  1. He went 1-4 with a double in his 2nd start. Then 0-3 against a former CY Young winner Carpenter, 1-3 against another CY Young winner Halladay, and 0-3 against Worley, a guy who a lot of people have had trouble with this year. And if you watch his ABs, most of his outs are line drives as well. So that rationalization that "Green hasn't been that great in his (4) starts" is just asinine and the kind of thinking that sadly, Roenicke is probably using. There is no defense for it. Green is clearly a better option than McGehee at this point.
  2. If people want to rag on him for his so-called "attitude problems," fine. But can we stop saying that he hasn't proved himself in the majors. He hasn't gotten the chance. He got 44 total PAs (mostly PH) the past two years. In 09, his OPS was .760 as a 23-year-old in 148 PAs. So actually, if you want to use his small opportunities, I would say his 09 stats show that he can hit in the majors. The attitude stuff I can kind of understand. But to say that he hasn't proved himself because of a .684 career OPS in 194 PAs over basically 3 years is like saying Brett Lawrie is already a HOFer because of his 1.018 OPS in 146 PAs.

  4. And again, the top of the lineup is having a bad game. Even a bad week. The bottom of the lineup is having a bad year.
  5. As did I. So another bad call from the ump. 2 bad calls, a bad strike zone, and the interference call. So even if you agree with the interference call, he's blown 2 others.
  6. First, everybody goes in slumps. The problem is the bottom of the lineup is in a year-long slump. They have to be able to pick up the top of the order. I don't think just picking the Phillies series and saying Yuni got 4 RBIs should get him off the hook for all his other suckiness. The best available players should be playing, period. I don't care if it's a marginal upgrade (which I don't think it is) or if it's an astronomical upgrade. Any upgrade should be in. Second, I don't care about RBIs with Yuni vs. Hairston. I care about OBP. RBIs are more a reflection of the team/opportunities whereas OBP is more a reflection of the player's actual skill.
  7. I don't think he was off the line. He just wasn't in that nice little painted box they have down the line. To me, that's like the 3rd base coaching box. It's there but nobody ever really uses it and it's almost never enforced.A coach in the 3rd base box doesn't cause a runner to be safe. How often do you see a ball hitting a player going to first? It's very rare, and when it does happen, I'd be shocked if the statistical rate is 'almost never' on balls that hit runners who are out of the baseline. I took a picture of it, and I'll upload it, but he was clearly out. And justifying the umpire is awful because he didn't make a bad call is really backwards. I'd rather have umpires try to call a fair game than doing 'make-up' calls to even things up. Technically it would be a no-call, not a bad call.
  8. Green hitting with runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out instead of McGehee wouldn't be a big change? Obviously you can't just predict a HR or even a hit but I think he's shown that he's a definite upgrade over McGehee at this point. Not to mention he probably wouldn't have made that error that McGehee did, leading to an increased pitch count for Greinke.
  9. How many times do you see that called unless the runner is way into the grass? He was only marginally out of the baseline, that goes without being called more times than not. And with 2 outs and Braun coming up that's a huge call. We really not playing well in any facet of the game right now. Even if we win this game (which I'm doubting), we certainly have done our best to lose or make it as hard as possible. How many times does the ball actually hit the runner when they are inside the line like that? I bet it's called just about every time that happens. If it misses him and the 1B makes the play, obviously theres no call, and if it gets past the 1B maybe it doesn't get called. But if it hits the runner? The ump has to make that call. It doesn't forgive a crummy strike zone and weeks being safe, but it was a good and correct call. That's why I said he's been awful, even if it was correct.
  10. I thought it was a reasonable call. He definitely was far enough off the line that it prevented the catcher from making the throw. I wonder if Roenicke's eternally optimistic approach has something to do with the poor fundamentals on this team. I don't think he was off the line. He just wasn't in that nice little painted box they have down the line. To me, that's like the 3rd base coaching box. It's there but nobody ever really uses it and it's almost never enforced.
  11. As I mentioned earlier, Green should be starting at 3B and then move to 2B when Weeks comes out. So that would leave our best 6 hitters 1-6. Then Lucroy should hit 7 and Hairston 8. Boom, solid lineup.
  12. How does Morgan clearly running outside the baseline make an umpire awful for making a correct call? And I'm not saying that Morgan did the wrong thing. If he runs in the baseline, chances are, it doesn't hit him and he's out. If he runs outside, the first baseman could lose sight of it and the umpire could let it go.Because he missed a call at home and his strike zone has been bad. Add on top of that a call that is almost never made and I think he's been terrible.
  13. When is that ever called? This ump has been awful tonight (even if technically that's a correct call).
  14. Except Green could start at 3B and move to 2B when Weeks comes out.
  15. The fact that he was in the game at all (over Green) is a sign that Roenicke either A) is stubborn and doesn't want to admit he was wrong by not benching McGehee earlier, B) is stubborn and doesn't like rookies, or C) is crazy and actually thinks McGehee is a better option than Green at this point.
  16. Doesn't mean it's always right. I just don't like playing for one run in the early innings. If Roenicke didn't bunt so much I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it.
  17. It wasn't hindsight. People on here have been discussing Roenicke's love of the bunt all year. And even if the bunt was laid down, it would still be an out given up.
  18. Enough of this automatic bunting crap. The pitchers on this team can hit. It's the 3rd inning. Let them swing away.
