  1. I think Schroeder just summed up this game for Yo. He's not pitching that bad, he has good stuff tonight. A couple of guys just hit good pitches.
  2. You seem to ask these questions every IGT when the Brewers are losing. "Is anyone worried that ____?" No. I think you even asked a few days when they were losing to the Astros if anyone was worried the Cardinals might catch us.
  3. Yeah I think the 8th spot is best for Yuni. Some guys feel more pressure there to clear the pitcher. But Yuni doesn't change his approach no matter the situation so I think he'd be fine there.
  4. Because Gamel should be the #1 or 2 PH off the bench. Yeah he didn't have success earlier this year but that was a small sample size. Plus, what harm would it really do, even if all he did was sit on the bench? I think he would be more upset about not even getting a call-up than getting called up and not playing much.
  5. I think someone said in the call-up thread that the service time is a non-issue. And since they have said they won't call him up, I'm rethinking my statement yesterday about him being in the future plans at 1st. Maybe he still his but you would think if that was the case, he would be called up since he's out of options next year.
  6. They were thinking more along the lines of Fiers, Gindl, and Peralta as guys who they would have to bring up along with Gamel. I don't know that Almonte or Boggs would have ever been considered. Gamel maybe would provide the most power of any guys capable of pinch hitting; but it would be a major question mark if he would actually be able to succeed at it. RR sure as heck wouln't pinch hit Gamel with the game on the line thats for sure. And that, to me, is a big problem. Roenicke seems to only judge people on what he's actually seen. Since Gamel struggled in 26 ABs this year, Roenicke would never use him, even though he would have the most talent (along with Green) of anyone on the bench.
  7. Except Gamel is (or should be) considered a big piece of the future. I think not bringing him up will do more harm than good. Like someone said, the guy's switched positions and spent years at AAA when he probably would've already been in the bigs with just about any other team. Even if you don't want to reward all the players with good years, I think Gamel is the most important, especially if you're planning on him being a part of the future. My take on it is he is no longer considered part of the future, at least not as a member of the team. If I were Gamel, I would request a trade. And then I would do everything I could to stick it to Melvin & Co. As much credit as I give Melvin for getting us where we are now, I really think he's dropped the ball on Gamel. After they handed McGehee the starting 3B job in 09, they should've had Gamel split time between 1B, 3B, and the OF. Then he would've been more valuable to this team and could've got at least a couple of starts a week, as well as being the #1 PH. And if they knew he was never in their future plans, he should've been traded for someone who would be. At 26 with no long-term major league experience, his trade value is a lot lower than it would've been at 24/25.
  8. I saw that too. He said he would never be wearing those clothes again so he didn't see a reason to buy anything expensive.
  9. I'm not comparing Marcum to Suppan I just stated that Marcum has a Suppan like fastball. Nothing comparing the two about their results or anything of that matter. You are reading way to much into what I put. Marcum is also not going to get a 3 or 4 year deal he will get a 5 or 6 year deal. No way should the Brewers do 4 years let alone 5 or 6 years with Marcum. Marcum's contract will come back and haunt the Brewers if they do sign him long term. First, you can't say with any certainty what contract he will get. It's all speculation. He could get a 3 year deal, he could get a 6 year deal. No one knows now. Second, I would think guys like Marcum tend to age better. He's never had a plus-fastball so he's always had to rely on location, changing speeds, pitch selection, etc. In other words, he already knows how to "pitch." A guy who just tries to blow his fastball by people will have more trouble as he ages because he will eventually lose speed and that fastball will become very hittable. I just think Suppan is so hated now that anytime we have a guy who doesn't throw 90+, they will be compared to him. Obviously Marcum is no Maddux but speed isn't everything.
  10. I'm sure that's what Roenicke (and maybe Melvin) are thinking. But I don't think it really matters. I highly doubt Gamel would come up and start complaining and become a cancer. He would probably love the chance to just be part of this playoff clinching stretch. And it's not like he's some kid or something. He's only a year younger than Fielder and older than Lucroy/Yo.
  11. This doesnt fully make sense to me. It is part Mat Gamel's fault that he is not in the bigs. If he could play a passable 3b he would be a big leaguer. Since he couldn't do that he is blocked by our 3 best bats or at least 3 of our 4 best bats. He could maybe move to corner OF and he could play 1B but there is no need right now. He could have been on the bench but I dont think he really got screwed. He should have been promoted but outside of Macha never playing him Mat has bad circumstances and a bad arm to blame more than the Brewers management. Really? Yuni can't play SS but he's been in the bigs for years. Gamel got hurt (you might argue it was his fault for not staying in shape) in spring training and when he came back, Macha never played him. Maybe screwed is a little harsh but he really could've been on the team for the last 3 years, in at least some capacity. But the organization chose to give him consistent playing time since he was blocked. If anything, it's really nobody's fault since guys were blocking him wherever he could conceivably play. But for you to act like it's his own fault (even partly) because he couldn't stick at 3rd and was blocked at 3 other positions is just asinine. By the time Gamel got healthy in 09, McGehee had a hold of the starting job. So even if he was good enough at 3rd, Macha probably wouldn't have played him since McGehee was there.
  12. Since the minor league season, it shouldn't matter. He can come up and sit on the bench. He should become the immediate power PH option. It would be stupid for the Brewers to not bring him up because there is no reason not to.
  13. It's most likely because there's nowhere for him to play up here (besides the occasional PH). While I would've liked him to be eligible for the playoffs, giving him another week of consistent PT is better than having had him sit on the bench up here for a week. I still think he will out least be given the opportunity to win the 1B job next year, if it isn't already his to lose.
  14. Your presumption of my tone and my frame of mind are just that - presumptions - and on both counts you're incorrect. However, especially given your accusation, I find it interesting that the words you've chosen can easily be taken in the exact same way. I don't have time to dig through close to two months' worth of JSOnline articles, blogs, & chats to find the quotes, but I can safely say I read statements by TH in at least two places that made it pretty clear that the two PTBNL going to the Mets would not be "players of consequence" (my paraphrase). For as thoroughly well-read & aware that so many posters are on this site, I found it odd (a combination of both "humorous" and "frustrating") to keep seeing posts about folks' fears that Green, McClendon, etc. were the types of players going to the Mets when it seemed pretty clear that the Mets were going to get minor league "roster fillers" -- which Rosario & Herrera pretty much are, and which Green, McClendon, etc. are not. From my understanding, all Haudricourt ever said was they wouldn't be top prospects. Which is why most here didn't believe Green would be included. However, McClendon was a pretty good guess since the Mets GM said it was someone who has contributed and had some success at the major league level. I wouldn't lump Green and McClendon into the same group. Sure McClendon could be useful but he is basically just another arm. It's not that far-fetched to think he might've been included.

  17. My guess: McGehee moves to 1B. That would be awful. McGehee does not have the offense to justify playing 1st. I'd start Gamel/Green at 1st and 3rd and use McGehee occasionally at each spot.
  18. They better be thinking about at least platooning Green with McGehee next year.
  19. Also, Marcum pitcher very well through 5. Jinx.
  20. I would be fine with Counsell/Wilson until Weeks is back. Actually, I'd rather put Green at 2nd and Hairston at SS. That defense can't be any worse than Yuni/Hairston and the offense would be a lot better.
  21. I'm so sick of Yuni. First it took him forever to get to that ball and then a horrible throw. He better not be back next year, anyone should be better than him.
