  1. I think Ohtani was never actually accused of doing anything, but it's been a bit. It was his translator that he summarily fired. Regardless, he definitely wasn't taking specific actions during a game to make money.
  2. I mean, that's a first down over a set of downs. I thought Jacobs and the run game was pretty good. As they called out on TV, if Love leads Watson to the sideline on the bomb he may score; at least it's a catch and then they have time to score or at worst a short field goal. The 4th down call was so predictable (obviously, given the Eagles knew it was coming).
  3. Why are we wringing our hands over pure speculation coming from a writer? It's not even actual sourced information. So yes, they're going to speculate the usual suspects.
  4. Let's at least wait til after the game tomorrow.
  5. That's what's insane about this. So you're going to throw a ball on purpose for 5-10k? What are you even thinking?
  6. Or, you could also say the point of analytics is to accurately capture the true value of a player. That's not exploitative.
  7. Kiley projects 2/$25: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/46859761/mlb-2025-2026-top-50-free-agents-rankings-contract-projections Lower than I might have expected, but I'd absolutely be up for that. If he's right, then there's no way the Brewers extend a QO.
  8. Because the chains haven't moved yet. It's a penalty on the end of the play - you mark off the yards, then the chains move to start the new set of downs.
  9. I'm not following the leap here: They decline 3 options and their roster will be "very different"? I would say the opposite: their roster could look very similar minus perhaps some typical bullpen shuffle to what we ended the year with.
  10. Yeah that's a weird obvious typo. @Matthew Lenz?
  11. Well shoot. Legendary performance from Yamamoto.
  12. Instead of being snarky and assuming the worst, you should actually assume he really doesn't understand the comparison you were trying to make and clarify. Maybe you can be more clear instead of assigning bad intent to other people.
  13. Chourio of course. He slid to LF with his hamstring injury, but that's where he was earlier in the season.
  14. Let's keep this on the World Series, not Brewers players. Toward that end: "The Toronto Blue Jays' 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night averaged 14.81 million viewers on Fox, Fox Deportes and streaming, according to Nielsen. That made it the most-watched game of this year's Fall Classic and the second most-viewed Game 4 since 2018. Last year's fourth game between the Dodgers and New York Yankees averaged 16.28 million." https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/46786703/blue-jays-game-4-win-dodgers-draws-1481m-us-viewers
  15. Fun WS stat:
  16. You could argue it's just the Blue Jays that are the difference, but I think Snell's WS outings aren't near what he did against the Brewers. Yamamoto was equally as brilliant. Still, credit to Toronto for putting together quality at bats, which the Brewers were unable to do.
  17. I believe it was on one of the broadcasts where they noted that 25% of Canada was watching the game before or something like that.
  18. Right. One, a popular national show is going to do better than the World Series which stretches over 4-7 games, unlike the Super Bowl, which is a single game. Also, interest is going to drop to some extent as fans' teams drop out. Overall viewership of the postseason was way up: "Through the League Championship Series, MLB Postseason viewership is averaging 4.48 million viewers in the United States, making it the most-watched Postseason since 2017 and an increase of +13% over last year."
  19. The time of the game was 6 hours 39 minutes. I didn't say this game specifically the 10th inning of this game began at 10pm, what I said was "Under normal circumstances that would finish by 10p." That's an accurate statement. Game times have been well under 3 hours since the pitch clock. Whether it's 10:00, 10:20, whatever. If the game had been 9 innings, it would have been over at a reasonable time. The only people that lose in a long extra inning game are those that are put out because they didn't get to see the end. For everyone else it's just bonus baseball, bonus eyeballs on TVs, etc. My life is the better for seeing some epic performances from random Joes like Will Klein to GOATs like Shoehei and Freddie. I'll trade some sleep for that any day. (And it's fine if you disagree, you just get to choose to go to bed. :))
  20. What exactly is your complaint? The game started at 7p CT. Under normal circumstances that would finish by 10p. The Super Bowl isn't a 6 hour game. If viewership drops off, oh well, but I guarantee you a ton of people across the country (especially in LA) stayed up to watch this. Forcing an early end (e.g., Manfred runner) to mollify people that want to go to bed doesn't make sense to me at all.
  21. Feels like a bit of a strawman though. How many players in line for tens of millions of dollars are making that argument? But regardless, my point is it seems like you're saying "since Woody's already made $30M (or really $15M), he won't care about how much his next contract is and can offer a massive discount to the team. That's obviously not how it works. If the Brewers are in the neighborhood of other offers, I'm sure he'll take it. If they're not, he'll be playing somewhere else.
  22. I wish we could've seen a new longest game and Yamamoto coming in to pitch the 19th, but it was still incredible.
  23. Man on 2nd is only a regular season thing. Boy, the Blue Jays play 15 in the ALCS and 16+ in the WS...
  24. Career .871 OPS vs RH, .759 vs LH 2025 was much worse: .860 vs .660. 2024 he was over .900 both ways.
  25. Well, after taxes he has significantly less than that already. But I'm not sure what relevance that ever has for someone seeking a new contract.
