start in the last 2+ months.
  4. That's a great call, I hadn't thought to look if Philly was playing the Thurs night game, but I'm sure you're right.
  5. I mean, the bullpen hasn't allowed a run, so it would be hard for it to look better. And they can make a different decision for the NLCS, if/when we get there.
  6. Looking at Boyd's game logs, if the Brewers win this there'll be a ton of second guessing by Chicago media/fans. He was lights out June and most of July, and then starting 7/28 he's been downright mediocre at best, with some pretty terrible outings mixed in (2 of which were thanks to the Brewers). Famous last words, of course, but I'm not at all disappointed to see him going back out there, especially since we already beat him up G1.
  7. So it's relatively common for the team that's ahead to lose game 3, but typically they come back and close it out in G4.
  8. FWIW (h/t McCalvy), of the 34 previous teams to lose Games 1-2 on the road in a Division Series with the current 2-2-1 format (through 2024), 14 forced a Game 4. Of those 14, five also forced a winner-take-all Game 5, and three completed the comeback.
  9. Get that loser mentality outta here. :)
  10. It really is, though. The probability of the Brewers sweeping this series was low (same as the probability of the Cubs winning games 3-5), so it's not surprising that they won a game.
  11. It's a huge credit to our bullpen that that's actually a true statement for this whole series.
  12. Yeah, if Counsell is willing to sit Busch I'm all in favor of that, unless Freddy strongly dislikes it.
  13. Let's move discussion into the G4 thread.
  14. If I'm the Mariners I'm not feeling great about a G5 against Skubal, although they did manage to pull it off before.
  15. I've been thinking about that the last couple days as well. In general, I would say we tend to view decisions from a risk averse perspective. Playoffs are a different animal of course because the stakes are much higher, but even in the regular season, we tend not to take the long view. From a manager's perspective though, it's not only about winning the game, it's developing the players on your team. I imagine there are times where the manager is thinking "boy, I have no idea if this guy can actually do this or not," but they also know that you have to put the player in the situation to find out, and the very act of doing that is what allows the player to succeed. It's much easier to nitpick from the sidelines than be the actual leader making the decisions.
  16. You're probably right, but if we lose 3-1 the pitchers aren't the problem.
  17. Which hypothetical big bat would fit given our current big bats and the positions they occupy? And would the marginal upgrade be worth it for a team that, yes, has to consider the financial limits within which they operate? Of all the years, this is the most reasonable one to say, "You know what, we're just going to run it back because we're better than everyone else and our young players are just going to get better."
  18. Per the Brewers site: "Single-game tickets for the NL Championship Series and World Series will be available for purchase at a later date. Continue to check back for more details." I'd expect that yes, there will be seats available for more than SSH paid, but less than crazy prices on the secondary sites.
  19. The questions is how many will he have at the end of the season.
  20. That's not really relevant to this thread. Put it in the game thread if you want.
  21. That game was a ton of fun. Guys near us in the stairwell after the game were chanting "P-C-K! P-C-K!" In retrospect with the long layoff and off days, going full bullpen this game was brilliant - they needed work anyway and you don't have a game tomorrow, so almost everyone's available on Wed. As already noted, Quinn may well be pitching with the wind blowing in. Hats off to Murph.
  22. At the game, this is fun!
