  1. A guy who's been the everyday player "should" sit because there is a better option. Again, he doesn't need to sit every game. All this clubhouse crap is stupid. I don't care if it's true or not (I personally think it's overblown), the point is this team is supposedly all in and the best talent should be playing. I highly doubt giving a guy like Green one start a week or sitting a terrible player like Yuni once a week will result in this horrible backlash like people are talking about. If the players are that emotional (and I don't think they are) that they would completely fall apart because one of their friends got benched once a week, they need to seek some help. Also, the management business analogy doesn't apply here. This is a game. If there's a better player (regardless of how much experience he has), he should see some PT.
  2. I know it isnt much but he did start 4 of 5 games this year and he went 3 for 17 during that stretch. Gamel's issue is where do you play him in the field. Over a 13 game span he got 26 at bats but struck out more times than he got a hit. He is not an everyday guy until Fielder leaves because Braun and Hart are better in the OF and Gamel is a terrible fielder If you called up Gamel where would you play? Gamel probably wouldn't start many games but he should be the first PH (at least power-wise) off the bench. He might not have gotten a lot of hits this year but I remember his first couple games he hit some really hard balls, just right at people (I know I sound like Roenicke defending Yuni but it's true). That being said, I think Gamel is one of those guys who needs to be getting regular ABs to stay sharp. But I would still use him as a power PH option this year.
  3. After the minor league season is over in a few days. They said they are going to stagger the call-ups.
  4. The only other option is if there is an injury, then you can replace that injured person with someone else (I believe that someone else has to have been on the 40 man roster as of Aug 31, but I'm not sure of that). This is what me and Rawbecht were both trying to say, because NDOG stated that he was only brought in as injury insurance, and that doesn't make any sense.Yep. I also think there should be a sticky or something so I don't have to post this multiple times in every thread. In the case of an injury, the replacement player doesn't have to have been on the 40 man as of 8/31. They just had to be in the organization. They would, however, have to be added to the 40 man before being used as a replacement.
  5. All of this. Like I've said, most teams sit most of their starters at least once a week. And many of these players are better than Yuni and McGehee. Why should the Brewers be any different? Green should be getting at least one start a week now and Yuni should sit once a week (doesn't really matter to me who starts in his place).
  6. Being brought up as insurance in case someone got hurt doesn't make any sense. If someone got hurt in September, they could be replaced by anyone that was in the organization as of 8/31. So Green didn't need to be on the team if they were just going to use him as insurance. Obviously Melvin thought it was important to have him be eligible for the playoffs (or he would've just been called up yesterday with the other guys).
  7. For the last time, one start a week or even a PH appearance is not too much to ask! Couldn't you make the same argument that not playing the guys on the bench would upset them, which they then could upset the clubhouse?
  8. How is giving the young guys a couple of ABs going to lose the clubhouse? People keep saying this like its a fact that letting Green get some PT is going to result in a riot from the players or something. I don't get it. It's because people feel McGehee's psyche is fragile and even spot starts for Green would "screw" with his mind and he would pout. I think RR is fearful of this ruining the morale of the team. Didn't Corey Hart recently stick up for McGehee in the JS saying something like people are calling for Green to come up from AAA but "AAA is much different from big league pitching." This seems like a particularly brotherly clubhouse. If that truly was the case, I'd cut him. If he could't handle someone taking a start from him once a week when he's not very good to begin with, I wouldn't want anything to do with him. But I don't think that's the case. I think Roenicke is just a grumpy old man who doesn't like rookies (kind of like Macha). That's only half-blue because he doesn't actually seem grumpy.
  9. We can and should. He most likely wouldn't accept to just set-up and Boras won't get paid until he signs a new contract.
  10. It's obvious he's going to stick with his veterans. The only way he plays the likes of Green are for Melvin to get rid of McGehee/Kotsay/Counsell this off-season. He will always defer to the guys that got him to this point so he doesn't lose the clubhouse. How is giving the young guys a couple of ABs going to lose the clubhouse? People keep saying this like its a fact that letting Green get some PT is going to result in a riot from the players or something. I don't get it.
  11. I get what you're sayin but I don't think most of us thought there was any chance of him being included. Although Melvin didn't help by waiting until a couple days ago to call him up.
  12. It all depends on how far you go back. It was actually 4 of 8 if you go back that far but they took 3 of 4 from the Pirates before getting here. Add in the two games before today and it would've been 5 of 6.
  13. Excellent response. I definitely expected a better performance from Yo though. Even a "quality start" of 6-ish IP, 3ER would have been acceptable to me today given the opponent. To give up 8 and have them all be ER...well let's just say he didn't pitch well today.I expected better too. I also expected at least 1 if not 2 wins this series. I think they definitely gave away Tuesday's games and yesterday they played bad defense (from what I've heard, I didn't actually get a chance to watch the game). Then they gave up another GS to the pitcher. Hopefully they can go into Houston and sweep or at least take the series. And maybe we'll get a chance to see a Taylor Green start.
  14. Schroeder just said it's not as if they're giving away games. Did he watch Tuesday's game?
  15. He's not a big game pitcher. Not sure I understand the sarcasm. If today isn't the definition of a big game, where the team behind us in the division is about to sweep us at home, I'm not sure what is. My exact quote when I raised the question earlier was: "Anyone else worried that Yo might not be a Big Game pitcher? Any evidence to the contrary that isn't coming immediately to mind?" Like I said, off the top of my head I don't recall him pitching in a big game where he has gone out and been a stopper. Now maybe it is because we haven't been competitive for most of Gallardo's career and he was hurt a majority of 2008 but I think it is a reasonable question when one of our "aces" gets outpitched by a rookie in a series such as this. Sure today's a big game but every game matters. This is just one game in the season. It's not like this is a one-game playoff. Yo has proved he's a good pitcher in his career. He just didn't have it today (not to mention the Cardinals have been playing pretty good lately). And I'm sure the number of "big games" Yo has pitched in in his career is too small a sample size to draw any meaningful conclusions.
  16. I know you always have to make your pitches and what not but the defense has been atrocious this series. I would be more worried about that than pitching.
  17. Come on people, this is one series. I think Yo's pitched pretty well in his career so far. This is just one of those days.
  18. Ok that's just ridiculous. Just it's been a horrible series but they just went what, 27-5?
  19. Ok Schroeder's an idiot. You don't want to sit Yuni because he got 2 hits yesterday? How bout cuz he hasn't had a whole day off in 2 1/2 months and he's just awful.
