  1. I don't know if anyone was listening but this morning in the 10 o'clock hour, the radio guys over on WSSP were talking about this very issue and in fact referred to this site and specifically ecjimg's initial post. As a matter of fact he read ecjimg's post on the air. Just thought you might want to know that you are famous.
  2. I'm positive that during the post season MLB - and not the home team - decides whether or not to open/close the roof. I'll look and see if I can find anything to back this up, but I am fairly certain this is true. I seem to recall this being an issue a few years ago with the Astros. ---------------------------------------------- Okay a few googles later.... Apparently the first time MLB decided that this was their call was back in 2001 when they ordered the Diamondbacks to keep the dome open at the BOB. A few years later, in 2005, the Astros, who had a much better record with the roof closed wanted to shut the place up despite clear skies and warm weather for game three of the WS. MLB stepped in and said that there was no reason - other than the perceived home field advantage - to close the roof. The Astro's argued and said it was their roof & their call. The Commish disagreed. "MLB controls the postseason, certainly the World Series," Selig said. The roof was open for game three and the Astros lost 7-5. Later the Astros owner said it was a joint decision between his club and the Commissioner, but MLB maintains that they have full authority..
  3. I second that. I sat in the upper deck of the Metrodome 2 weeks ago and watched him take batting practice. He launched balls way up in the upper deck. You should have heard the Twins fans ohhh'ing & ahhhh'ing. It was truly a sight. I used my phone to capture one of those bombs. Prince BP
  4. Yeah, I hoped he would skip it but this article makes it pretty clear he wants to participate. "Prince Fielder sheepishly admits he never was a big fan of the Major League All-Star Game. He preferred the Home Run Derby. Well, the Brewers' emotional and statistical leader is about to get the opportunity to take part in both. Fielder has said previously that he would love to participate in the State Farm Home Run Derby, though that lineup will not be finalized until closer to the event."

  6. I was going off of the Brewers website. But your right, with a little more looking I found two site confirming that he did make the team. My bad. Edit: Funny, I thats the page I found to confirm what you said.
  7. In '82 we had 3 players go, Cecil Cooper, Ben Oglivie & Robin Yount. I think Yount was the top vote getter. In 1983 we had 4 players, Cecil Cooper, Ben Oglivie, Ted Simmons & Robin Yount We also had 4 in 1980 with Cecil Cooper, Paul Molitor, Ben Oglivie & Robin Yount.
  8. Yeah, but the Braves are on TV so infrequently.
  9. After the game. The marlins / brsves game was delayed by rain and the AS Selection show was pushed back. On a related note, anyone else think it was a poor choice to schedule the selection show in the middle of the day on a Sunday when all but 2 teams are playing day games? Take away the rain delay and the show comes on in the middle of the most of the games in the league. If you are really interested enough to watch the selection show, your also interested in watching your teams baseball game. I bothered me when I first show the scheduled time and it's bothering me even more now that I have to sit through a Marlins Braves game (and a rain delay and now potential extra innings). Edit: When will this game end.
  10. Also, the Pirates directed FSN not to show any fans leaving the seats or to mention the walkout in any way. I think I'll watch the pirates game today just out of curiosity.
  11. People are lazy. How many people do you think really make a special trip to a local food pantry? Not many. Perhaps in an ideal world, but not this one. Second, if it makes you feel any better those are non perishable food bins. It's only going to get profitable for the store when you start tossing in frozen meals with a 39% profit margin or a nice cut of meat at 28% not the can of corn at 3%.
  12. I was reading about this last week and I think the walk out is only supposed to last for one inning. They want everyone to leave their seats in the 3rd inning and pack the concourse then return in the 4th inning. I guess it's to symbolize what actual fed up fans might do.
  13. Seems low, I thought we were pushing $70 this year.
  14. During the 2005 World Series, each fan attending game one got a XM Satellite radio, well actually a voucher for a free one as well as a commemorative pin. As far as uniforms in the post season, just quickly glancing at photos from last years post season each team seems to be wearing their primary home / road uniforms. I know baseball used to have (may still have) rules for what uniform you can wear in the All star game (remember A's players wearing different uni's in the same game?), I'd assume they have rules for the post season as well.
  15. I sometimes think about this movie when I see a player pull into the parking lot in their Hummer's & Ferrari's. I got this DVD for Christmas last year and I thought it was very good. It was interesting to see some of the behind the scenes happenings and to look at baseball through the eyes of guys in the minor leagues - and their wives. When one player is cut and has to go to Mexico because he can't catch on with any other club, his wife seemed so sad (and scared). When she talks about possibly losing their home, it really gave me a new perspective about the game at that level. Recommended!
  16. Probably because I broke mine.
  17. I have an extra pinstripe Jim Gantner & a Darron & Bill. I've got other stuff as well. I've still got a Ryan Braun game used ball (signed) to throw in the mix as well. Let me know if we can work something out.
  18. I'm going to stop beating this horse because I don't want to come off as "antiHall" (because I'm not), but yes - Hall was benched twice for not running out ground balls. I think it was back in 2005, but it might have been 2004.
  19. But you had no pictures! But back to the topic at hand, Billyhallfan, I have only a few minor league bobbles. Surhoff (already pictured), Vaughn & Bill Hall. Let me know if you need photos.
  20. I would like to finish with the best record in the NL so that no one can say we only won because we played in the weak NL Central. But I'm not going to root for any other divisional rival, at least not until we clinch the division. Also, I can't root for the Cardinals.
  21. I'm doing the same thing. Here's hoping.
  22. The thing that irked the Astros announcers was the was he flipped the ball back into the shortstop. It was their contention that, given the fact that Hall wasn't running hard, a good heads up throw would have got him. And as far as all the great things Billy does in the community - what does that have to do with him not hustling out of the box. Does he get a pass because he's a good guy? And yes he is, from all accounts, a great guy. He's one of my favorite Brewers, maybe that why I'm holding him to a high standard. And, as others have pointed out, this is not new behavior from Billy. The difference between the past and now is that Billy is looked to as a leader on this club. He's now one of the veterans. He needs to set the example. Anyone remember Hall being benched (not once, but twice) for not hustling down the line? Of course that was 3 years ago, before hall became the all star slugger he is today...
  23. Yeah, but who watches a wall scraper? If you hit a no doubter, stand there all day long, I don't care. If your trying to grind out an extra inning win against and division opponent, run until you know it's gone. And for the record, the ball hit off the bottom of the wall.
  24. "I figured it had a shot of going out. I got to second base. That's the important part." - Bill Hall Listen, I love Bill Hall, but listening to the game today, I was pretty upset when I heard Jim Powell's call. Then I watched the game on MLB.tv and the only reason Hall made it in safely was because Carlos Lee played the ball just as poorly as Billy ran the bases. As a matter of fact the Astros announcers were upset with Lee's lackadaisical effort on the play. Hall caught a lucky break today. If he gets thrown out there it might be a different outcome. This is about the 3rd of 4th time in the past week or two that I've noticed similar occurrences. I like the cockiness and the confidence, but you've got to be sure the ball leaves the ball park.
